- Hawkeye is based on the true story of Jeremy Renner, a man who was trapped on the island of Jumanji and after several seasons of flashbacks, he learned to become a master archer. Cow dung, human fecal matter and pieces of chicken, any object could be turned into a weapon and flung into anyone chasing him. Therefore, after returning to New York, Jeremy decided to adapt his experiances into a film called "Who let the Dogs out?". After the film became a commercial flop, Jeremy decided to become a mask vigilante in order to take his frustration on dudes with purple heads.

One thing that gets overlooked about Hawkeye in the MCU is his humour. I would argue he has some of the best comedic scenes at of all characters. Here are some:

Hawkeye has super aim. Anything can be made lame. Super strength? Oh, so she can lift more than others? Wwwwoooooowww.
It's all how they are utilized. Natasha has no powers at all but she is revered as cool. Jeremy Renner needed more screen time. Age of Ultron tried to do all it could in one movie. The "man amongst gods and monsters" perspective could have been fantastic.
Unfortunatly, the Avengers only got 4.5 movies. (I count Civil War as half, since it doesn't have all of them). Considering the ensemble of characters (and the popularity of Cap and Tony), Clint just doesn't have enough time to be in the spotlight too much, but I think that his role on the team is still vital and important.
In Age of Ultron , during the ship scene .Wanda took down all the Avengers - Cap ,Thor ,Widow .But when it came to Hawkeye becuz if his quick movement he instantly removed a electric arrow and zapped Wanda brain and with another Arrow with one shot he created a wave and took the remaining men on the ship .By far that is most underrated scene of Hawkeye as well as his arrows in movies .Yes in movies he just got explosive arrows compare to comics where he uses much mire than that

These lines sums up the entire Avengers. They are a mess, a group of damaged people, but they are driven, they put in everything they have to save the world , to do what they believe is right, they are gods but they couldn't be any more human, they are fragile but they are the best line of defense we have
And, even though I don't want to be that guy, this is ultimately why I find the MCU infinitely more interesting than the DC film universe. Marvel has always been about god like figures that are ultimately human and DC being the inverse of that, human characters who are more like gods which gives the discussion a real "two sides of the same coin" sort of feel. It's just a shame that DC and Warner Brothers haven't been able to fully hit the nail on the head of their overall premise for the DC film universe. Beyond that though, Marvel takes it's time with its characters instead of trying to force stuff to happen before its time, like DC with the Justice League film. However, seeing films like Wonder Woman and Aquaman do as well as they did, I'm hopeful for what we might get out of DC in the future.
Seeing broken, damaged people use incredible powers and skills for the good of others is a cornerstone of the superhero genre. It doesn't have to be that way of course, but I think, even if only academically, this is what the genre will be remembered for once it comes and goes. I don't think of Marvel as the height of cinema, far from it, but it's certainly the height of its genre and that's saying something.
@@Valiant_Requiem yeah the DCEU does nothing to help DC's cause even though DC could have easily been similar to Marvel in that "gods with human feelings" or some shit like that, but i guess most DCEU's filmmakers don't understand the source material
@@Valiant_Requiem so not to be that other guy, but the premise of normal people being driven to extreme ends for one goal that they are willing to and basically have risked everything for that goals pretty cool. And their moral compass is always an Alfred or John Diggle or Steve Rodgersand those exchanges are heart wrenching or up lifting.
Ps. Have you seen shows like arrow, they nail the moral consequences of a small man army fighting corruption what it can do to you and those around you and how someone can come back from unspeakable evil and trauma.
Love how Tony mentioned in Age of Ultron "maybe I'll take a page out of Barton's book" when it came to settling down on a homestead somewhere and starting a family. Flash forward to Endgame and Tony has accomplished just that. After seeing the life he could potentially have through Clint's. And come that same time in Endgame Clint loses that life he worked so hard to protect. Love the pathos of that character. Seeing his relationship evolve with Kate will be fun as well.
And Iron Man dies to save the universe, including the life Hawkeye wanted back and the life Tony wanted, but both families still lose
Pepper and Morgan lose Tony and Hawkeye’s family loses Black Widow
Finally someone who understands why Hawkeye is arguably one of the most important Avengers: He is human. He is the personification of what the Avengers are fighting for. It’s why I loved the second Avengers movie despite my dislike of the Widow/Banner plot line.
Finally some Hawkeye love. If he was there in Infinity War they would've won.... just saying....

Side note: First Avenger Loki mind controlled Hawkeye for half the film and Loki was winning! Until Black Widow got him back. And Hawkeye took down the carrier.

