Thanks to you I just got started on the path after 50 years of play. I am doing everything I can to share your beginner lessons with the world Dr. Steve. You have discovered the cure for music cancer that is killing the world. Music cancer causes 90% who purchase a guitar to give up. Rock on doctor.
Steve, I want to play the blues because to me that's music. When starting your lessons about 6 months ago has helped so much. I need to learn so much more cause I've just started learning. Thanks bro
I've never had a lesson in person but I'll never say I was self taught. Because the men like yourself that are putting this on TH-cam have been my tutors and you guys are opening my eyes to a whole new world on the guitar. Thank you sir!
Steve, 2 years ago I picked up a guitar for the first time in 40 years (army, family and teaching). I needed some form of physical therapy after I injured my hands in Afghanistan in 2013. Last time I played was 1977. I've listen to dozens of lessons online and you are the first instructor I understand. I'm very happy to have found you. A BIG thank you brother.
Wil Seda - I totally agree! I have taught guitar class in public schools since 1978 and Steve is by far the most effective and knowledgeable online instructor I have found.
Wil read your post and amazed at the almost mirror image of our adult lives. I stop playing years ago because I couldn’t write or play without my wife getting jealous of some imaginary girl, smashed guitar then never played seriously for years. Through in 5 deployments Iraq Afghan Pakistan distroyed back and ptsd that has made short term mem none existent. I total feel ya bro. Rock on
Thank you for fighting for us. We cannot forget that. We are free because of people like you. I like how this guy teaches. No ego involved. Just gives the facts straight up. Keeps things slow enough for beginners.
NO!!!! THANK YOU STEVE!! YOU HAVE TRANSFORMED MY PLAYING IN JUST A FEW SHORT DAYS!!!!! I WILL BE LEARNING FROM YOU FROM NOW ON! I FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE WHO CAN EXPLAIN THINGS TO ME!!! OMG! IM 53 YEARS OLD. I SANG IN BANDS IN THE 80S DOING CLASSIC ROCK. BUT I ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY GUITAR!! BUT NO ONE COULD EXPLAIN IT TO ME UNTIL NOW!!! THANK GOD!!!!! I FOUND YOU!!!! I HAD GIVEN UP UNTIL I SAW A VIDEO THAT YOU MADE ON HOW TO SOLO IN 5 MINS!! THAT VIDEO CHANGED EVERYTHING!!!! IF I HAD NOT SEEN THAT VIDEO, I WOULD HAVE SOLD ALL MY GUITARS!!! THE NEXT DAY. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! IM A STINE STINGER FROM NOW ON!!!!!! ROCK ON!!!
Steve, I have to say I've seen a lot of guitar videos over the years that I thought had at least some level of merit, but yours are the best bar none. Everything about your content, your presentation style, your personality, etc. is just spot on for me. Thanks for putting this material together - I feel nearly sure I'll spring for one of your courses; I just need to figure out which one. This video in particular is excellent - most of the bits of information in it I already knew, but you just brought them together with such clarity that I feel like I actually "get" the big picture better. Keep up the great work, man!
In my teen days, I played guitar with tabs and how to play that song youtube vides & etc. Now that I'm 25, I played again and realized I didn't even bother to know the theory back then and so here I am. Strange times when we mature.
I`ve listen to a million youtube guitar teachers and also bought a couple of courses. Steve is hands down the best and the reason is that he knows ...... how to teach ! Guitar players that know how to play are a dime a dozen, but someone that also has the skill to convey this knowledge is a rare sight. Steve, you rule
as I "like" this page, I'm STYMIED how someone could even THINK to give it a thumbs down. Cuz THEY lack the aptitude to "get" it????? Amazed. Steve is 1 of if not THEY best Teacher on line.
I've been picking at my guitar for 40 years or so and I've become technically proficient within limits. When I started out, I learned the basic chords, but I've never had the luxury of having the slightest understanding of music theory. Frankly, I always got lost when I tried taking that next step. Last month, I stumbled across Steve Stine's excellent series of lessons and lights began turning on in the musical wasteland inside my head. Thank you Steve, for your whiteboard and your logical progression of lessons. Your bite sized lessons have helped me to make sense of my instrument in a way I never would have imagined.
Thanks be unto the universe for delivering to us Steve "Ein" Stine !! *THE* best guitar teacher this side of Proxima Centauri ! Seriously, man... I can't thank you enough for how you've helped me come to grips with learning this new language of music. And it really *is* like learning a new language, but "Ein" Stine makes it far easier than I thought it would/could be. I've had more 'aha!' moments while watching a small handful of your videos than in my entire 30ish years of -->trying
