Excellent video mate Thabks However would it work over a major seventh or a half diminished or something not just major or minor? Or would you use extra notes ie 7th for 7th chord etc etc
Steve how would I play A major pentatonic in shapes 2,3 or 5 since those shapes dont use a pinky finger in the beginning, would I still go down the fret board to three frets down ?
Lol First , He is demonstrating to you what will turn out for you to be a meaningless or useless concept thats not meant to be taken litterally ! He is simply showing you the concept of using triads to outline chord tones, which very quickly will cause an enexperienced player tp get frustrated and or confused, which Greatly enhanceces the chance that you will sign up for his paid lessons. What he is saying is Technically Correct but this clown is a master of leaving out key information but looking on the surface like he is explaining it all.....Nobody (not even him) approaches lead guitar this way !..The C-F-G-A Triads or Notes are all within a Simple C Major scale .. Scales are harmonized in a way that you dont need to chase chords ! Im saying this and you can watch his video on Modes where he himself (Steve Stine) saying how rediculous chasing all these chords really is ! Everybody needs money sure but videos like this only Targets people who dont know the reality of whats being taught. Want proof of my assertions? Watch and listen to the video (CONFUSED BY MODES? MASTER THEM TODAY) LISTEN AT THE 3.30 MARK TO 5 AND YOU WILL HEAR OUR FRIEND REBUKE ANYONE THAT TAKES THE APPROACH HES SHOWING YOU TODAY. TRIADS = REALITY....REALITY=MONEY
@@SoonerTruth Such hatred from you. I see it only as a gradual process for the beginners. It's important to understand the concept first then move on to the better approach.
@@SoonerTruth - at 9:26 he explains the situations to use this chord chasing. He's not hiding it. I've played guitar for 14 months. This helps me understand more. That's good enough for me.

Chasing chords sums up this approach beautifully. If you stick to resting on harmony notes, especially the tonic as Steve demonstrated and connecting the next chord tone (tonic) with scale notes you will never hit a "sour" note. You start by learning where the tonics are for each chord in the song and rest/vibrato on them only. Watch Steve's video again. It is excellent.
The explanation that finally did it for me. I have been memorizing the pentatonic scale for years but didn't know how to apply it. This video is just the breakthrough I needed...Thank you.

Steve I really gotta thank you brudda. After 15 years of playing guitar this was a singular lesson that changed everything for me. I’ve been able to rock solos like a pro in the last year.
(1) concise, (2) straight to the point, (3) easy to follow. This is how people must teach guitar. Learning guitar can sometimes be very stressful, hence thinks should be taught in an understandable manner. Thank you Steve
Love the fact that you don't actually just tell us something, you actually take the time and patience to explains the whys and hows with it. Thank you . Great video. :)

I'm blind. I've always been a rhythm player, despite taking lessons here and there over the years... This lesson bridged something in my brain and I can visualize what I need to do to play lead guitar. I'll probably start off chacing chords and develop my lead skills with time. I know quite a few skells but this made a difference.
I dusted off my guitar after years of it sleeping in my wardrobe. Gotta say your lessons are by far the easiest and best on TH-cam. Thanks from New Zealand!
Music theory has always been very difficult for me, but the way you explained it and how you visualize the scales has been INCREDIBLY helpful. Thank you so much!!!
It's not you, guitars are not the ideal instruments to visualize music theory. Just buy a cheap keyboard and chords, inversions, scales, major - minor - dim, all will look straightforward on a diatonic instrument.
all these years playing just blindly over the fret, following a feeling, suddenly i can read the fret like its a book. today i am going away more confident in my abilities and actually learned something! and this all for free. thanks you so much steve!
@11:55 when you began soloing over the four chord changes from one position it almost moved me to tears, it was a beautiful improvisation. Thank you for taking the time in putting these videos together and for explaining everything so well. Best wishes to you.
This is probably the most comprehensive and most useful video on guitar tutorials here in YT, specifically in the topic of soloing using Pentatonic Major Scale.
Unknowningly using diatonic scaling over the past 16 yrs and now steve taught me the best simple way to play the Pentonic scaling. Thank you Steve😌longliveGuitarZoom!

Six months ago started watching your videos did not know anything about scales or the fret board have learned so much and playing way better thankyou Steve
I have watched plenty of videos to get an idea about how pentatonic scales connect with chords. This video made the most sense and gave something to work with. I was so confused up until this point.
great job Steve been watching your lessons for a couple of years now and they help a lot...been trying to mix soloing with chords...and im getting there thanks to your lessons....started playing in 2016 and am 59 years old now so time is of the essence...…..lol thanks again....
Steve, where were you back in 1963? That's when I started playing guitar, and like most, I had to study ALL of the scales up and down the neck, plus etudes, arpeggios, etc. and eventually, after many years of boredom combined with frustration, I finally got it. But you just laid all those years out in 14 minutes! I never saw it so simply put. ALL of the scales - whether pentatonic, major, minor, modal - are in those positions wherever a root note is. That's true teaching. Well done!

