Used the seasol wetter and I noticed that whenever I soak the roots prior to planting/repotting, portion of leaves and stems instantly colored, but of course not for so long because I don't water right after planting. It only proves that plant absorbs the nutrients from seaweed. Thanks 4 sharing. Ur plants are so lovely and inspiring to look at💐🌺🌷🌹🌼

what a great video liz!!! OMG THE COLOR ON THE RUBINS IS MAGNIFICENT!!!!!! i was just going through this last night, one of my plants seemed to be rotting but the soil is bone dry!! they are indoors but we have had lots of rain so humidity has been real high. its crazy how that effects them!!!! thank you for this video.
Those Romeos are just GORGEOUS, like jewels. I got some plants that were in really dry/bad condition from the Walmart, put ice chips on the soil on the way home, then got home and soaked them in a tub. I never used to water plants from the bottom like that, till I saw you do it. They perked up so well, it was great. You would never know they were dying before. They told me they get watered, but I could tell the water was just running over the outside of the soil ball, and over the leaves, and not at all getting to the roots. I tried explaining this to them. Doubt anything will change. Too bad they cannot find a way to water from the bottom, the plants would be so much nicer. The only good thing about getting a neglected plant, was due to dropping leaves, flowers like the crested Ghosty I found for $3 on clearance, also contained 4 babies. I also like the challenge of bringing them back to health. I also am trying a new leaf propagation technique. The person who showed how to do it, was comparing the growth of this method, compared to the usual method, and it was amazing. Basically, you put a small pool of water in the center of a plate or small curved, shallow dish. Then place the leaves around the edges, like the petals of a sunflower, so that the seed end is just barely touching the edge of the very shallow puddle of water in the middle of your dish, like the edge of the leaf just touching it, but not immersed in the water. The roots will then reach out for that water and grow much more, giving you bigger, faster growing babies, better propagation. I am hoping this works, because I notice when I put my babies in soil, they just seem to stall in growth. Giving them a lot of root growth first, before putting them in soil, may be just the thing. Like you - I like to experiment.
It’s so satisfying watching you soak them and seeing the bubbles. I gave 3/4 of my collection a good soak in seasol soil wetter yesterday and did this technique. The other dry ones are going to get put out in the rain tomorrow.
Been soaking a lot of my pots today too. Found an overlooked romeo with a light pot and one translucent leaf. It's still soaking till maybe the whole day tomorrow. 40% rain. Beware the dreaded wet leaves syndrome. If it doesn't rain enough, I will be running around in the rain with an umbrella watering my plants with a hose. Lets keep everything cross.
You are a pro madam i learn so much from you.
More succulents die from overwatering than under watering.. Try mo yung Tropical soil mix ko. Very forgiving sya especially pag mahilig magtubig at may high humidity area. Also mag start ka sa confidence boosting succulents kagaya ng mga Ghost plant at Sedum para ma get mo yung feel ng succulent. Eventually you'll gain confidence and can feel what your plants are feeling. Then progress to the more expensive diva ones.
If the leaves are soft and the soil is dry, you can soak it in seaweed solution to rehydrate it. But if it's newly planted or repotted and the soil is still moist, it's best to leave it to let it adjust to it's new environment to give it time to develop roots.
Yes, I had succulents die from me not watering it, I would forget about them. I have since learned, plus I'm home more and have time to care for them ;)
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Thank you maam.i learned from your other video. Might be grass wetter. I learn so much from your videos. Thank you very much maam Liz .
Liz my first time commenting. Those romeos are hard to grow. I have learned so much from you and always learning more. Succulents that hate me: lovely rose and Sentosa. Would love videos on those. Also, do you water all succulents in this way or are there exceptions?