I am happy i found Steve ,couse he shows u the path with passion ...i started again from begining and i understand more and more..if not i come back watching more times .this time i understand 3rd and 5th.all knowing from from before was chords,bares..nothing more..now i play slowly under minor jam track, 4 positions of e minor pentatonic to try to conect them and try to get melody out..sory for my english.. Big Thanks ..
I've been playing for years and never had confidence and that must have been the only thing holding me back because watching your videos has made my ability EXPLODE
Steve, your lessons are awesome man. I've been playing for almost 25 years almost solely by ear and never bothered to learn theory (regretfully I might add). Your explanations are easy to follow and make total sense. For the first time I am starting to see the fretboard linking together. Thanks man. Keep up,the great work!
I have had an electric guitar (custom fender) for over 20 years. Played it for only a couple of times because my voice is my main instrument and I thought I'm too clumsy. With your videos I have started to develop my skills very fast. Thank you sir for your brilliant lessons.
Steve it's so get to have some help in these areas of my guitar/music understanding. I have been playing for twenty years and find myself still searching for understanding of what is is I'm doing. I really appreciate your humility, and graciousness to take your time to teach people music. It's really awesome. Thanks man!
Great teacher. I am 64 years old (retired in my country), so it's time to start doing what was my desire from time I was aware of my self. Was playing a violin when I was a child, it is time for something else now.
Steve. This is amazing. You really explain things in details while offering the overall picture. I used to play when I was a kid and then stopped for many years. I started back 5 years ago and got fascinated with all the theory behind the sounds. As an adult, I really value the possibility to learn at my own pace and your videos help so much. Thanks for the time and sharing. Alesiso
I spent 3 years in university literally graduated with no understanding of the music theory...but now with steve took me only 20 mins and BAMMMM i can see the light! Incredible! thank you
Hey bro need help , I didn't understand here one thing .... From C to E it's 2 interval but how from E to G is 1 1/2 interval. This is confusing me a lot. Can you help me with this.
I've been playing guitar for years - know a lot of songs; have tried to take lessons to no avail...........last night I discovered Steve.......WoW this guy Steve has the knowledge, technique and fantastic bed side manner in teaching. Keep up the good work best I've seen anywhere
Of all the folks providing guidance on guitar, this is by far the most professional, knowledgable and valuable channel to learn. I have found answers here that no professional music treacher have been able to provide. Perhaps it’s just my own wierdness that causes the confusion. Well, in that case, this guy “gets” me.
This theory lesson is EPIC!!! It clears up so much confusion and creates so much clarity about how music 'works'!! Now I have to go back and watch the first two videos to add some missing perspective. Steve Stine, you ROCK!!! Thank you! I'm signing up for your theory course today!!
Hey Steve, are you still teaching at college? How fortunate for the students there. I took college level music 101, teacher was not bad. A piano player, and his approach was key board related. Only five years in picking up the guitar (85') and boy I just couldn't grasp theory. Failed the course, tried the following year and, the instructor was a classical guitar player from Germany. You remind me of him, and I was drawn to him like the Bible. I got a chance to jam with him a few times out side the class room. My family had some unfortunate situations that made me miss my final exam which was on a Friday and, grades to be released that following Monday. Because I had a good report with him, and he knew of my family situation. He let me take the test at his home and, I passed the class with no problem. What a great person he was for helping me, and I will never forget meeting great people like that. I have meet Steve Vai a couple of times and, I hope to get to meet you some day.
I'm so Blessed watching the tutorials of this Cool Music Teacher, and I've learned a lot from him! And Im actually using it whenever i play. Anyway I'm already watching Steve Stine since 3 years ago up until now
Steve, awesome teaching makes me think hard as I am 65 yrs old just started my guitar lessons with zero background! Absolutely very good teacher, teaching is slow and clear.

