GBO2 RX-0 Phenex (NT): It's stronger than the Unicorn?!

- This video is a recent custom match I had with the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Phenex on Gundam Battle Operation 2. It is a 700 cost general with insanely powerful shooting, powerful NT-D melee like Unicorn, high mobility, team heal ability and a barrier like Moon Gundam. I think it is fair to say that the Phenex has no notable weaknesses or downsides. It feels more complicated than the Unicorn or Banshee due to its toolkit being harder to use, but it feels like it combines the strengths of both Moon Gundam and Unicorn Gundam while turning them up to 11. I am still learning how to use all of its weapons and skills to the fullest but this match still went amazingly. I hope that you enjoy watching!
The primary weapon of the Phenex is a beam magnum with 3600 power, 5 ammo, 350m range, 6 seconds cooldown, 14 seconds reload, 0.8 seconds focus and 10% stagger value. This recently had its cooldown, splash radius and leg damage nerfed. It still has insanely high power though along with a large projectile.
Its primary melee weapon is a single saber in normal mode or two sabers in NT-D mode. This has 2800 (2900) power, 2.5 seconds cooldown, 0.77 (0.5) seconds swap time, standard melee modifiers in normal mode with 150% downswing modifier and 70% combo modifier in NT-D. These have the standard Federation swings in normal mode but have a unique moveset in NT-D.
Its first sub weapon is a head vulcan with 150 power, 40 ammo, 600 RPM, 11 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap, 200m range, 1500 DPS and 6% stagger value. These have insanely high power and stun potential for vulcans. They pair very well with your lock on Armed Armor attack for more damage and stun accumulation.
Its second sub weapon is a back beam cannon with 1200x2 (1500x2) power, 50% (80%) heat, 1 (4) seconds cooldown cooldown, 450m range, 18 seconds overheat and 35%x2 stagger value. These don't instant stagger in normal mode but have low heat and cooldown for continuous fire. In NT-D mode they change to regular instant stun cannons with high power. They have low ridigity which makes it easy to enter into melee from a stun.
Its third sub weapon is a lock on Armed Armor DE attack with 1000x2x3 (1000x2x4) power, 1 ammo, 300m (350m) range, 13 (10) seconds reload and 35%x2x3 (35%x2x4) stagger value. These lock on like funnels and send out high ballistic power shields with good stagger value to attack the enemy. They can be locked on while boosting as well. This is your huge damage nuking source and easily deletes raids, especially the Sinanju Stein.
In NT-D mode it gains access to a barrier version of Armed Armor DE with 100% heat and 25 seconds overheat. It is unknown how much HP this barrier has but this weapon deploys a shield around you that blocks all stuns, including melee, until it is destroyed or 10 seconds have passed. This allows you to easily gain the advantage in close range fights to stun them from behind your barrier.
In NT-D mode it also gains access to a tonfa melee weapon with 3500 power, 2 seconds cooldown, 0.33 seconds swap and 150% downswing modifier. This has insanely high power and is also easy to hit with a long range thrusting downswing.
The Phenex has 21000 HP, 30 ballistic resist, 32 beam resist and 16 melee resist. It has high ranged defences but its melee resist is rather low. This isn't an issue though since it has the slots to easily build 46 melee defence. You have Maneuver Armor in both modes but activating NT-D upgrades your Leg Buffer and Psycommu Weapon Buffer by one level, where they are LV1 and LV4 in normal mode respectively.
You also have 130 (135) walk speed, 220 (230) boost speed, 75 thrust and 69 (84) turning speed. Your mobility is a little below average in normal mode but NT-D mode makes you incredibly nimble. You have LV2 Forced Injector, Flight Control and Emergency Evasion in normal mode but NT-D increases these by one level each.
Its stand out skill is the NT-D Ability Boost which adds +25 ranged modifier, takes away -25 melee modifier and upgrades the suits stats, skills and weapons. This works much the same way as the other two Unicorns in that it slowly drains your HP while active. You can activate Awaken after a set amount of time in NT-D to restore 2000 of your own and allies HP, reduces damage taken by 15% and reduces shooting modifier by -55 and melee modifier by -5. This stops the HP drain of NT-D and buffs your defences but comes at the cost of shooting damage. This isn't an easy decision to make so its not always ideal to activate Awaken.
Overall I think that the Phenex is absurdly powerful. It has all the strengths of the Unicorn plus those of the Moon Gundam. It seems harder to play then both of them but in the hands of a skilled player it will be absolutely unstoppable. I can 100% recommend rolling for it if you have the tokens. Oh yay, just what we needed in 700 Edit: on rewatch, the suits melee does seem very telegraphed, so teammates could tackle to help. Still seems very oppressive though.
I think the downswing is the same as Efreet Custom. So it should be good to use after a stun. Or using the tonfa downswing.
I knew it was only a matter of time before you figured it out. Ironically, I went a different direction with my run, for testing purposes. Glad I wasn't that far off on the path for Phenex. Cheers!

