Easily the three best decades for music...although I really love the 90's too.
I just discovered you two today and I absolutely love you both. ❤️❤️ I’m 65 and saw LZ 4 times live. Once in the front row. I think that was 1974 and my ticket cost around $25. Those were the days of rock & roll. ❤️
Man it warms my heart to see young people looking back at the talent that was the 50's, 60's, and 70's. From Mo Town to Rock and Roll there is a whole World to discover. In those days all those rock groups didn't just sing, they wrote the songs, wrote the music, played the instruments, mixed the recordings, and even drove the damn bus to the shows. There was no bull shit "auto-tune" like today. Those people had talent, and they were deep into their style and had intellect. The songs tell amazing stories, and have deeper hidden meaning than any of the stuff today. Awesome response to this stuff you guys... LOVE IT!
For me the Song speaks of two different women. The woman mentioned in the beginning of the song "who knows (believes) that All That Glitters is Gold" symbolizes the materialist path and the woman at the end of the song "who shines white light and wants to show that everything still turns to gold" is the spiritual path and the song is saying there's still time to change the road you're on.
indeed she can show you the way to be a 'rock' and not to 'roll'. ie live your life with solid foundations of truth and harmony with the earth and you will be rewarded as opposed to buying artificial enlightenment, (weed and others), and trying to 'roll' your way into heaven and blowing 'rings of smoke' only to have your path wisped away on the whispering wind.
Hey. I'm 66 years old. I first heard this when I was in high school. I must have heard it 1000 times and it STILL brings chills and a tear to my eye. I loved watching your reactions while knowing what was still to come. As for the meaning of the lyrics, like everything musical, the meaning is whatever you get from it. There are no wrong answers. The "whistle" you mentioned is actually a "Recorder" - looks a bit like a clarinet but with no keys - just little holes. Glad to have stumbled on your vid. A joy to watch. The next best thing to hearing music is sharing it. Stay well.
Same here. I am about your same age. I actually never liked that song all that much at the time. Thought it was overproduced and a rip-off from Taurus (by Spirit). Zep was well-known to rip things off from people and not give them credit. But, as I was listening to this song, I felt the same way you did, e.g. knowing that drum break was coming, and knowing THEY didn't know that. It's a pretty dramatic break, for sure. I'd like to see them react to something by Cream, say Crossroads, or maybe even Toad, or a live version of Sunshine of Your Love. We had some outstanding music in our day for sure.
yeah but in a way i totally believe it... it goes to the greatness of the song. it could be 100 or 500 years old and this song will always stand strong
They absolutely do, though! You just gotta find it! Nightwish is musically and lyrically a masterpiece factory, and they're still going strong after more than 25 years now! Just released an incredible album this year, in fact!
Everybody thinks their generations music is the best. I love this song and many others from this era, but there are bands every bit and more talented now. They're just all underground bands because mainstream labels want to keep people dumbed down so they only push trash. But the real talent is in the independent scene.
@@TheJokesterSCR It's definitely better than today's main stream music. 70s 80s 90s were the absolute BEST in my opinion. And I do agree underground music is better in today's time BUT I will say nothing can touch the variety of these 3 decades.
It's funny but it's so off, she's rich and thinks she can buy her way into heaven. She thinks that the power that money conferred to her on Earth can buy her divinity. A gold digger just wants the money of others.
So much joy watching your concert of 2! Dave Grohl said the great thing about music is that you can sing a song to 85,000 people and they will sing it back to you for 85,000 different reasons. The song is about anything you think it is!
Y’all crack me up! I love how you both intensely listen to each note and each word. I love it when you get so excited about songs I’ve loved for years. You’ve interpreted songs I’ve been listening to for a lifetime and never really knew what they were about. It’s really cool you can appreciate music that was made before you were born and outside your preferred genre. Thank you! You both are lots of fun!
This song is literally banned from being played in guitar stores so it don’t become overplayed and also it just sounds too good they hear the shit 100 times a day
I'm 66 years old, played drums in rock bands 70's 80s. I played alot of the rock you guys are listening to. It's very exciting to see people enjoy this music as I did years ago. Keep it up! You two are awsome!!
When this album came out my Grandmother bought it....thinking it was a Christian album...😄. The next time we came to visit she says “This isn’t what I thought it was”....so she gave it to us!! We were THRILLED to have it.
For me, the singer is like a bard. He's telling us about a woman that tried to buy her way to Heaven. She didn't make it so her Heaven lies on the whispering wind. It's a cautionary tale.
It's about a woman who thinks that she can get whatever she wants because she is rich. The man singing is saying that he hates that about society. People thinking that they are better because they have something that someone else doesn't.