Dear steve After 18 years of playing guitar blindly and without any idea what i'm doing , using many tabs and gp file and just playing cover songs, also because of family pressure to playing piano instead of electric guitar, now by seeing your video's , my foggy mind in playing completely cleared , i dont know how to thank you, if i was near by i would come and bring you gifts. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your knowledge.

The 3 letter skips you showed us here is so cool. Adding the circle of fifths/fourths to that gives this: going counter-clockwise, after F, the 5th is flatted, and going clockwise, after G, the 3rd is sharped. In the enharmonic zone that gets warped, but, yeah. Thank you Steve!

I have watched countless videos on chord theory trying to learn how chords are built. This has to be, by far, the most well explained lesson. Even went as far as how to move up the scale and alter the chord.

by the way you've been really helpful .. it's a miracle the way you teach .. saw tons of videos and online lesson but you were the most lucid and innovative .. thankyou
I've taken lessons in person, watched many hours of people on TH-cam and online lessons all explain the same things this guy explains in his lessons only for some reason it makes sense when he says it. It actually makes sense. It doesn't feel like I'm just memorizing nonsense when it makes sense like this.
I ALMOST did not watch this, thinking I knew where you were going with this lesson and that "I knew this". But...I said to myself, keep watching, Steve Stine always teaches you something in a new and cool way. So I hung in there and I am shaking my head, amazed at what finally clicked. Pretty cool indeed.

I love this, it truly helps me. As a self taught player, I never understood scales and chords for the first 10 yrs if playing. I did it backwards. Appreciate you brother
Hey bro need help , I didn't understand here one thing .... From C to E it's 2 interval but how from E to G is 1 1/2 interval. This is confusing me a lot. Can you help me with this.
Hey Steve just want to say thank you for all the knowledge. I'm an instructor (helicopters) myself and greatly appreciate your approach to teaching. I've seen allot of videos on guitar theory and you by far are the best I've found. Cheers.
Steve i will be checking all your videos you have ever made in your entire life. No one else manages to teach me musical theory successfully. If I get rich I am 100% going to invest in starting a musical outreach program to at risk youth in your name.

