This solo is considered the greatest rock solo of all time...I think the live performance at MSG in 1973 is incredible as well; you get to see Jimmy Page play the "Double Neck Guitar" - by the way, it isn't an acoustic guitar, but a 12-string and 6-string electric guitar pieced together into the iconic "Double Neck" - you really get to see the way in which the song is put together and Plant is incredible live along with Bonzo with his drum fills and JPJ playing the recorder and using his foot pedals for the bass...when I was a kid and this song came out, i thought it was a flute...just how incredible these four musicians are and were...simply the best

Ladies and Gentleman, right here is what the world needs a lot more of. Two people from a completely different country, culture, religion, appearance, and politics who put all that aside- as do those of us watching it- and we all are just sharing a love a great music and the fun of watching someone else enjoy it. Music brings us together like nothing else can.. Its so refreshing to see this people from the middle east hear and enjoy American music and none of us care about all those other things the news keeps telling us are differences and problematic. You guys are great, thanks for doing this and sharing it with the world and me!

I’m almost 65 years old. This was the first album I bought that wasn’t the Beatles. Stairway To Heaven is musical masterpiece in every sense. It changes (increases) tempo 3 times which gives it a completely different feeling 3 times. Unheard of. Genius. That’s just not done. I don’t think it’s ever been done since. The lyrics are an introspective examination of the meaning of life. I never knew anyone who didn’t spend a little time thinking about the meaning of life after listening to this song. After all these years it still moves me the way it did the first time I heard it. And now it’s moving a 3rd generation. For that, I want to say thank you. You are why rock and roll will never die. That guitar solo is at least top 5 all time. And the song as a whole. It’s hard to say that any 1 song is the greatest of all time because there are probably 8 or maybe 10 that you could make a case for. But this one is most certainly the cream of the crop. It’s important to understand that there were no beats or samples or auto tune back then. Every single note was played and recorded by hand in analog. The first personal computers wouldn’t exist for another 20 or 25 years and they wouldn’t be powerful enough to run the software that also wouldn’t exist for yet another 15 years. This is a truly magnificent achievement. I hope you continue to discover and enjoy all of the great rock music. There’s a lot out there. If I may make 2 suggestions. Always listen to the studio album version 1st. That’s as close to what the artist intended as it’s possible to get. Live performances are really only great if you happened to be there in that moment. With a few very rare exceptions. Now, if you want to hear something really cool, listen to Carnival, by Natalie Merchant, from the album Tiger Lilly. Natalie Merchant is another genius besides being stunningly beautiful. But the thing that sets this song apart is the guitar, played by Jennifer Turner. The lyrics and the vocals are spectacular too, but the guitar work is just…well…I just don’t have the words to adequately describe it. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever heard. Enjoy. Much love 😊❤

It's not possible to hear a song again for the first time so seeing the reaction from other people to a 52 year oild song that still holds a power to amaze is incredible. Led Zep set a template for other bands to followof a slow burn song to a rock out and I don't think Bohemian Rhapsody would exist without this song. The group were worried that their fans were buying their albums just on their name so they released this without the band details on the album so the songs were appraised purely on merit. I think you should try War Pigs by Black Sabbath, a heavy rock and heavy lyrics song.

One of the purest reactions to Stairway To Heaven that I have seen.
This one is a saver. New subscriber. Stay real, and ... keep on r'actin .
Oh -- don't put "Rock and Roll" in a box.
There is so much of a range in rock. Soft Rock.
Heavy Metal [ not the devil crap ]. Southern Rock. Even "Pop" can be Rock. Especially Pop from the 60's through the 90's. There is also Country Rock. All genres of music are great, for the most part. Good music is good music.
There are extremes that don't even qualify as music. But in general, real music is beautiful.
Disco was frowned upon back in the 70's when I was a teen. It wasn't "cool." I even gave away my "Saturday Night Fever" album because it was full of disco. And I NEVER gave away one of my albums. Not from my coveted album collection. But I felt "uncool" owning a disco album. Of course, now the songs from the disco era are considered good music.
Because they are. The Bee Gees are an incredible band, and they were prominent during the disco era. But The Bee Gees wrote and performed music that fit in multiple genres.
Y'all have a bottomless pit to dig into as far as the amount of great music there is out there to react to. And while the 70's are the best decade of modern music -- hands down -- check out the songs anywhere from the 50's up to and including the 90's.
Of course, the music from 2000 until now has some great stuff. And there are bands and solo artists who recently have been putting out some good 'ol R&R and Pop music. Real talent is still out there.

