    I just want to thank you for this video. I have been working on my 2018 Silverado with 60,000 miles 5.3. The truck had intermittent overheating because of a stuck thermostat I replaced every single thing I can possibly think of, and no matter what it kept overheating. I finally did this and it’s freaking perfect. Thank you so much Hailey spent three weeks back-and-forth trying to figure this out. Thank you again!🎉

    Very good video. Did my R & R of the radiator today. I did a slightly different method of filling the radiator. I did leave the top hose connected to the thermostat housing, and did fill it as you said. I found that a piece of 3/4" flexible electrical conduit slipped into the top hose outlet on the radiator with a snug, leak free fit. Filled the radiator till coolant just came out, then slipped the pre-filled top hose on quickly. I think your way of filling the radiator is the best way. Thanks again.

    I have a 2004 Silverado z71 that was overheating due to a stuck thermostat( lower hose cold- no coolant running through it). Changed the thermostat, replenish coolant through the expansion tank and overheating continued. I noted that there was no heat coming out of the vents event though the temp gauge was reaching almost to its hottest and at this point I knew there was a blockage issue or the water pump was bad. I got a coolant testing kit from the auto part store and system held pressure. At this point I was about to pursue the replacing of the water pump when I saw this video. To be honest, I didn’t have much faith on this procedure but I went ahead and refilled the system as directed in this video. My overheating problem got fixed !!!! Definitely try this before getting to more expensive/complicated repairs.

    Alright guys if any of you have tried this and your upper hose gets really hot and boils still. Make sure your thermostat is good and if that checks out and you are certain that you don’t have any clogs. Try unplugging the intake hose on the heater core. I was having so many issues with my upper hose over heating and it would start getting too hot because I had air in my system. I tried doing this like 4 times and when I took the hose off my heater core it literally blew off so much air pressure out I instantly had a feeling that was my culprit. Plugged it back in and started her up and sure enough the car drank the rest of the coolant it needed to bleed out the rest of the air .

  • @fieldnegro5620
    @fieldnegro5620 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Is that what you would consider burp the system or just refill it

  • @followerofchrist1961
    @followerofchrist1961 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    Hello, at what point would you add the coolant in the resovior? And after the procedure, would I need to start the truck and turn the heat on to bleed the air even further? A couple years ago I replaced every bit of my cooling system and forgot to the bleed the system, no issues overheating, but I noticed that when the winter time comes, the heat will work for a couple of minutes and then get cold, then back hot again. I assume this is an air pocket.

    Ok- so to back fill with coolant I am disconnecting the hose from the radiator and pouring it directly into the motor? Is that correct? I've been fighting my system for 5 days. Also, just to ensure I do this correctly, I am making sure the motor is cold when I do this? Correct?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct. If the engine is hot it could burn you and will spray everywhere from the pressure. Yes, Pour into the hose so it goes directly into the radiator, and have the expansion tank off so it can flow without pressure.