I did not understand this the first time I watched it. Then today I stumbled upon another creator who made a video about turning a major scale into chord progressions, and he mentioned the M-m-m-M-M-m-d formula without getting into the technical part yet. So I didn't understand that video as well. I remembered this video (vaguely; had to search for a little while) because of that formula, and now I am back here, simply amazed by these theories, how they all connect and are applied. I guess what I'm saying is thank you. Thanks to you and all the other creators here who are putting out content for us. Thank you. :)
Been playing for 50 years, and except for 2 years of classical lessons, mainly self taught. I had to watch this a couple of times but I definitely learnt a lot. Thank you. 😁👏🇦🇺
Thank you so much for this kind of video. I'm pretty much at this point in my guitar playing and its really helpful and informative having you present all this!
I grew up learning by ear didn't have access to this, so now i play very well by ear. Theory is important so ive been trying to learm but it just doesn't make semse , it never has but for some reason i can just play on or over everything that i come across. Theres something be said for for both methods. Im learning the theory because i want to, but I have never walked into a session and not been able to keep up or even move past folx who know theory. I feel like sometimes folx grt so lost in theory holes they cant just let the music flow. Hoping this will begin to make sense but I really think you folx need to realize there's real esr players who have impeccable ears out there and saying definitely thay we are not good for having thay ability feels narrow minded. Ive literally seen folx say what you're saying then watch me play or sing and say, you dont know any theory? And im like i just started learning theory... but have been playing complex shit forever , my ear just gets it i dont know why, its not a bad thing, ears are great, and theory is too, thats what you should be saying, learn both techniques. Learn both.
I used to play guitar and became pretty good 'technically'. But I soon grew tired of blindly covering songs without understanding the theory behind those. And that was years ago ( med school happened and i graduated). Somehow i took my guitar once again and this time it would be better,i can feel it! Thank you so much! Love from 'Bangladesh'!
In all the time i have been struggling to learn the guitar i have never seen this explained this way! i now understand, awesome almost tempted to purchase a course from you very soon
Steve - as a young girl i took piano lessons and have always wondered how what i know about piano notes and chords to the guitar. Now I know! Thank you for your clear and concise explanation. Bravo!
Steve, if your lessons were music, I would call your lessons, easy listening. You are a very good teacher, and I thank you very much. I learn slow and I guess it is because of my age ( 73 ) but your lessons are easy to listen to. Once again, thank you very much.
I commented on another video but I wanted to say here that THIS was the first video I watched by you and, after playing guitar on and off for years and learning basic theory on keyboard, put everything together for me and completely demystified the fretboard, which has always seemed insurmountably confusing to me, but not anymore! :D I still have a lot to learn but I feel like I'm in good hands now. Thanks Steve!
A theory is the highest workable set of rules in a science. Anyone who says "that's just a theory" is using the colloquial sense of the word theory which in the sciences is called a "hypothesis" and not a "theory".
Gotta be hands down the best instructor I’ve ever listened to. Self taught since I picked up my first guitar at 8. Always played well, and always by ear. But this one video just opened up a whole new world to me. Up until now, I could never fully understand the theory behind it all. 32 years later I finally get it. And mostly because you put it into something I fully understand...MATH. Lol. Thank you Steve. Hats off to ya.
Because there are half steps in between the notes. You count in thirds: C->D->E->F->G->A->B->C You have half steps from the third to the forth and from the seventh to the eighth. That means: C -> D = Fullstep (1) D -> E = Fullstep (1) E -> F = Halfstep (1/2) F -> G = Fullstep (1) G -> A = Fullstep (1) A -> B =Fullstep (1) B -> C =Halfstep (1/2) Now the C Chord consist of C, E, and G. From C to E you have two Fullsteps, from E to G on the other hand one Fullstep and one Halfstep. That's why it's 2 over 1 & 1/2. You can convert this on all other Chords.
Did you get an answer? If not: the way we tune musical instruments results in 12 half steps in an Octave (8 notes, like from C to C). The tonal 'distance' from one note to the next note higher is either 1 half step or 2 half steps. C->D is 2 half steps or 1 whole step. There are only 2 intervals (distance between 2 notes) in a major scale that have 1 half step. That's E->F and B->C. All the rest are 2 half steps. So in a Triad, where you are looking at the steps between the root, third and fifth, just count the half steps between the two notes. You'll get 2 whole steps(4 half steps) or 1 1/2 steps, depending on where you start. If you count all the half steps now you'll get 12. The reasoning for having the two half step intervals is your ear. The way you hear music that is 'pleasing'. Check out google for a more in depth discussion on 'musical intervals'. There are lots that very good. Steve might have covered this in other lessons, I'm not all the way through. I'd check his lessons first. Best of luck.
Steve, you are by far my favourite guitar teacher on TH-cam. I've watched all kinds of tutorials from other channels, but the way you teach and explain things in great detail and patience is beyond any other. Thank you so much for your knowledge and time!

For sure a gifted teacher if I can understand it. Steve, I had to come back the next day and look back at the Mighty 7. I then grabbed my chromatic pitch instrument, and went backwards on the notes. GEC is NBC's chime. AFD, oh that's a pick at those 3 notes all day long and so on. That was a huge puzzle condensed for me, theory wise. The fixed triads. Chase any Root, then the 3-5 count, skip the (C), go find the note on the fret board. Thanks! Signed, Reversengineering.