I'm 57 and getting a kick watching both of your reactions. Led Zeppelin is my favorite band, and I hope to see more of your videos to LZ. In the meantime, put the first album on, drop the needle into the groove, and listen.
One of my favourites!!! You got the meaning in a way Chris. The woman represents a society that is arrogant and materialistic. She believes she can buy anything, including her entry to Heaven. I would love for you guys to hang with this little old lady sometime and share an appreciation of some great tunes from my era
I learned how to play this on guitar except for the solo. It was just to hard. I always wanted to learn how t o play it. Its one of the hardest solos ever in rock and roll.
I haven't seen a reaction like this, it kind of reminds me of when us older people first heard it on the radio. We were like "what kind of magic is this?".
Lee Fithian sorry, but you mistakenly believe that sound systems back in the early 70’s were primitive when in fact most people had better sounding systems in the 70’s then the compressed digital music most people listen to today.
Ah , not ignorant , just pointing out that the tech today ( not the fucking iPod) can reproduce sound much the same as an 8K OLED monitor against a 480 resolution black n white tube television can reproduce films from that era , it’s fine that you appreciate , as do I what a good stereo back then did for lifting skirts
If you like S.I.B.L.Y....I highly recommend a version from LA in 1977 known as the Badge Holders version. Here is a link to the song and it includes the full 3 hour concert which is considered one of the best they ever did and even has a surprise appearance by a very drunk Kieth Moon 29:18
Not a gold digger, it's a picture of all of us trying to make it through life and find truth and we can make it into goodness if we change the road we're on. You guys are awesome. 67 year old here. Probably listened to this song hours and hours in my whole life. Peace!
Agree. I love this song because it's beautiful and draws you completely in, and then about halfway through, it's like they look at each other and think, "Wait, have we been Rock Gods yet? We should probably get on that..." and the song picks up from there.
I love their energy and willingness to be open to new things , and their desire to learn something new and unfamiliar ..and to really decipher the lyrics , not just focus on the sound alone....An epic video. Well done. Always keep an open mind ...And also , understand the deeper and hidden meaning behind everything..
I first heard this song at age 14 when it came out. I understood the Stairway to Heaven to be drugs, probably LSD or shrooms. All my friends thought the same thing. "Your head is hummin and it won't go..." This song came out when Tolkien's Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books became very popular with teenage readers, and the strings/recorders(whistle/flute sounds), and lyrics fed into the fantasy vibe.
Sounds like alchemy to me (gold references), and about an organisation ("she"), trying to use the secret Word to cheat their way into heaven, like the "queen of heaven" allegedly did. Also references to Lucifer ("the piper") and to "Jacob's ladder", and to the golden dawn. Obviously Aleister Crowley fans. Easy peasy..
@@jazzyboy7784 I don't see why it couldn't be interpreted that way too ("sometimes words have two meanings"), especially when you hear the "rings of smoke" part, which might sound like someone smoking something, but it turns out that rings of smoke over forests is an occult symbol that means that witchcraft is being practiced or something similar to that (at least so I read), like the one you see on the album cover, which would give a hint about the background and the intention behind at least that album. It is common for artists to make dual-meaning songs, so I assume the drug interpretation could be the exoteric one, and the one about the "secret" society (it's never been a secret that it exists) looking to be "like gods" (the alchemical allegory of turning something into gold) the esoteric one, because they were big fans of Aleister Crowley, and this song is filled with symbolism that reflects his beliefs.
I subscribed, and what I like about you guys is that 1. You appreciate musical skill and craftsmanship, and 2. You two look like you're really having fun together. You guys are an awesome couple, and that fun rubs off and I have a good time watching you two interact and appreciating stuff that I grew up with. Awesome, you two!
Watching someone listening to Stairway for the first time is one of life's pleasures. Beautiful....Thank you....Tom (as mentioned by a few others...earphones are a must)
@@nicholasratliff1734 "There are two paths you can go down" - the woman is ignoring the song's message and still trying to buy happiness. "Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?" To me the song is about (and part of) a spiritual path that is open to all who look for it. The woman represents the popular belief that happiness comes from material things.
This song is so important that I can vividly remember the first time I heard it. It was 1986, I was 4. Standing up (!!!!) in the passenger seat of my dad's car while he was driving somewhere. Didn't know it then, but that moment helped shape who I am today. Zepplin is still my favorite. Welcome to the club.
Absolutely love these kids appreciating what we grew up with. Not saying there are no talented artists anymore, but this was old school. People coming together, playing instruments with a passion and writing meaningful songs. With The Led it just all comes together.
