@@phillhansen7238 The idea is that the people you don't want to see out on the trail typically don't go to effort of researching an area. For everyone complaining, I’d like to share a story that I just told another commenter. The only reason these trails are so nice is because they are upkept by riders like this guy and the trail names aren’t put on blast… there’s this one 4x4 trail near where I went to college called firetower and it’s extremely popular. It has always been popular but at least you needed an high clearance off-road rig for the front and back trail to the summit. Then my 3rd year they gravel paved and filled in the entire frontside trail to where a Subaru could make it up there. People started talking about it a lot and it was packed up there whenever I went. I can sadly tell you that nowadays the firetower at the top is completely trashed by idiots and you can see they bring their guns and paintball guns to plink at the tower. Beer and trash left everywhere, fences cut open. It got so bad that the park service actually gated off the main enterance to the peak and you need to take a EXTREMELY rugged side rout to get through and drive to the summit. People are lazy and don’t like walking 100 feet so that cut back on the traffic a bit. There’s a reason the people who enjoy these trails don’t blast them online.
Yesterday I went on an ATV trail in Idaho, and I had to cut at least 10 trees out of the trail. I have a TW200, and I would never take that bike where I went yesterday! Soooooo many rocks, the loose ones AND the embedded ones made for a tough ride. I actually came very close to going over backwards with my Polaris Trail 570. That scared me. I actually have a Ryobi 18 volt 12" chain saw that I can carry on my TW200. I made a holder for my rear rack. You go so fast. I do not go fast on either my quad or my TW. Momentum is king in most places, but you can have momentum without speed, like you did with the roots. I am 77 years old, so that may have something to do with the speed thing, although, even when I was younger, I was not very fast. The only time that I did well on a 100 mile cross-country was if the route was hard. Unlike some of the trails that you ride, I think that I could do this one on my TW. I love that little bike. 99% of the riding that I do is alone, so I always have my PLB (Personal Locater Beacon) with me. Do you ride with one of those? Crap happens, one minute you are cruising along, and the next you are trapped under your bike. Happened to me, I think that I told you about it on another video. Nice video. I especially love the drone shots. The front fender camera shots, not so much.
I'm glad you liked the video! I'm not surprised you had so much deadfall. Idaho has had a huge amount of downed trees this season.. I try to find my max speed and then take it down a couple notches so that I can keep control of the bike. That TW would be PERFECT on this trail!! Technical riding is the great equalizer for fast riders. I always always carry a Garmin In-Reach which allows me to send messages and call a helicopter if necessary. I always carry it in an accessible location just in case what happened to you happens to me!!
@@madjack_757 Yea, that was so scary. I would have taped out, but I would feel bad for dragging out Search and Rescue just to lift the bike off my leg. I carry mine in my hydration pack, so if the bike or quad goes over a cliff, hopefully I am not with it. LOL I do most of my riding within 150 miles of Pocatello, but I will keep that trail on my bucket list.
@@mechcavandy986 Why not? Might come in handy. I have an "Optimate" battery charge indicator installed on all of my battery started toys, and a plus to having the battery charge monitored, I have a 12 volt power plug at the top of it. I can power up to a 10 amp device, and I can plug my battery charger into it too.
Can you still make it out to the crashed plane or no? I know you said the bike can’t make it but I still don’t quite understand why. Thanks and great video!
Yeah you definitely still can! It would just be a long walk in my moto boots cuz I would have had to walk around the whole lake and I didn’t feel up to that challenge 😂😂
Does your drone just follow you the whole time or do you launch it at the specific spots you want? Also how do you manage your gopro batteries (like knowing when they're low or stop recording). I want to get into some amateur ADV content to show my friends and family. Love your vids and commentary!
I launch it and have it follow where I want it to. I usually pack loads of batteries too. Also I have a dual usb port mounted on my bars to supplement charging drone and GoPro batteries and whatnot while I ride. Usually when I pause to fly my drone I will swap out batteries on my GoPros. I’m stoked you like the videos! I hope that info helps too!!