Hey Steve I just want to tell you thank you. I've just beginvieeing your videos I watched like 15 20 minutes of the video showing the notes on the guitar and the strings. I've been playing guitar on and off for 38 yrs. I'm not an accomplishment or naturally talented musician however I am able to entertain my self and continue to be intrigued and enjoy continuously challenged by new things in the guitar. I have never been able to learn the notes that you were teaching I've been shown some things through the years. Either I couldn't understand it as well so if I'm not getn something pretty quickly I tend to elaborate and do what I se makes sense and most likely it's goin to be incorrect. I watched literally 5 minutes if your video and though I haven't memorized them yet I do understand where they are, what they are and what you do with the knoedge of knowing and understanding the theory behind it thank you sir for your teaching approach and ability that you have. Along with your enourmous generosity to use your skill in a way that doesn't cost someone a fortune. God bless you thank you

My guitar teacher does an excellent job at explaining all this for me but you can only really cram so much into a 30 minute lesson and really make it stick! It's always good to get more of a lengthy explanation so thank you so much for these vids! Helping a lot cheers
Your teaching is so clear it makes me think other teachers are hiding the real stuff on purpose! You seem to really want people to learn. Thanks again.
Sir, thank you so much for your time and effort. I had to pause the video and thank you because a person can pay thousands or seek endlessly for this type of education and even to the point where it can discourage one and I had the privilege to see this. So thank you once again, I really hope your efforts are being paid off!
along my journey learning guitar, it was hard to find an order to learn everything in. Your progression from the chromatic scale, to the major scale, and now to this video on chord theory, you are explaining it so methodically and clear. Thank You so much!!
I learned so much in this video Steve! You paid for your music education and I appreciate that you offer your time and simplify the concepts. Expertly Well taught and clean. Nobody is self taught. We all learn from generous people like you. When I finally can make music (only skill building for now) you will be part of the reason and will pay it forward. Thank you!
Hi Dolores! Thank you so much for your comment and kind words. It's awesome to see people enjoy the videos and lessons and above all they're helpful to your musical journey. Keep up the good work and thanks again for your input.
I bought some instructional books back then but felt I wasn't goin nowhere coz they were too technical for me. But you sir made me understand a lot of these concepts easier and made me pick up my guitar and practice again. Thank you
Hey bro need help , I didn't understand here one thing .... From C to E it's 2 interval but how from E to G is 1 1/2 interval. This is confusing me a lot. Can you help me with this.
I wish I had found this video 15 years ago when I was starting to learn guitar. I have wasted countless hours of my time watching videos reading lessons where this concept was explained extremely poorly, because most likely the teacher didn't understand this stuff either. Steve Stine you are the man. Once I get some time (now I am an adult with a job and responsibilities) , I am certainly going to be buying your course. Edit: I couldnt wait and I bought the Music Theory for life Course last night. Hopefully ill be able to make good use of it.

Thanks to you I just got started on the path after 50 years of play. I am doing everything I can to share your beginner lessons with the world Dr. Steve. Great job teaching me how to play. It's easy and I'm getting results, thanks.
Thanks sir

Steve,
2 years ago I picked up a guitar for the first time in 40 years (army, family and teaching). I needed some form of physical therapy after I injured my hands in Afghanistan in 2013. Last time I played was 1977. I've listen to dozens of lessons online and you are the first instructor I understand. I'm very happy to have found you. A BIG thank you brother.
Tight times
Thank you for your service to our great country. Hope your therapy continues to go well for you.
This dude deserves more subscribers, seriously.
You are so right man. I'm doing everything I can to spread the good news.
Has almost 600k now how much did he have before ?
Develop a troll farm and adopt 3000 usernames
Hi Steve, how can we add more chords after this three chords
He's got nearly 600,000 subscribers.....I don't think you have to worry bout him....he's done alright! Far better than most guitar utubers.....
ROCK ON!!!
COOL MAN
Steve, I have to say I've seen a lot of guitar videos over the years that I thought had at least some level of merit, but yours are the best bar none.
There’s a reason this man has hundreds of thousands of subscribers. His teachings are so simple and logical. Great work Steve. ❤
In my teen days, I played guitar with tabs and how to play that song youtube vides & etc. Now that I'm 25, I played again and realized I didn't even bother to know the theory back then and so here I am. Strange times when we mature.
Dude, I’m 25 and I’m scared haha
I`ve listen to a million youtube guitar teachers and also bought a couple of courses.
Steve is hands down the best and the reason is that he knows ...... how to teach !
Guitar players that know how to play are a dime a dozen, but someone that also has the skill to convey this knowledge is a rare sight.
Steve, you rule
Steve Stine has to be one of the best teachers i have seen on TH-cam, very clear and articulate, thank you !
as I "like" this page, I'm STYMIED how someone could even THINK to give it a thumbs down.
Your bite sized lessons have helped me to make sense of my instrument in a way I never would have
imagined.
Trying to lean your video is really helpful
After 20 years off from playing guitar using tablature, I'm mindblown by your teaching skills. I've learned so much in this video. Thank you!
*****
hehe in a nutshell, just thanking Steve for sharing his knowledge.
I could not agree with you more. He is the best in history.
Love how you say "these are our ruhts" good lesson!
This! Lol. Such a good lesson, but that "ruhts" its throwing me off XD
Midwestern accent. He’s probably from Iowa like me haha. Maybe Wisconsin.
I enjoy the science of this. Though I am afraid of numbers.
I've been playing guitar for years - know a lot of songs; have tried to take lessons to no avail...........last night I discovered Steve.......WoW this guy Steve has the knowledge, technique and fantastic bed side manner in teaching. Keep up the good work best I've seen anywhere
My favourite thing is to come back to this video every few months and learning something new from it
Of all the folks providing guidance on guitar, this is by far the most professional, knowledgable and valuable channel to learn.
Hi Steve my name is Bosse leaving on st.maarten and I find that you are one of the best teacher ever
congrats brother
I learn a lot from you.
Thanks for the kind words, Doris! And thanks for watching! :-)