Unicorn has batter melee damage and the bazooka is good for stopping Manuever Armor, so it's actually still completely usable
Yeah Unicorn still feels really strong. It feels like 700 meta for generals will be between the Phenex and Unicorn.

Zaku 3C didn't have a fun time against 3 gens shooting him down...
I think the only real weakness it that the the DEs are physically and will return to you if they happen to hit a wall other than that still probably the best unicorn. Also glad awaken at least has some notable downside
I think they made Unicorn awaken the same way. Unicorn awaken takes away 45 melee mod now.
1. The whole charged shot followed by stop to fire really remind me of how ZZ/EZZ play at ranged ngl.
2. I find it funny that after hundreds upon hundreds of suits released, some of particularly massive size, there's finally one that can actually hurt you by just running face first into you.
3. I noticed that compared to Unicorn, Banshee, or even Nu; Phenex feels alot more vulnerable to supports (especially Kshatriya on a bigger map) because of its armed armors making it a much bigger target (not that I personally mind too much).
Yup. I think Kshatriya and Dag Doll will be really good counters to Phenex if used well. Big target without the same i-field shield that the Unicorn has.

Not a fan of stop to shoot weapons, especially on suits meant to be highly mobile, but this one is much more suited to my playstyle than the other unicorns. I just hope banshee norn doesn't come out for a while cuz it took all 7 steps

Its funny how I got the Banshee while doing the 7 Steps trying to get the Phenex lol already used all my luck in 2022 & 2023 lol

Only use it’s mega cannon when the ms is toppled or firring from a far.In Ntd mode use it for a stun to then combo

Unicorn still has the advantage of offence system, shrapnel bazooka and stronger melee ability in NT-D. Though since the nerf to awaken melee power, Phenex and Unicorn do the same melee damage once Unicorn activates Awaken.
@@avenger1_gbo260 I see, i guess phenex is a bit more complex to use and unicorn is better suited for someone who prefer simpler melee gamestyle and likes the stun sharpnel bazooka.

Yup. I like using it more as a melee unit now that I play it more though. The tonfa downswing is so op.
the fact it can heal team mates and you w ntd and awaken and fixes parts of allies too is cool but thats def a support style effect

the shields can eat a fuckton of dmg i swear its like they are on a timer not a dmg taken thing like other shield units

also the boosting for a sec gives w ram effect can be used to just rush and stun combo someone and despite the melee dmg going down in its two modes the dmg it does is still fat as hell

unicorns still a brain dead unga bunga spamming suit its shotgun rockets stun range it way too far and itll now maybe not kill w its spin to win spam but barely
delta got gutted it can still try to push someone but wont get as many stuns to do so and has to do it fast or risk losing its beam coating vs its prior lemme walk up on you chain stunning then downswing so its guerrilla sniper role or frontline support is made mandatory no more wannabe general shit w it
the schurzum gallus is still overpowered will still one combo anything at its cost the shotgun nerf does nothing a melee dmg drop does nothing
they need to drop its melee wep recovery speed so at best you get one combo and make the knuckles down someone from any hit and remove the dmg vs downed enemies
as it stands itll still solo anything vs it being a sneaky nimble suit to roll up w someone and chunk you with them or just clip a huge chunk of dmg off u solo
i get its hard to balance it given its niche setup but honestly its still way way too strong

zaku 4 got damage control faster charge time less hear its charged shot pierces its knuckle cooldown got buffed so u can get off a second hit when you knock someone down and the stun on its pistols got buffed to feel more like the IP so a burst stuns proper
oh and hp and defense buffs

Jealous. Anyway yes vs normal Unicorn lore wise it's stronger. With Banaghner Unicorn at full power I think it can surpass Phenex though. Unlike Rita at least Banaghner wouldn't suffer that fate. . .

not that it seems to need any help but i do find the Armed Armor DEs being physical and bouncing off walls but *every other remote weapon in the game* clipping through no problem very funny.
8000 remote ballistic damage that goes through walls would be a bit much tho
Oof, funnel into vulcans seems to harass pretty good...
It is really strong. It does so much damage lol.
Imagine the mini guns on the funnel shield for the awakening unicorn flying and firing all over the place. It's why I find XI less impressive. Capable of flying yeah, but not much of other powerful features other than that. Funnels missiles can be destroyed by shooting at them and they're massive.

I only had 90 tokens when this thing dropped. Bought the 110 tokens for the 7 Step Up. Got a level 3 Byarlant Custom out of it & 2 Nu Gundams, although sadly I already maxed out my Nu Gundam.

I don't spend any money at all. I basically only roll on 4 star banners with a few exceptions. I have an alt account that I do dailies on so I can get every suit I want as well for free.