I feel very blessed and I likely will see my grand kids born here. It is a very rugged place though, and many parts of the state (like this one) see pretty tough winters. Gotta make use of the sunshine while we got it!! I definitely like to get back into some of the more remote areas, so I do often trailer the 501 to trailheads a couple hours away from me.
Thanks! Welcome back to the riding community 👊🏼 This region can be everything from expert level to pretty mellow. This particular trail for me is about a 5.5/10 or maybe a 6/10. That being said, if you ride too early into the season out here, bring a chainsaw or be good at hopping over logs. Early season conditions can turn this trail into a 8.5/10. You ought to try riding out there mid summer-fall and when it is fall, the colors are fantastic!
Do you carry an emergency gps system for riding solo or otherwise? If so any recommendations? I want to do more solo riding but want to feel covered if shit really hits the fan.
It depends on how I’m feeling about the terrain. My pack weighs about 35 pounds with all my gear so it’s tough to stand for a super long time. I have over 200 hours and 5000 plus miles on the 501 🤙🏼
I've heard about this. I want to go SO bad, but it's too far south for me to be able to handle it right now. I can't really ride my current bike that far, and I don't have a vehicle reliable enough to make it, but one day for sure!
Its in a somewhat remote part of Northern leaning Central Idaho. It'd be a bit of drive, but its worth it. I often drive far to trails just because I want to get decently far into the woods to film!
@@Jimboslice425 I hear ya dude! When I first got my mic I was still shouting in my helmet so that the gopro internal mic could pick it up and then I was like woah okay okay no more shouting with the new mic lol
Who flies the drone when you are riding? Another great video, live in the Lewiston area and used to do a lot of trail riding up in the Laird Park area.
@@madjack_757 it was my favorite spot, we would do about a 50 mile loop, would take about 3 1/2 hours. Come from a motocross background and liked the higher speeds, it was about 1/3 fire road, 1/3 double track and 1/3 single track. Not really into the super technical single track, or atleast not a lot of it, so it was nice in that regard. There could be more single track there, but never sought it out, heard there was some pretty demanding single track up the road farther around the old North-South Ski Bowl.
@westernbikers I’d recommend the mini 3 pro. It’s a class 1 drone and as long as you aren’t making money off the production, you don’t need to license with the FAA. In this instance I was flying a class 2 drone, but the mini 3 pro has been a primary tool for a long time for me and it’s a class 1.
Deadfall often occurs from natural causes. Each year the same trail has to be cut again and again from new deadfall trees. Additionally, the elevation and region I am in has thinner trees.
Anyone know of cool sites like this in Florida? I'd love to find some remnants of a bygone era here, especially abandoned aircraft. But I'm not aware of anything this secluded.

Not at all. Idaho forests are very 'wild' in the sense that natural elements are always changing the area. Each year the winter carves away weaker trees and leaves behind large amounts of deadfall. Up in more alpine areas, the trees become more of these tall lanky/skinny trees as opposed to the more wider trunked ones. Idaho has alot of burn areas too from wild fires and this area has seen plenty of fire. Tho when you look at the base of the forest, it is COVERED with fresh growth trees. Fun fact- pine cones require fire to open their seed pods and plant new trees!
amazing that these trails are just open for motorbikes - you lucky people, for us to have that here it would have to be completely 'illegal' - i hate that term as the land really is for us all but we know how local gvt are - scums
The Northwest USA has some phenomenal woods riding trails but there are always groups trying to shut down trail access. I actually write letters to senators over this stuff to ensure the gov has OHV access in mind when theyre making decisions. I have one more video from the Utah series coming out eventually that gives some insight into the shady things that BLM has been doing to close trails. The forest service is no better either..
People that watch this need to learn not to share important information on trail location. Pretty sure this trail will probably be closed in a couple years.
Exactly why I don’t share certain trail names 🤙🏼 I don’t think it’s gonna be closed and if it does I’ll fight it. I was writing letters to our senators and BLM over the owyhees.

Yeah it's a pretty mellow trail going the direction I did. I ought to do another video next season going the opposite direction.