Steve, your lessons are great and really inspiring. You are truly one the best teacher found in youtube!
There are those who are the best in playing guitar, but there's no one like this dude that can really explain it
can you make a video on amp settings and how to properly use a distortion pedal?
Dear steve
After 18 years of playing guitar blindly and without any idea what i'm doing , using many tabs and gp file and just playing cover songs, also because of family pressure to playing piano instead of electric guitar, now by seeing your video's , my foggy mind in playing completely cleared , i dont know how to thank you, if i was near by i would come and bring you gifts. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for watching, Katuzi! And thanks for all the kind words. :-)

This is by far the best tutorial I've watched. thank you!
Thanks for watching, Ross! :-)

Damn, probably the best video on chord theory I've ever seen. Really cleared a lot of things up for me. Thanks a lot man!
I've seen many videos of this and this one by far is the most thought out.
No doubt about it, this is the best explanation and easiest way to understand the structure of music and how it works on a guitar. Excellent Steve!
I have watched countless videos on chord theory trying to learn how chords are built. This has to be, by far, the most well explained lesson. Even went as far as how to move up the scale and alter the chord.
Thanks for the kind words, Jav T! And thanks for watching! :-)

by the way you've been really helpful .. it's a miracle the way you teach .. saw tons of videos and online lesson but you were the most lucid and innovative .. thankyou
Been playing guitar 20 years. Learned chord theory proper first time. Good stuff. Thanks Steve.
7:30 mind blown. said "woah" out loud. my brain is understanding years of me simply nodding instead of actually getting guitar chords.
Same here. lol
I've taken lessons in person, watched many hours of people on TH-cam and online lessons all explain the same things this guy explains in his lessons only for some reason it makes sense when he says it. It actually makes sense. It doesn't feel like I'm just memorizing nonsense when it makes sense like this.
No no no Mr. Steve THANK YOU!

I am no longer scared of theory... thanks so much, Steve! This makes so much sense!
Your lessons are so clear to understand, some teachers speak too fast, you are the best, especially for someone who is no mother tongue
Great video! I learned alot. thanks so much!
I love this, it truly helps me. As a self taught player, I never understood scales and chords for the first 10 yrs if playing. I did it backwards.
Appreciate you brother
I took yrs of theory classes. This is spot on. Also really helped me
Hey bro need help , I didn't understand here one thing ....
Cheers.
Thanks a lot, you're a great teacher
Steve i will be checking all your videos you have ever made in your entire life.
No one else manages to teach me musical theory successfully.
If I get rich I am 100% going to invest in starting a musical outreach program to at risk youth in your name.
How well explained everything!! Thank you so much sir. May God bless you!!😊💐
This man helped me out when I had no money to learn guitar and never looked down on me and now I can play like anyone thanks Steve