Great analysis. The problem for me with movie Hawkeye (even though he's well done in his limited bubble) is that they basically took nearly everything about his comic book character that made him unique and easily latched onto by fans and dispersed it among the other Avengers. Comic book Hawkeye originally was the anti-establishment snark machine who constantly questioned Cap's decisions, but in the movies, we've got Tony for that.
It's the reason why the prison scene in Civil War is the scene that always felt the most "vintage" Hawkeye to me out of any scene he's ever gotten in these movies. It's because Clint is the voice of dissent against authority, whereas in virtually every other movie he's strictly on the side of authority. Even as Ronin, he's not rebelling against anything... he's just exerting authority in a harsher and more personal way.
Hopefully, after his experience in endgame, we can get more of this Hawkeye.
I think one of the reasons Tony ended up having to be at odds with cap is the contentious relationship he had with his father and how he seemed to love steve more than his own son
As Ronin, I believe he is rebelling against something (the injustice of life)
When Clint started to rant on the Raft, i was sitting in the cinema with a fistpump because i finally got a small glimpse of comic Clint.
That's not so much dispersing his identity to different characters so much as giving some of his traits to tony.
He's a sweet dude and the grounded one. Not dealing with trauma...much. you know, until thanos.
I like the context of Clint inviting the Avengers to his home. He's a trained spy/assassin apart of a larger spy community and the only ones who knew about his family were Nat and Fury. In a field where info is life and death, he opened up to the Avengers. Also, Nat didn't reveal this info either, letting him make the decision for himself. Age of Ultron is one of my faves. Another thing, when we see Klaue and the lights go out in an run down boat, it isn't till Black Panther that we see we they freaked out.

Always chose him in the old side scrolling arcade game. Was more of an xman fan than avengers but always dug him as well.
He might have been mine, had I not discovered Green Arrow of DC first. Of course there's no rule against liking them both, but the redundancy has kept me from reading his comics.
In the end, Hawkeye is a simple character in the middle of complex ones, giving them a new perspective. I like this.
The fact that he’s seen as less cool then Natasha is insane, he’s been shown to be just nearly less skilled of a fighter, but, he makes up for that by having the worlds best aim, like god damn how is that not seen as cool as it really is, that’s hella useful.

not many ppl realise clint isn't only skilled with the bow and arrow.. he is able to aim anything with anything.. an example is how well he threw cap's shield in AOU despite never using it at all
the analysis is amazing but I have a personal problem with MCU Hawkeye and the way they did him dirty. Comic Hawkeye has way more character and if we take the idea that he provides a stage and identity, Comic Hawkeye esp from the "My Life as a Weapon" series would have been able to set a way more precise stage with more wit and a certain lightheartedness
Yeah, that's a good point, but if they went with 616 Hawkeye then the whole family man identity that serves as a stage for others wouldn't be present, so it's a really weird trade off. Therefore, I've always looked at MCU Clint as an adaptation of Hawkeye from the Ultimates, but hey that's how I interpreted it anyways! :)
I was 10ish when Avengers 1 first came out. I never understood why, but Hawkeye was always my favorite avenger and I was obsessed with him. Everyone else thought it was really silly and stupid to have the 'average' guy as my favorite, but I think it was exactly that. He was the most 'average' guy, and thus, was the most relatable to younger me.
You just proved that by him being the stage for all the other characters, the frame of reference for a human perspective, that he is one of the most important members of the group. He's a fascinating character who is taking the most risk out of all of them...and is the one who went through the most torture, but came out the most unscathed.
Hawkeye's Ultron speech is one of my favourite MCU bits just... Ever. My 2nd of his after the Endgame opening for obviously different reasons.
I wonder how you'd interpret the way Ant-Man was written into the wider extended narrative, and especially how the team was able to have it make sense that his role expanded in the way it did
I’m crying a little. Hawkeye is my favorite MCU character and he became so the instant he showed up in Thor. Those few lines of his cemented him as my viewpoint into the MCU-verse, and The Avengers, with that combination of his badassery and the exposure of his vulnerabilities, wow. I see him less as a foil for others and more of a human viewpoint, but I love how you analyze his place in the narrative.
It would've been nice if there was a Hawkeye/Ronin movie between Infinity War and Endgame.

WHY? Because he does the impossible. Thor is a god, Tony a super genius with incredible armor, Bruce becomes a nearly unstoppable Force...
Clint fights the same battles as the other Avengers with a bow & arrow...but no powers!
He fights & survives things even gods struggle with...that's impressive

It's amazing, the analysis is great, and the way you perform very nice. I really like that you can analyze him in one direction. Stage, performance and identity.
I've always found it interesting that the one thing that never happened in the comics becomes the main structure for Clint in the movies. I love his character in many ways that the MCU never showed, but don't get it wrong, I am happy that I even got to see him in action- as few and far between it ended up being, that is. I just wish they could have given him more meaning without having to make something entirely up for the big screen. Simply put, Hawkeye was never meant to have a family. It shocked many of us, even those who never knew his character arc, when he suddenly had a family on a farm hidden away. It was sweet, yes, and it gave us something to see that comic Hawkeye could never achieve. Which is complete normality and freedom enough to even have a family. That becomes less unrealistically impossible when considering how little the movies actually had him play a role. Making it just that easier for the screenwriters to decide that course of action. It's those simple differences, as described in this video, that end up becoming Hawkeye's main points: support, encouragement, reminder, and hope. I've come to love and hate it, but that's mainly due to being a comic fan. As I've said, I am happy that I got to see his character in such a massive movie series, but I can't help but wish that somethings could've played out a little differently at times.
As for the HAWKEYE tv series coming in a year or so, I've heard it'll follow one of the most beloved comic arcs with Kate Bishop. So here's to hoping that the show will offer Clint Barton a little more depth as he trains the new Hawkeye.
You do know that Hawkeye, SHIELD agent, has a family in the comics, right? MCU is based more on Ultimates!Hawkeye than 616!Hawkeye. He even goes rogue, though not under the name Ronin, in Ults after tragedy befalls them. Like, it's literally straight out of the comics in some very direct ways.
You could have had 616!Hawkeye, but not as a SHIELD agent. That's the one thing he can't be, at least not for long, in the 616 continuity given his anti-authority leanings.