I think there are still plenty of talented musicians. It’s just that the music industry has changed. Everything needs to be a hit. There is no room for the really great deep tracks that we had. There are no concept albums anymore. It’s all singles. If you don’t produce commercial hits, you get dropped from the label. The good music is out there, it’s just hard to find
Young folks like you discovering this music that has been such an important part of my life for decades makes it all new again! Thank you! Much respect! Much love!
My interpretation has always been that the "heaven" of being rich is an illusion, and the true heaven is the other path, toward being one with nature and humanity, more or less in line with the teachings of Buddha. Jimmy Page is a follower of mysticism and spirituality, so it makes sense. Of course, even Robert Plant said the song was open to multiple interpretations.
I like your reaction to one of my all time favourite songs of all time. I have a little story to share about Stairway to heaven, My Grandfather had put me through Royal conservatory classical piano as a child, I did fairly well but learned more contemporary music as I aged the one I can still play from heart is Stairway to heaven, although it doesn’t sound as rocked out as Led Zeppelin’s masterpiece it is still quite lengthy and has all the varying parts and tempos. My Grandfather had sadly been fighting various cancers and had not been given long to live he had decided to die at his home which he had built surrounded by his family instead of in the hospital hooked up to machines and alone, on the day I went to see him he was resting in the room with the piano I had played on since a child so I played him the only song I could remember by heart which happened to be Stairway to heaven, I was blessed to be able to remember and play for the Man who had allowed me that opportunity and every time I hear that song now it means something so much different to me,truly bought that stairway to heaven and it was worth all the gold.
It warms my heart to see brothers and sisters listening to these types of songs and genre. God bless both of you. Love your channel. Check us out sometime Peace !
Your channel is one to enjoy reaction videos the most you two dig right into the roots of rock and roll and understanding the lyrics of they mean and how the transitioning of songs change, it’s amazing for you guys to get right into it and it just puts a smile on my face to see you are enjoying it. Love you both to death. Keep bringing in more rock songs there’s more to come.
My generation of music. In 1973, this song was always popular for the last song of the after school sock hop. It’s wonderful to see new generations appreciate what real rock is. The incredible music which came out of the 1960s, 70s, 80s will live on.
I'm a middle aged white guy and grew up on this music. Between my two older brothers and my father..well everyday was like a concert at my home ad a kid, lol. Most young people today don't try "new" things not look to the past to learn or enjoy what had come before their time, let alone feel inspired to create their own art. That being said I LOVE YOU GUYS. I stumbled on your video of listening to Queen. I enjoyed you guys so much I watched another video. Then another. Then another. Keep up the great work. Stairway to Heaven is about a woman (actually anyone) who is searching for happiness. Her "heaven" if you will, but is looking for it through materialistic ways "all that glitters is gold..". I agree with you about the two roads, however the point of the last verse is (in my opinion) until we can love one another...learn from one another...live with one another...actually look to each other as our heavenly siblings (way I was raised) we will never find our stairway to heaven.
In this song, "heaven" is happiness and fulfillment. She thought that a life of wealth, material possessions and influence was the way to happiness. But money can't buy "heaven". The "piper" (God) is calling her to follow a different path. The singers says it's never too late to change from the road you're on. The lady FOLLOWS the singer on the other path. And as they "wind on down the road". The winding road of the righteous. They see a lady "we all know". The lady is HER! She shines white light. The light of TRUTH. She wants to show them the truth of how to get to "heaven". The truth is "All Are One, And One Is All". All are part of God and God is in everyone of us. The path to heaven is to be a ROCK in this truth. Not to roll with whatever fate throws your way. To stand firm in this truth ("To be a rock and not to roll). That's why the song ends "...and she's buying a stairway to heaven". She didn't buy it by chasing what she was in the beginning, she "bought" it by accepting The Truth. She made a winding journey through the forest of life until she accepted the Truth.
Crystal Lanagan...this song ain't about drugs! That's just stupid. I've heard the guys in the band talk about these lyrics for years....it never had anything to do with that subject. And Plant would have said so already if that were true. 🙄
This is English culture ,the May Queen is when the May tree comes into flower! the hedgerow is just in bud after the winter, so the hedgerow has been cleared of the old life ,flowers ,leaves, this is reference to leaving the old life! not hanging on to the past ,then you become the May Queen ,in Christianity the spotless bride, the May Queen was also a young woman, who is crowned in the estimation of the people from the local area , who represents beauty, particularly the attributes of what the month of May brings,so your sister? would be May queen.
Well I'm 65 and I never could figure out what this song means (plus it's soooo boring). It does sound like she's a golddigger. It really is just a bunch of gibberish for fame, like so much of Jim Morrison's music.