@@madjack_757 you should. I do A LOT of research before I ride. I really de alone and really haven’t rode for long. I can handle knar tho. I just ride slow in it. lol.
Thank you for telling this story 🙏🏼
It seems like with what your ride it would be easier going with a 350. Have you wanted to try a 350 vs your 500?
Yeah I have thought about those 350s. I like them a lot and they have awesome power. I still love the way big bore motors feel though. I love my 501.
What drone are you using? It seems to follow you really well. 👍
In this video it’s the Mavic 3 classic 🤙🏼
LOL
I do most of my riding within 150 miles of Pocatello, but I will keep that trail on my bucket list.
I’m 71 and ride a KTM 690 Enduro R alone in the Ozarks of Arkansas alone. I need one of those!
@@BuilderofRatI NEVER put my phone on my bike!
Litterly amazing
Really digging your videos! You mentioned running 13psi in your tires. Are you running conventional tubes or are you running Tubliss?
Thanks! I run heavy duty tubes in my Motoz tires and I am yet to have a flat.
I AGREE !!! those MEN who work on that trail and any trail THANKS !!!!
You're so damn fortunate to live in this area of the country. Do you trailer your bike to these trails?
I feel very blessed and I likely will see my grand kids born here. It is a very rugged place though, and many parts of the state (like this one) see pretty tough winters. Gotta make use of the sunshine while we got it!!
I definitely like to get back into some of the more remote areas, so I do often trailer the 501 to trailheads a couple hours away from me.
Is that the Salmon river? Looks amazing nice riding.
I don’t believe it’s the salmon, but I think it feeds into the salmon!
Awesome video!! Just got back into riding after about 8yr hiatus. This ride is on the top of my list this year. How would you rate the difficulty?
Thanks! Welcome back to the riding community 👊🏼
This region can be everything from expert level to pretty mellow.
I carry both a garmin in reach to communicate with the outside world and I also carry a garmin zumo gps!
Nice videos and nice bike !
About how much of your trail riding is done standing up on your pegs?
How many hours and miles have you logged on your Husqvarna FE501s?
It depends on how I’m feeling about the terrain. My pack weighs about 35 pounds with all my gear so it’s tough to stand for a super long time.
I have over 200 hours and 5000 plus miles on the 501 🤙🏼
I would love being up there riding , excellent trail 👍
I've heard about this. I want to go SO bad, but it's too far south for me to be able to handle it right now. I can't really ride my current bike that far, and I don't have a vehicle reliable enough to make it, but one day for sure!
Someday you gotta make the trek and try to find the plane! Theres a whole bunch of cool stuff down here dude!
@@madjack_757 Hell yeah! I still got a ton of cool stuff to explore up here in north idaho though.
Love the scenery 👍
What drone are you using to do the autonomous follow cams?
I have two DJI mini 3 pros and a mavic 3 classic 🤙🏼
@@madjack_757which one do you prefer?
What part of Idaho? Anywhere near Briggs?
Its in a somewhat remote part of Northern leaning Central Idaho. It'd be a bit of drive, but its worth it. I often drive far to trails just because I want to get decently far into the woods to film!
What Dual Sport Tyres are you running ?
Motoz Tractionator H/Ts! I seriously need a new set tho cuz I am runnin them wayyy down
What motorcicle you have? Thank You!
Husqvarna fe501s 🤙🏼
What is the name of this trail?? 😮
Nice video quality, need a 2 stroke , sounds like your riding a street bike.
Thanks. I ride a fe501s dual sport so that I can do adventure rides too.
bro how r u getting these drone like shots without damaging ur drone?
All tricks of the trade brotha 🤟🏼
Very nice track!!
🤟🏼🤟🏼
What are you using for a mic setup while riding?
A pretty generic mic you can find online. I run it into the foam inside the helmet to avoid heavy breathing noises.
@@madjack_757 thanks! I have just been relying on the GoPro mic for my videos but it doesn’t pick up my voice well enough while riding.