In my opinion, Hawkeye is the most important Avenger because he doesn't come from crazy places like the others do, or appear particularly extraordinary. Like the video says, he's able to induce the most dramatic changes in the others as well. He reminds everyone of their humanness.
I love the socio-depth psychology here, eschewing the fad idea of interrelatedness and synergistic relationships as codependent.

Unpopular opinion: Hawkeye has always been my favorite. Even in the comics
Hawkeye has long been my favourite Avenger. I think it was Stan himself who said the Fantastic Four are a family, the X-Men a school, and the Avengers a football team. In this analogy, I see Hawkeye as an offensive lineman, contributing to the team's overall success without the individual flash of the receivers, running backs and QB. And that gels nicely with what he does throughout the movies - be it bigging up the others so they can achieve, or taking the hit to free others to score. I guess that makes it obvious why I like him so much...
I just realized, in Endgame Tony is reluctant to help because he doesn't want to lose his family whereas Clint already lost his family. Would've been interesting to see how they played off of each other once again with opposite perspectives.

The artists formerly known as Lil dookie shoes I’m afraid that’d be way to easy, the issue with Hawkeye vs anyone who isn’t invincible, is he’s a super spy who most likely won’t be seen, plus he has perfect aim so it’ll only take one shot to kill whoever he’s after.
Hawkeye is my favorite super hero. I just love the fact that he has no powers, but still is a character that the Avengers need, because between a god or a giant monster they need a normal guy that holds them together. I can just really relate to him and he will always be my favorite super hero.
I am looking forward to Hawkeyes show. I still think his daughter should pick up the mantel, especially after how they set stuff up in the the last two Avenger films. Renner's song "Heaven Don't Have a Name" is good, as well. Good for the club or gym.

He should have gotten his solo movie in 2009 after Iron Man. It could have shown his interaction with Black Widow when she was still an enemy.

ジェレミー・レナーがこの役で良かったです。暗殺者でありながら家族を持ち、それらを失った際の絶望や、戻ってきた際の喜びの表現は素晴らしかったです。

Hawkeye may be plain, but I like him.

Jeremy Renner was good at this role. Despite being an assassin and having a family, the despair of losing them and the expression of joy when returning were amazing.
Men, after watching this video, I love Hawkeye, now I have to rewatch all the avengers movies.. thanx guy
Hawkeye might have been something akin to a secondary character, one which everyone was allowed to reflect themselves on, but that reflection is such a significant thing to the characters that the only reason it's not center stage, is because a universe-spanning conflict is sitting there.
imagine your purpose in life is to serve as context for another person, like a character foil. always viewed as secondary, as a means for the main to achieve and complete their art. shame.
why i love Clint. he himself knows this but instead of being sadden by it he actually lives up to it. happily so. the Avengers, on a personal level, would not have made it far without him.
You gotta do a video on Scott Lang, Ant-Man and Peter Parker, Spider-Man. I view them their normal mundane lives to be just as important as the larger than life aspects of the MCU

The beautiful thing about Hawk eye ( Clint) and Black widow ( Nat) is simplicity of who they are . They may not Be the most powerful , or the smartest or The strongest of The avengers . But they are the most loyal and human of them particularly Hawk eye who dispite being the only not enhanced human on the avengers team . Stand up to and shout down Demi god Thor or tony or Steve and win the argument despite knowing that they could easily kill him for it. I mean hawk eyes main weapon of choice is basically a tricked out stick and piece string he doesn’t have any powers fall back on in a fight. He has to relie on his training and skills not only as master spy And assassin but as master Archer and hope that Tony, Steve ,Thor and Bruce can pull together long enough to do their parts . Nat of coarse is different story as she always has Clint’s back and He has hers right too the very end.

Underrated avenger
Your observations of Hawkeye goes back to his appearance in the Avengers comic book series ; Captain America had saw that Clint Barton (Hawkeye) have certain qualities that had Captain America noticed that would make him a good member of the Avengers. Check the original story in trade paperback reprint series.
For charecter to be apart of a team that comprises of superpowers secret agents and super soldiers Client was the most human out of all of them