The effect with the left and right fade is bc FM radio was in its infancy. Groups would use this for added pleasure to the listener.

I still remember the first time I heard this song, I must've been around 12 or 13 years old. My mom was into the "oldies" station, so I was well versed in 1950's and 1960's music. Then one night I slept at my cousin's house. The next day we were hanging outside and his older brother pulls up in his Chevy Luv. He had the radio on and this started blasting through the speakers! Every note was pure gold!

Great reaction, Carol and Elie! I have listened to this song thousands of times for past 50 years and it is just as sublime on every listen as the first time. I typically would not recommend a live version of this song, although LZ did it really well in live performances, and I would definitely never recommend a cover of any LZ song. However, there is one live cover version of this song that the band Heart did for the Kennedy Center honors where the remaining members of Led Zeppelin were being honored and the drums for Heart were being played by Jason Bonham, John Bonham's (Bonzo's) son, that is a treat that you should give yourselves. Continue enjoying your LZ journey, no bad songs ahead

Thank you for doing my pick! So happy that on first listen, you saw the magnitude of this great song! Many would have told you to listen to the live version first but back in 1971 those of us that are as old as me heard it first on the radio and really got to know it, an absolute masterpiece of a song done in the studio. Now you can go have your fun and watch it live from 1973 Madison Square Garden… And I was privileged to be at that show July 29, 1973!… you are only three songs into Zeppelin, you have way more to discover!

Ed, thank you for having them react to the studio version first. I think every song should be heard first as the studio version, the one we all listened to on our stereos and radios back when they first came out. Cheers.

It really means a lot to us 🙏🙏 we'll definitely keep digging more into the rabbit hole because it's very intriguing especially since we're not really expert in the rock/heavy metal genre so it's kinda new to us and we're glad our viewers such as yourself are enjoying the listening experience with us ❤️ Appreciate it❤️

Thank you for insisting on the studio version. While the famous live ("can anyone remember laughter..?") is a great way to show LZ's stage presence, both the sound quality and the solo are inferior. It's an interesting addition for when you already know the song as it should be known (that's why they recorded it in the studio this way, no?). Good call!

Now watch Ann and Nancy Wilson of HEART do this song at the Kennedy Center with Led Zeppelin watching them perform. The drummer is the son of the late John Bonham who was the drummer for Led Zeppelin. Very emotional and Ann kills the vocals. You will be pleased.

This song was everything back in 1972 when I and millions of others were in high school. The song itself can mean whatever you think it means, but in the end, it speaks of being a rock and not to roll. It means to me that your nature and who you are, are at risk with the two paths you may choose. You have time, but as he said in the live version, "I hope so!" The end is always near so you have to decide between yourself and God and do it soon, because we are taught to accept God before we die.

Such an amazing song. The music, oh what a sweet build up, frantic swirl, and magical conclusion. The lyrics MUST be listened to many times for it to slowly sink in. It is imagery and poetry, not thinking. A seduction of the ears, a teasing of the heart, and a mystery for the mind.

Thank you, I grew up watching and listening to them. For just a few dollars we could get in to see The Who, The Doors, and other greats at the "Whisky A GOGO" in Hollywood and "The Golden Bear" in Huntington Beach. It was a great time to live, and have fun. "Love you guys." Oh, and a bit of trivia: Whisky is spelled without the "e" because California law did not allow places to use alcohol in their name..!

An old coot here. It truly makes me happy to see young people discovering this music. Music that honestly defined my life. And there's a lot of that kind of music: Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, ...(reaction limit reached 😛). Anyway, I'm just venting how jealous I am looking at you discovering this music. I still remember listening to this song and getting zoned out. God, how I miss this feeling.
And to make you feel 'bad', I have seen most of the concerts live.
Buuut, please do enjoy!!! (and make us old coots happy 🙂).

ABSOLUTELY agree on using the studio vrsion for first listen of this song. I saw 3 of the 5 Led Zepplin shows at Earl's Court in London in 1975, and the film production of this song just never came out that well. Use the live versions for some of the faster paced songs, like "Black Dog"; "Immigrant Song"; "Dazed and Confused", etc.

Page said it's about a musical progression, with heavy Celtic/pagan undertones... Plant wrote the lyrics leaning against a wall, Page wrote the melody, and JPJ added the flute and harmony... It's the kind of song where you close your eyes and set out on an amazing journey of the mind. Pretty damn good for a bunch o' white boys...
