  • Four years ago I received a call from a dear friend, she mentioned that her soon to be father-in-law had a “brand new” Jaguar E-Type in storage. How could this be? Jaguar stopped E-Type production in the 1970s??
    Enjoy the story about this incredible garage find E-Type!!

    I remember watching cartoons as a kid in the mid 70's and some crime drama came on. Rockford Files? Colombo? Whatever... And there was a scene with a Jaguar e-type. THAT was the first car that my heart skipped a beat. The second one was a 427 Cobra that my father drove home one day. He worked for Ford and ended up actually buying a 260 Cobra. It was white with black interior. He got my mom a 1964 1/2 Mustang, 3 speed, straight 6, green with the parchment interior. My dad got the Cobra as he later told me that they (the company) kind of forced them on the employees because nobody was really buying them. They were more than a loaded Corvette at the time with power windows, automatic and air conditioning. Cobra had side curtains, got hotter than hell in the footwells, no radio, no ac etc. My dad said that it was one of six of them that sat out along a back fence for over a year and they finally discounted the hell out of them and sold them to employees.
    He ended up with a Cougar Eliminator and a Pantera. Not all at the same time. This was San Jose, California btw.

    Great story, and well done for calling the car an E Type, as opposed to XKE. I know that’s how they were badged in the States, but the whole legend of this car in its era revolves around it as an ‘E Type’.
    I appreciate there’s many different reasons why folks own these cars, or indeed have 200+ vehicle collections…. but for me, they have to be driven to be properly enjoyed. Locking a car away for many years just to get to look at it doesn’t seem quite right somehow, but hey each to their own, right……

    Yep bought an 1970 SS from a hairdresser in South Africa when I was there years and years ago and it nearly tore my heart out when he cried as I handed the money over to the bank teller as he would not touch it, I felt so guilty taking the only car he had ever owned i still have it I call it Pierre after him.

  • @tomthumb3085

    Probably the luckiest guy on earth. Whatever the cost, I would have kept this car in cosseted confinement until it was worth a seven figure value. Even high mileage, well used examples are fetching six figure prices in the UK at the moment. It’s going to be over a million in value very soon, if not so already.

    It's a Series III, said to be the least desirable model, mainly because it was bigger and heavier than the previous two series of E-Types. It was designed to appeal to ageing US buyers, so its handling was anaesthetised to provide a smoother ride.
    All too embarrassingly for us Brits, the close-ups reveal the appalling build-quality of UK cars of that era: shut-lines that fit where they touch; reversing-lights hanging off the rear bumper with visible wiring; the bumper itself crudely cut back to fit the tail-light units, which are secured underneath by a designed-to-rot metal plate with exposed screw-heads; the cheap-looking steering-wheel that replaced the older cars' wood-and-alloy beauty; etc, etc etc.

    • @joeblow3823
      @joeblow3823 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is a series 3 - the least desirable is the six cylinder 2+2. The series 3 might be bigger and heavier but in standard form it was the fastest and quickest accelerating, best braking and best handling of the E-types. Certainly more masculine in styling vs the the girlie look of the series 1 and 2 on their narrow skinny tyres and body too wide for the track.

      @darlocoluk9444 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've driven a few of the 3.8 and a couple of the 4.2 litre E-type Jaguars but for me i actually preferred the Series 3 5.3 litre V12. So much i bought one. It was in 1975 when a good friend of mine was selling his 1972 2+2 V12. It was the best car i've ever owned, so smooth & comfortable, completely different from the Series 1&2. Had the car for 18 months then sold it - sad day that, I've still got photos of it though.
      Only consolation is Jaguar had stopped making them & sold it for a good profit.

    10 minutes of some guy talking about an amazing car and a half dozen photos of the topic car? Total failure for a car guy to devote all of this video to the story and nothing to the actual car. 😕

    So these people own what used to be cars and are now art sculptures. Because lets face it...if you own a car and you dont dtuve it it ceases to be what it was intended to be. A motor vehicle. Stories like this are sad to me. Cars are meant to be driven.