There's different ways I water my potted succulents but this I find is the most efficient and most water saving way. Thanks for watching and commenting Louise and please don't be a stranger. Cheers
I’ve been watering like this now and they do love it! I’ve lost a few black princes to root rot (and I’m sure I had my first mealy bug on one of them) and a champagne. Well I think it was a champagne. Anyway all good. I watch your blogs religiously and I can’t believe how addicted I am! The plants that love that watering in my experience are Topsy Turvey and dark Vader oh and the bumpy leaf ones.
Thank you, Liz! Learning two important points today! Love the red and pink Romeo! Please consider me when you are selling these propagated ones next time. 🥰🌷
I’ve used your succulent soil mix for my plant’s which are in terra cotta pots and reading through the comments has calmed me a bit knowing (hopefully) they won’t rot I let them soak rain water today but I’ll keep an eye out 🥺😂😑👍🏽
I usually soak them till the softness is gone. The longest I've soaked a succulent was two weeks. That's an Echeveria Topsy Turvy that was all thin and limpy.
Can someone answer a question for me so my succulents are under a plant light but some of them are growing away from the light and I don’t know what to do
If the light hitting them is not strong enough, they will etiolate away from the main light to search for better light. Try putting them in the center of the light and if they still do the same, you're using the wrong grow light. Succulents need a full spectrum light.
Dissolve 2 tablespoons of powdered agar agar in 2 cups of hot water to make a runny paste. Mix 250 ml of this paste into 5 liters of water. Use this to soak hydrophobic soil. You can also add liquid seaweed to the mix to water your succulents.
I am little confused Iiz, you are pouring water on echeveria leaves, while many say not to water succulents in this fashion. They claim, if water is poured on leaves it will be attacked by fungus. Will you like to clear ..
Watering the plants(succulents) doesn't cause fungus to happen. Fungi is an ORGANISM that needs a warm and moist environment to grow. They have to be present in contaminated soil or infected plants and spread via wind, animals, human movements, tools, etc. When the right condition exist, that's when they start to grow. Since the beginning of time, succulents have always been watered from above by rain and on many occasions by floods. Don't always believe people who say that you should only side water succulents because that is not the case.
I do agree with you, liz, ...my view is, in wilds, every plant gets water by rain from leaves to roots. To keep plants neat and clean of dust should we not mist it during watering and try to dry by soft blower without any harm to plants...in your tone,.. babies..
My Romeo died exactly the same as yours, die very fast! that is my first one so I don’t have experience ☹️☹️but I’m sure I will take care the next one very good
How come are you watering so little and your plants stay relatively plum, if I water less than once a month my plants's bottom leaves just shrivel and die. When watering I always soak them.
Succulent with thin leaves will require more frequent watering. The agavoides species like Romeo, Ebony, lipstick to name a few requires much less watering. Soil mix that can hold water without being wet or soggy also helps lessen watering frequency.
It all depends on your soil mix and pots. I have videos of my succulents being rained on for a week and none of the ones grown in terracotta pots with my master soil mix rotted. Can all succulents get wet like how you're watering yours? Since I started this hobby almost everyone tells me never get them wet. If I can't find soil wetter (we have seasol but not this soil wetter) is there any alternatives?
Any seaweed solution will do or even liquid compost. Lawn wetter is also a good alternative. I only use soil wetter for potted plants that haven't watered for a long time (because I go away for months) or for reviving wrinkled dried up succulents. I have a video uploaded a couple of days ago where I watered my outdoor succulents after if just rained. Worth the watch. Cheers
Hi Liz, I love this video. 😀🥰 Can't believe you didn't water your romeo for so long and how you watering it...😳 Can you also do a propagation video on the romeo pls? I had trouble doing a head chop on any agavoides cos leaves are too tight together and the leaves all fall off when I tried with fishing line. Do they propagate well with leaves?
I've only had one leaf grown Romeo that took forever. Just when I'm about to repot it....it rotted. Lucky it's double headed and was able to save one. Will be doing Ebony head chop but Christmas and all not sure when I can squeeze that in so just keep an eye for that.

When they dry up. That would have to depend on our summer temperature but most likely between February or March.