i always zoning out when im in lecture room
but i actually have attention for this guy
I did not understand this the first time I watched it. Then today I stumbled upon another creator who made a video about turning a major scale into chord progressions, and he mentioned the M-m-m-M-M-m-d formula without getting into the technical part yet. So I didn't understand that video as well. I remembered this video (vaguely; had to search for a little while) because of that formula, and now I am back here, simply amazed by these theories, how they all connect and are applied. I guess what I'm saying is thank you. Thanks to you and all the other creators here who are putting out content for us. Thank you. :)
Helo Sir ..,I'm a bit confused about forms of major and minor!say about whole and half steps.!?
Been playing for 50 years, and except for 2 years of classical lessons, mainly self taught. I had to watch this a couple of times but I definitely learnt a lot. Thank you. 😁👏🇦🇺
Thank you so much for this kind of video. I'm pretty much at this point in my guitar playing and its really helpful and informative having you present all this!
Ha Steve, i watch some of your videos your great. I'M 60 years old and been playin for 45 years and you are a great teacher. Bob G.
Thank you Bob!

You got it, and that's why most never make it past the basics
Learn both.

One day Steve, you're going to be the "Bob Ross" of guitar. Like him, even your hair is one of your trademarks. Thanks for all this!
I used to play guitar and became pretty good 'technically'. But I soon grew tired of blindly covering songs without understanding the theory behind those. And that was years ago ( med school happened and i graduated). Somehow i took my guitar once again and this time it would be better,i can feel it!
Thank you so much! Love from 'Bangladesh'!
thanks for the video! while watching, I kept thinking of the movie Tommy Boy "one and a HAAALF percent!"
This is so far the most straightforward and easily understandable theory lessons I ever took ! I think Steve deserves more credit for this one !
Thank you so much!
Bravo!
Great Video as always!! :)
nice profile pic \m/
Ramon Baez Haha Thx!
Your's too! xD
I am a beginner guitar player and of all the videos i've seen on youtube I find your videos very informative and detailed and best.
Boom! It's that easy! lol
But that's just a theory... A Music Theory!
thx for watching :)
Ayeeee! MatPat!!!
Lol
I see what you did there
A theory is the highest workable set of rules in a science.
Thank you Glenn.
I understand how to count the whole steps to get two, but im not understanding how you got 1 1/2 steps at all.
Because there are half steps in between the notes. You count in thirds:
C->D->E->F->G->A->B->C
You have half steps from the third to the forth and from the seventh to the eighth. That means:
C -> D = Fullstep (1)
D -> E = Fullstep (1)
E -> F = Halfstep (1/2)
F -> G = Fullstep (1)
G -> A = Fullstep (1)
A -> B =Fullstep (1)
B -> C =Halfstep (1/2)
Now the C Chord consist of C, E, and G. From C to E you have two Fullsteps, from E to G on the other hand one Fullstep and one Halfstep. That's why it's 2 over 1 & 1/2. You can convert this on all other Chords.
derKampfschimmel thank you, makes perfect sense now.
E-to-F and B-to-C are half steps. A-to-B, C-to-D, F-to-G, G-to-A are whole steps.
Because there are no sharps/flats in between B and C or E and F

I need to pay you for all this teaching. You make things so super simple and clear Steve ! You are absolutely my Godsend !
Steve is the best teacher in history. I can't tell you how much I have learned from him.

Wow, thank you!

The best person to teach is someone very knowledgeable who can break things down simply. Here is Mr. Steve.
My guitar teacher does an excellent job at explaining all this for me but you can only really cram so much into a 30 minute lesson and really make it stick! It's always good to get more of a lengthy explanation so thank you so much for these vids! Helping a lot cheers
You are most welcome!
I actually watch these videos to help me with the keyboard. He explains this stuff so that it is very simple. It helps me so much
Your teaching is so clear it makes me think other teachers are hiding the real stuff on purpose!
My freaking mind is blown. You are the coolest, best, and smartest teacher I have ever seen. THANK YOU!
Thank you
You are most welcome :-)
Wow! Gifted teacher. Captivating and easy to understand what you teach. Best guitar lesson I ever watched on TH-cam