@@Jimboslice425 I hear ya dude! When I first got my mic I was still shouting in my helmet so that the gopro internal mic could pick it up and then I was like woah okay okay no more shouting with the new mic lol
@@madjack_757 I have to just commit and get a mic and proper editing software haha
Thats how it starts.. Before you know it, you'll be so deep into camera gear hahahahaha
No shortage of firewood in Idaho apparently...
Pretty country out there.
what tires are you using?
Motoz Tractionator H/Ts
Who flies the drone when you are riding?
Another great video, live in the Lewiston area and used to do a lot of trail riding up in the Laird Park area.
I am actually flying the drone or have it programmed to follow in certain ways!
I’ve never ridden up there what’s it like?
@@madjack_757 it was my favorite spot, we would do about a 50 mile loop, would take about 3 1/2 hours. Come from a motocross background and liked the higher speeds, it was about 1/3 fire road, 1/3 double track and 1/3 single track. Not really into the super technical single track, or atleast not a lot of it, so it was nice in that regard. There could be more single track there, but never sought it out, heard there was some pretty demanding single track up the road farther around the old North-South Ski Bowl.
@@madjack_757 I am looking for a drone with the same capabilities without going overboard on the money. Any suggestions?
@westernbikers I’d recommend the mini 3 pro. It’s a class 1 drone and as long as you aren’t making money off the production, you don’t need to license with the FAA. In this instance I was flying a class 2 drone, but the mini 3 pro has been a primary tool for a long time for me and it’s a class 1.
@@madjack_757 Thanks! So the mini 3 pro can be programmed to follow me and avoid obstacles as I ride?
why those trees are down?
a bit surprised to see all these trees let everywhere on ground. lots cut, not really from cleaning the track....? they even seem rather young
Deadfall often occurs from natural causes. Each year the same trail has to be cut again and again from new deadfall trees. Additionally, the elevation and region I am in has thinner trees.
I’m confused, if he’s riding who was operating the drone?
me believe it or not hahaha. In certain instances I have it follow me.
Anyone know of cool sites like this in Florida? I'd love to find some remnants of a bygone era here, especially abandoned aircraft. But I'm not aware of anything this secluded.
hey man, what kind of camera do you use on your fender? and another question, how do you record your voice? the video was awesome btw, i watched the entire thing the whole way through!
Stoked you liked the video man! Fender cam is a GoPro max and I have a recording studio for narrations and then I run a mic in my helmet for helmet audio 🤙🏼

@madjack_757 sure I will, I like your videos. Cinematography is great.
I have to remember, I dont know how to actually ride.......

I hope you are more careful. You could have been in an accident and the results could have been painful
Please.. as a viewer following you, I felt worried.. you are there to have fun, why rush in some places... I just fear for you and I know that you are capable and can drive efficiently... but please always make safety a priority... 💐
The scenery is stunning and very beautiful...😃👏🏻 but at the same time very painful... When I saw thousands of trees torn apart on the sides of the tarpaulin, I felt pain... Was this done intentionally? Were the trees cut down intentionally or is it just that?
Finally, the view of the plane... I wished you had lowered the drone a little... so we could see clearer pictures... a story worth telling despite its pain...
Greetings to you from Saudi Arabia...🇸🇦🌴
stay safe and careful..
Greetings to your honorable person...new subscriber👍🏻🙂
It seems the forest has been destroyed. so sad about that
Run a steering damper?
I've thought about it, but its currently not the top priority upgrade. It could be pretty beneficial tho.
You can walk along the left side of lake to the plane, we did it in riding boots.
Yeah I’ve done it before too, I was just wanting to save a bit of time 😂
By the looks of it it was good idea too cuz the water level was up high!
Was that the c river trail?
I run 12 psi in my ktm 250 tires
I have a feeling that you might blow up my TH-cam main page
amazing that these trails are just open for motorbikes - you lucky people, for us to have that here it would have to be completely 'illegal' - i hate that term as the land really is for us all but we know how local gvt are - scums
Exactly why I don’t share certain trail names 🤙🏼
I don’t think it’s gonna be closed and if it does I’ll fight it. I was writing letters to our senators and BLM over the owyhees.
You actually making enough to pay for gas with these videos yet? And are you using super wide view on the chin mounted camera?