Never in years of playing have I realized this can you imagine how much this has helped, I play bass and Steve is the best bass teacher sorry i have been lucky enough to find { Steve you really don't know how much you have helped me} its really really coming together i see the fret board in a totally different and much more logical way, 20 years or so of theory now finally makes sense after watching your lessons. THANK YOU sir.
Hi Trooper! Thank you so much for your kind words. Really happy to know the lessons have been useful to you. Any questions please feel free to ask anytime.
While I have several years of brass instrument knowledge I am a complete beginner noob on a gutair. My previous music back ground is giving me an edge on learning but I must say you are one of the best teachers I've met . What I picked up in 15bmins would of taken me a year or more to learn the hard way. Thank. One day I will be on your playing level and that's sooner rather than later thanks to you. I'll be watching many more videos of yours . Thank you
I haven’t been playing for a long long time but somehow circle back to Music theory every now and then. The way you pieced this together is so clear and is exactly how it should be taught. Breaking down the diatonic scale into digestible pentatonic chunks is The way. It makes you sound musically more elaborate than a tonal center single pentatonic box over a progression. All the different flavors of pentatonic modulation coming to life with a diatonic richness. So cool. Thanks man.
I always seem to come back to Steve Stine videos. There are a lot of other great teachers on TH-cam but Steve just makes sense in the least amount of time and the knowledge is pure gold!
Steve, I have really learned a lot from your videos. I am 63 years old, started playing when I was 32 and only played chords until two years ago. As you can guess learning lead licks and soloing has been and continues to be a challenge. I would love to see you focus a lesson or two on E major blues leads and E minor blues licks. It seems to me almost all TH-cam teachers focus mostly on A minor. I do appreciate your teaching style and again I have and continue to learn more than I ever imagined I could from you. I love playing and will paly as long as my fingers will move. Thanks.
Steve, I've purchased two of your older lessons (42 days to blazing guitar solos and Music Theory) and this vid is the best I've seen yet regarding visualizing the fretboard. Thank you for sharing!
This is GOLD to me. I learned the Pentatonic scale not in a caged way, I learned it from the low end to the high end down the fretboard. This really helps me make my music so much better!

Steve: this has helped me so much: just as your 5 positions of Am pentatonic is also really useful. You are a great teacher + very generous to help others understand scales in a manner that is not overpowering. Thanks a million
This is your second vid I've watched in two days. Both have helped me overcome longstanding obstacles to growth and progress. Thanks! "I'll be back..."
This is really some powerful stuff and Steve explained how it worked so well. I have been watching this video over and over again. Each time it made more sense to me ! Thanks Steve. You are Awesome !

Now I get it. I have been using your courses and it's finally starting to flow. I actually am starting to understand theory. Your blues masters class is such an eye opener and this video just cemented the playing in the same area using different chords. Thanks so much.
I've been confused for ever over how, or if, a minor pentatonic can be played over a major chord. You finally made it clear and understandable. I watch any number of TH-cam channels for how to play songs, but I always come back here to actually learn how to play the guitar.
Hi Steve, 5 years of guitar lessons and no-one has been able to say to me that playing major is simply playing minor but in another pentatonic position BUT YOU. I THANK YOU VERY MUCH for that tip because it just sounds so easy ti think that way.
I know that this video was made over a couple of years ago, but what you are teaching/sharing is exactly what I needed, and is where I am at in my guitar playing development. What you are trying to convey is very clear and I learned quite a bit. Thanks very much for this video!
Dude 👏👏 thank you so much I’ve know for years how to play pentatonic scales but I never knew how to put them all together and what to make of it. This lesson has put me in a whole new playing field. Thank you so much Steve!

One of the best lessons I've ever encountered!!! The skills I've previously developed have been like dis-joint puzzle pieces. This lesson will be the key to me be able to play a VARIETY of COMPLETE songs. Thanks for showing me the way out of the rut! Incredibly useful!
wow, I learned something.. being super good with the pentatonic, I'd play the 'first position' on C and continue playing the C pentatonic up and down the neck for the duration of the song through all chord changes. So I learned that I have got to play a different pentatonic with each chord.. I know the positions well (I had my own names), now I can just play the different positions on the same spot depending on the chords! Thanks so much, I can't wait to go home and try this!!! Never in the history of guitar playing has someone known all the pentatonic positions and never been able to do anything with it! There is an upgrade coming to my music! Thanks Steve!
Hi 89tuber. Steve is not exactly prescribing the chord following approach (though many guitar teachers do). He clearly says that if you know the chords but have difficulty with the changing key or with knowing what notes to play, this approach can help you sound good. I feel that if we restrict ourselves to the pentatonic for each chord, we are almost just playing arpeggiated chords. That could be restrictive, and the mental effort in doing it might reduce our ability to create an cohesive, interesting counterpoint melody.
Oh man i think i have to play only one pentatonic scale linked with key of progression, i even don't think in that way to play pentatonic scale linked to every single chord of progression, that's amazing!
Ive played for years got stuck in a rut never could grasp these things. My lead playin was terrible, never knew how and where to move. Ive watched this video a few times and it finally clicks for me using the pentatonic scales. You explained it so easily to me. I am subscribed and will use your knowledge and videos exclusively from here on out! Thank you so much for your time and sharing!