🤘
It's the only recorded instance of a Recorder sounding good.
It's hard to believe this song will be 50 years old next year.
(Doubletake)whhhhaaaaaaaaat????
So will I!
I'm well over 50 now. I'm at the point that I can remember over 50 years.
yeah but in a way i totally believe it... it goes to the greatness of the song. it could be 100 or 500 years old and this song will always stand strong
@@bjenkin100 just... time FLEW!!!!
First released in 1971 and still as fresh today as it was then, you never get tired of this masterpiece it takes you to another dimension.
They don't make music like this anymore. I grew up during the best days for music!
The best music era of all time.
@@TheJokesterSCR
It's definitely better than today's main stream music. 70s 80s 90s were the absolute BEST in my opinion. And I do agree underground music is better in today's time BUT I will say nothing can touch the variety of these 3 decades.

"That's a gold diggin' ass bitch!" Best comment EVER about this song!!!!
I was seriously crying when he said that 😂 This is one of the most fun reaction videos ever haha.
Lmao..me too. That was great
It's funny but it's so off, she's rich and thinks she can buy her way into heaven.
Well said!
The whole time I was thinking, wait until they get to the last verse 😂
You have discovered why they are called "The Hammer of The Gods"
Ha. Immigrant Song! Peace Mike. Stay safe.
Wtf, no one call em that way
I am in my 50s and i never thought i would see so many kids rockin out like this. Damn! Love it. Rock on yall
Stairway To Heaven is one of the crown jewels of rock n roll, and should be on everyone's top 10 list...If it isn't, then listen again!
I've listen to this song hundreds of times and it still giving me goosebumps.♥️
This song climbs its own stairway to musical heaven, one step at a time; through instruments and vocals !!
This song is literally banned from being played in guitar stores so it don’t become overplayed and also it just sounds too good they hear the shit 100 times a day
Page, Plant, Jones, and Bonham were all unique talents. This song was their masterpiece. RIP John Bonham.

