I just bought a set of Flexcut tools, and they are really fantastic. I am left-handed, which I think is why I had so much trouble with the Speedball interchangeable tools. The pressure of my thumb against the tool with left-handed cuts would unscrew them, and the blade would fly out after a few cuts. I also like that having a set of tools mean you can switch tools very quickly without having to screw them in each time.
Oh I had never considered that the speedball tool would unscrew itself as you use it left handed!! I do love that I can change the size of the blade very quickly with a set like the flexcut tools...and i feel like they will last me much longer!
wow i was watching this to get a good idea of sizes for my own linocuts and realized right at the end of the video that i have bought from you before on etsy! i gave your selkies print to a friend as a housewarming gift (she loved it). hi from texas!!
That's funny. If I ever own a chainsaw company I will totally include Band-Aids. Great video. Looking into this as an alternative to screen printing. Keep up the good work!
Hi, really good video on how you work. Can you please put a link or write the name of the marker u uses to cover areas so that u can see what u are carving?
Thank you so much for this very detailed video..i want to start lino printing and i wanted to purchase these blades but worried a bit since they are quite spendy. I will be getting these now 😊
This gave me an idea. My wrists have taken a beating from sports, a small lazy Susan would allow one to turn the lino easier. Maybe? Cool video! Apreaciate the insight!!
The ink out of the jar is very pigmented and thick! The extender can be mixed in at a 1:1 ratio to thin the ink. It not only doubles the amount of ink you have to work with, but the ink goes on thinner and dries faster since it isn't being applied to the carving as a thick, super tacky layer. Printmakers will play around with the amount of extender they put in their inks, as it can also be used to make inks less opaque, which can be useful and interesting when you start to do multi-layer or reduction carvings.
As someone who used to work for this company, I am asking all print makers and woodcarvers to boycott Flexcut. I’m a master printmaker who is employed by them and they are the worst company I’ve ever worked for and they have an abusive workplace culture that treats employees like shit. I’ll never use one of their tools ever again.
I am also interested in knowing why. I have yet to find a different brand. We use these in my classes and I have the ones where you switch the blades in the handles. They are a pain since the hole in the handle can get jammed and pliers are required to insert and remove the blades. Which then become a safety hazard from yanking sharp blades.
I'm not going to boycott something on your word alone, especially since you offered no proof. I can also find NO examples of such behavior about this company ANYWHERE. Still plan on buying them, sorry.

Thank you so much for your video
So glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
From where we can purchase those lino tools..please provide the link
I purchased mine in-person at Lee Valley Tools! But you can buy them directly from FlexCut's website!
What brand is the linoleum? Do you have a link?
Hi! It is by Esdee. You can get it from Amazon, Blick and Curry's!
Who was the backing music by in the first part of the video?
It was music I chose from the TH-cam music library! The song title and artist is somewhere deep in my hard-drive lol

How long did this take to create?
I worked on it for a couple of hours each day for around 1 week!
Thanks. i'm using a knock off brand that's just awful. Seriously considering these,
I really love these carving tools. I have two of their sets now!!

Oh no! I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. What happened? And what tools would you recommend as an equal replacement?