However would it work over a major seventh or a half diminished or something not just major or minor?
Or would you use extra notes ie 7th for 7th chord etc etc
Please stop the translation software in the titles. This is not German at all. Everybody in Europe understand more or less English.
Steve how would I play A major pentatonic in shapes 2,3 or 5 since those shapes dont use a pinky finger in the beginning, would I still go down the fret board to three frets down ?
This is exactly what i am looking for.
I am interested in purchasing a course. From what course is this from?

First person to actually make sense 💯🔥
Many words combine that still makes sense.
Possibly I've heard
Too much
Music Theory
I know too much
Agreed alex.
Completely agree.... Well done Steve!
For real this dude is a good coach
Man, you are such a good teacher. While most people leave us with more questions than answers you leave us with all the answers! Thank you
Hey thanks so much for your comment and kind words! So glad to know the lessons are helpful. My pleasure! 👍
The explanation that finally did it for me. I have been memorizing the pentatonic scale for years but didn't know how to apply it. This video is just the breakthrough I needed...Thank you.

My lead playing has jumped countless levels over the last couple years due to a few great teachers on youtube. I just wanted to say thank you, Steve, as you are certainly one of the best teachers on here and I have learned a ton from you. I appreciate your no nonsense approach. have a great day!

Steve I really gotta thank you brudda. After 15 years of playing guitar this
was a singular lesson that changed everything for me. I’ve been able to rock solos like a pro in the last year.
(1) concise, (2) straight to the point, (3) easy to follow. This is how people must teach guitar. Learning guitar can sometimes be very stressful, hence thinks should be taught in an understandable manner. Thank you Steve
And he does it for free. How bad ass is that?
Love the fact that you don't actually just tell us something, you actually take the time and patience to explains the whys and hows with it. Thank you . Great video. :)
Whoa!!! You’ve got to be kidding me. I have been watching your videos for two days and I have learnt more in these two days than I have in a whole year.
Hi steve. i am a retired welder, and have played acoustic guitar most all my life. i however many times just got stuck, and discouraged, and would slip away.
Thanks to you it all makes sense now, and i would just like to say thank you!....you are a great teacher!
Who says you cannot teach an old dog new tricks!, and you never fail until you stop trying.....
Awesome, Robert! Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing your experience! :-)

The best teacher I've ever seen clear and easy to understand great job Steve!
This is one of the most educative pentatonic lesson online! Thank you, greetings from Tanzania.
This guy Steve, is truly an awesome guitar teacher. Thank you Steve !
Thank you so much, Lim.
@@stinemusiclessons ur cute
all these years playing just blindly over the fret, following a feeling, suddenly i can read the fret like its a book. today i am going away more confident in my abilities and actually learned something! and this all for free. thanks you so much steve!
hmakam congrats
hmakam, God sure is good! He died for our sins 2000 years ago, and he continues to bless us 2,000 years later!
You are a blessing for all of us, Steve. Thank you so much.
@11:55 when you began soloing over the four chord changes from one position it almost moved me to tears, it was a beautiful improvisation.
Thank you for taking the time in putting these videos together and for explaining everything so well.
Best wishes to you.
Best, most well explained guitar lessons on YT. Period.
This is probably one of the best lessons I've ever seen. Thank you Steve, you're bar none, the best teacher on TH-cam.
Awesome, Cloud! Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing your experience! :-)

Such a great teacher, I feel like I’ve learned more in the last month watching your videos than I have in my 10 years of playing. Thanks, Steve!
Six months ago started watching your videos did not know anything about scales or the fret board have learned so much and playing way better thankyou Steve
This is insane lesson to boost up my skills..thank man love from India
Well done!
Thanks for all the kind words! And thanks for sharing your experience! :-)