Deep
But seriously there are generations of bards who cry everytime this song is heard. It's like the magnum opus of the craft.
You're right. I never knew the meaning. The only way to Heaven is through the grace of God and one's obedience to His commands.
@@davidpost428 wrong... It's what jesus said
It's about a woman who thinks that she can get whatever she wants because she is rich. The man singing is saying that he hates that about society. People thinking that they are better because they have something that someone else doesn't.
I requested this song (and Free Bird) to be played at my husband’s funeral. I still tear up hearing it.
These bands were famous for a reason..... still 50 plus years later

I dunno, Zeppelin is a German word after all, and the way Chris says it is pretty close to a proper German pronunciation.
I'm 57 and getting a kick watching both of your reactions. Led Zeppelin is my favorite band, and I hope to see more of your videos to LZ. In the meantime, put the first album on, drop the needle into the groove, and listen.

You got the meaning in a way Chris. The woman represents a society that is arrogant and materialistic. She believes she can buy anything, including her entry to Heaven.
I would love for you guys to hang with this little old lady sometime and share an appreciation of some great tunes from my era
You guys are adorable. When I was a teenager every guy I knew that could hold a guitar learned how to play this.
I learned how to play this on guitar except for the solo. It was just to hard. I always wanted to learn how t o play it. Its one of the hardest solos ever in rock and roll.
I play guitar and in a music store it's considered one of the forbidden riffs
@Tiger Tamer exactly lol. Ive been playing 10 years and still don't know it. Its pretty yeah but people act like that's as good as guitar gets.

zakk19777 yes indeed, it is a cardinal sin to play it in record shops.
I haven't seen a reaction like this, it kind of reminds me of when us older people first heard it on the radio. We were like "what kind of magic is this?".
you misspelled 'sorcery'
The sound systems available were quite primitive , which made the live performances much more memorable
Exactly
Lee Fithian sorry, but you mistakenly believe that sound systems back in the early 70’s were primitive when in fact most people had better sounding systems in the 70’s then the compressed digital music most people listen to today.
Ah , not ignorant , just pointing out that the tech today ( not the fucking iPod) can reproduce sound much the same as an 8K OLED monitor against a 480 resolution black n white tube television can reproduce films from that era , it’s fine that you appreciate , as do I what a good stereo back then did for lifting skirts
“Since I’ve Been Loving You” is my favorite Zep song.
“You Shook Me” will melt your eardrums.
Achilles Last Stand too.
Good Times Bad Times for that classic Zep!!! And they would probably dig the lyrics being some young folks.
Thanks !
Spot on especially the live version
Not a gold digger, it's a picture of all of us trying to make it through life and find truth and we can make it into goodness if we change the road we're on.

She has a point about materialism - I see the song about materialism vs spiritualism
“If you try to discredit this band then your mind is probably in hell” is maybe the most legit thing I’ve ever heard.
When the change up was coming I was like "mind blown in...3...2...1..."
Me too! I was waiting for their reactions!!!
It was Beautiful to Behold 🥰
Agree. I love this song because it's beautiful and draws you completely in, and then about halfway through, it's like they look at each other and think, "Wait, have we been Rock Gods yet? We should probably get on that..." and the song picks up from there.
Yeah that was fun! :)
I am sitting here being a bit smug knowing they are going to be very surprised with how it goes.
"Your head is hummin and it won't go..."
This song came out when Tolkien's Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books became very popular with teenage readers, and the strings/recorders(whistle/flute sounds), and lyrics fed into the fantasy vibe.
“If this ain’t a vibe then what isn’t?” Best description of Stairway. Love you guys. NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN Moody Blues long version.

RJ Meza lol on second thought I think it is
It's incredible to think that this song is nearly 50 years old. (It'll be fifty next year!) It'll last as long as recorded music exists.
If you can interpret. Contact Robert Plant. He's still trying to figure out the meaning to Stairway to Heaven.
I think they figured it out. To be a rock and not to roll
I always thought it's was about buying drugs and overdosing...but wtf do I know...lol.
Lol
In an interview with Jimmy Page, he said Robert Plant wrote 80% of lyrics while listening to the melody for the first time.
Always a favorite. Often misunderstood, but this song is about the spiritual path.
I thought it’s about dropping two hits of acid at a 12th grade party and listening to this song seven times on headphones. But what do I know.

@@nicholasratliff1734 "There are two paths you can go down" - the woman is ignoring the song's message and still trying to buy happiness. "Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?" To me the song is about (and part of) a spiritual path that is open to all who look for it. The woman represents the popular belief that happiness comes from material things.

Going to California kills me every time I hear it. Love it so much!
I just like the reactions when “that” part of the song comes in. Led Zeppelin isn’t just music, it’s an experience, it’s a whole damn mood
Same man. I think that get's pretty clear if you think about the Tolkien references in the lyrics.
Jimmy Page is a satanist.

Jimmy Page, the guitarist and founder of the band, called their sound "whispering to the thunder."

My generation of music. In 1973, this song was always popular for the last song of the after school sock hop. It’s wonderful to see new generations appreciate what real rock is. The incredible music which came out of the 1960s, 70s, 80s will live on.
This is probably the most played song in rock history. Spent decades (literally) on the charts. The all time winner.
On the radio it seems to win every year for best rock song around here
I'm a middle aged white guy and grew up on this music.
She made a winding journey through the forest of life until she accepted the Truth.
well said
This song is about drugs. She thought by doing drugs she was in heaven. A lot of these older songs like this is all about drugs.
I thought the piper was temptation, in reference to the folktale. Here's someone who is trying to lead you astray.
