      Over the course of many, many decades I have “collected” nearly every art and craft hobby out there.
      Luckily, advancements in materials have made new or revived/improved skills relevant again.
      I’m going to teach my grandchildren every media they will sit still for😂

    I am now sixty. I have loved block printed fabric, cards, framed prints since I was a teenager.
    Finally going to dive into this. I like how it involves design, drawing, carving, printing and that I can reprint a design over and over .

    In woodcarving the dominant hand is the guiding hand and non dominant pushes too. You have discovered on your own the secrets that you would have learned in an class or apprenticeship.
    Well done you!

    I had made one linocut using the soft stuff years ago but did not do any others because I struggled so much with it. I used an ancient mustard yellow speedball set I bought at a thrift store. After watching your video, I tried again with the hard type of linoleum you recommend and it was great. Although I already had the speedball set, your Amazon list made buying a few other supplies easy. Thanks for all the help and advice.

    I remember making linocut stamps in art class in school. It was fun even though I did nick my little kid fingers a few times…The kits seem pretty affordable! I had no idea. Thank you

    I remember doing a Lino cut in my 7th grade art class (my teacher was pretty cool lmao) and really loving it despite the fact that the linoleum being pretty low quality and hard for my little child hands to carve. I’d really like to try again so this video is super useful!! ❤❤❤

    Woodcarvers use a blue tape made to protect from cuts. Super cheep and can be wrapped on whichever finger/knuckle you’d be likely to gouge. It leaves your hands freer than a cut proof glove, which is another option - especially for young carvers.

    Thank you, thank you for this wonderful vlog. I have been wondering what my next challenge should be. And you've helped me find it. I'm aging myself but the last time I made any kind of print was a wood block print over 40 years ago in high school. I'm sure I did do linoleum also but I just can't remember. I have a question though. Do you clean off your block in between prints, or at the end of a print making session with anything?
    Again thank you for this. You've gained a new subscriber today. 🥰

    Thank you for the interesting content. I listen to your story all the way. Want to share something from my unexpected discoveries. I enjoy using a cake decorating wheel when cutting and just print my designs on a printer and transferring them with a hot transfer iron. Probably, it's more conplicated, but really helps on detailing. (Just sharing).

    Hi so I guess you'd usually plan to either roll out a tiny amount of ink or plan to make several prints the same, to use it up.
    It's good to see you doing curves, as I hope to use moose as my first time! I'm Canadian but watching your video from England!! What's your top tip? My small baren arrived today.. I treated myself - but a small kit is coming next week. Any suggestions for colours? I am hoping to avoid the typical bold standards... I like browns, moss green, mustard/deep yellow, not bright etc.. thanks for the video. I am Casey :)

    Lol 😂 when you rolled out the shelf liner it resembled a smiley face. Nice trick. How did you do that?

  • @lisathaviu1154
    @lisathaviu1154 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was trained to do woodcuts and linoleum seemed to not accept fine enough carving. I found that if I froze my Lino blocks, I could carve really fine lines.

    • @illukace
      @illukace  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've been able to get some great detail in lino, but wood is superior for fine details for sure. My designs and my art style is more graphic, so it works well for me -- but not for all! :)

    Have you ever considered wearing gloves to protect your hands? Not sure what gloves would work best but there are a ton of protective glove options. Maybe "crafting gloves" would be a good glove. They support and protect you hands. So if your hand muscles get sore they would help your hands go longer before they are too tired plus more protection from skin gauges.All while being thin enough to not be cumbersome.

    The speedball value kit is £40 here in the uk and that really isnt that great value but if you want to get started its a good solution. One tool with three tips and not the 5 or 6 you usually get, 1 block that youll likely end up ruining if youre a beginner and a small tube of ink. The brayer is good though. Overall... im not buying the VALUE bit. The Deluex kit is a ridiculous £85 here in the UK.