Your lessons are the best Steve. You are a gifted teacher and a guitarist, a rare combination. Thank you for all the great videos.
Never in years of playing have I realized this can you imagine how much this has helped,
I play bass and Steve is the best bass teacher sorry i have been lucky enough to find
{ Steve you really don't know how much you have helped me}
its really really coming together i see the fret board in a totally different and much more logical way,
20 years or so of theory now finally makes sense after watching your lessons.
THANK YOU sir.
Hi Trooper! Thank you so much for your kind words. Really happy to know the lessons have been useful to you. Any questions please feel free to ask anytime.
what i like about Mr. Steve is he is more focused on the "principle" or the "theory" of a certain aspect of guitar playing
Thanks.
Gosh I LOVE how he explains things! ! I learn SO much from watching literally just Steve Stine. THANK YOU for QUALITY videos! !
Thanks for watching! :-)

Steve: this has helped me so much: just as your 5 positions of Am pentatonic is also really useful. You are a great teacher + very generous to help others understand scales in a manner that is not overpowering. Thanks a million
No matter where I go to learn; it's always back to Steve to make it make sense. Bravo broski mcbroskavich.
This is your second vid I've watched in two days. Both have helped me overcome longstanding obstacles to growth and progress. Thanks! "I'll be back..."
Ive been trying to figure out these pentatonics for days and this guy made me understood in a few minutes.
This is really some powerful stuff and Steve explained how it worked so well. I have been watching this video over and over again. Each time it made more sense to me ! Thanks Steve. You are Awesome !
Finally!! The video i was looking for.I will not miss your videos anymore
Hi. Awesome! Happy to know you liked the lesson and thanks for your comment!
Thank you so much Steve for sharing your talent... i can now play solo in our church even i am not as good as others.
God bless you more!
Same dude.. I really want to do my own solo on praise and worship song. After watching this video, I can now improvise my lead guitar skills.
Playing the guitar for 35 years and this made more sense with so much clarity for me. Best explanation I've seen. Thank you
Thanks for the kind words, Mike! And thanks for watching. :-)

You’re awesome man! I’ve been watching and learning your videos for couple of years now, and you’re one of the reason why I’m improving fast on guitar playing. God Bless you Steve!
This guy is gifted. What an amazing teacher, thanks!
Nice JOb!! painlessly, and practical and so much easier to understand after 10 years of practicing and studying music theory. Thank-you!
Absolutely simplified ..Great job Steve.
I am so glad to hear that, Larry!
Boom! Finally a video that explains the principles of soloing over chords. Great video. Simplicity is the key. Thanks from ISRAEL.
Hi Steve, 5 years of guitar lessons and no-one has been able to say to me that playing major is simply playing minor but in another pentatonic position BUT YOU. I THANK YOU VERY MUCH for that tip because it just sounds so easy ti think that way.
That was one outstanding guitar lesson. I’m going to get a lot of mileage out of this. Thank you.
Totally agree!
this guy is a great teacher. need more people like you in this world.

Thank you so much. You are the first person I have come across that actually explains this so normal people can understand it. Now I can actually use it.
Steve, you're the best! This is exactly what I was looking for! This answered most of my doubts! Thanks a ton 😊
Steve I sub to GT and JustinG, also use a myriad of YT and book resources. Hands down , you are THE BEST guitar teacher/instructor bar none. In my life I've known a few teachers/instructors in different disciplines with an exceptional gift, but they're the rare exception. Your ability to communicate concisely yet so clearly a complete understanding of whatever it is you're teaching thoroughly impresses me any time I watch your tutorials. Thank you for being you, and thank you for sharing your gift.
The best guitar teacher ever!
This is the single best guitar video I've seen. Hallelujah!....you can solo over any minor or major chord using the minor pentatonic position 1. I wish I'd seen this video 8 years ago! Nice one Steve!
Thanks for the kind words, Tony! :-)

everytime i see this guy my mind is blown away,he always finds the best way to teach u something, love u man,no homo:P
One of the best lessons I've ever encountered!!! The skills I've previously developed have been like dis-joint puzzle pieces. This lesson will be the key to me be able to play a VARIETY of COMPLETE songs. Thanks for showing me the way out of the rut! Incredibly useful!
Very cool....I use chord pulse on my laptop and chordbot on my phone...both great to jam too also good for song writing and trying new progressions...
wow, I learned something.. being super good with the pentatonic, I'd play the 'first position' on C and continue playing the C pentatonic up and down the neck for the duration of the song through all chord changes.
Amazing lesson! So helpful and explained so well. Thank you, Friend. This has been a huge help in getting an understanding of the pentatonic scales. 🙏
This may be the best lesson to learn from that I have ever watched! Excellent!
One of the best lessons so far in youtube! Thank you sir 😊
This is the best lesson I have seen. Well explained, and I now understand why and how the pentatonic shapes all fit in. Thank you again from England
This was really helpful ❤
Clear, concise and to the point. Take a bow, love educators like you.
Thanks for watching and subscribing, Mike! And thanks for sharing your progress! :-)
