This was a good reference video for us who don't really like alternative milks but occasionally have Vegan guests. I myself have tried soy, almond, hemp and oat. I did prefer Oat over the others, but nothing beats a nice whole milk in a cappuccino.
Cannot “unsee” the stick of butter 😅!! I have to use Oat cause dairy kills my inner ear problems! I’ve been using the Calafia. Some days I get nasty bubbles some days ok.. going to try Oatly!!! Thanks Girl!!!🙌🏻
As someone who bought some barista oat milk to try move away from cow milk, and immediately made latte art resembling a toilet, thank you for this! I desperately needed this guidance.
I've picked Minor Figures in blind taste tests, and use it regularly in the cafes I work in. It's by far my favorite oat milk, but I think your Oatly pour was the best one. Anyway, I loved the video, I shared it with my teams, and I really appreciate all the great work you do.
I've been really happy with Chobani Extra Creamy and Planet Oat Extra Creamy. They have 8-9 gms of fat. You should try them and see if you think they compare well to barista series milks!
I will def make a second follow up for other brands! I actually have worked with chobani so for this I kept them off the list due to Bias buuuuuut maybe next time!
I’m struggling to find a solid choice that is also organic. (Non-organic oats are sprayed with glyphosate). Whole Foods has some options, SO Delicious for instance has an extra creamy but none of the organics are labeled as barista style. Could you try and find an organic option in your next video should do you do one? 🙏🏼
Fantastic video! I use Oatly exclusively, but I think in your throw down the Califia looked best (more defined especially in the layers). I find that when I texture Oatly medium, the very end of the milk in the jug is too thin and thus the very end of the pour looks loose. I will try to add a little more air to see if I can keep the structure looking good without the end loose result. Thank you!
In Australia, you can go with So Good, or Vitasoy Oat milk, and they don't need to be the barista versions. The regular have enough fat content to texture
One thing I've noticed about the thicker oat milks (e.g., califia, oatly) is that when used in iced coffee, they kind of de-emulsify(?) quicker -- sometimes you end up with a lump of sediment(??) at the bottom, under the ice, so I tend to see minor figures and even alpro more reliable in that sense.
I think Oatly looked best in your latte art, with Califia taking a close second. I have used both at home and prefered Oatly overall fir flavor. In the case that I cannot get Oatly, I purchase Califia.
Hello emilee do you know any homemade recipe to make oat milk for barista? and get that texture to be able to make latte art, in my country there are no such brands of oat milk and I would like to be able to try something similar, love your video btw
@EmileeBryant Great video and tutorial, thanks a bunch. One question: based on your tips, my aeration and overall latte pours are improving but for some reason my design always start to flow to right or left, creating a somewhat askew, distorted looking latte art, any hints? Much appreciated and thanks again!
Oatly seems to be the easiest to get hold of here in the UK, and is in most supermarkets. Although I prefer coconut or lacto free (which no coffee shops seem to do)
You should look at Elmhurst milks. The pistachio barista, and others, are delicious. But it’s very expensive. And speaking of expensive, I have a tiny atomizer squirt bottle with grape seed oil at my work station. I buy the non barista versions of whatever oat milk I like, pour the milk in the steaming pitcher and add two squirts before steaming. It performs pretty well and is half the price.
Hi Emilee! Thank you so much for your videos! They are great and you make them funny! :) One thing though with barista oat milk is that they all seem to contain some phosphate in various forms. And phosphates contain phosphorus, which can increase the risks of cardiovascular diseases, perturbates calcium metabolism, and can be nefarious for the kidneys when taken in to great of a quantity. The thing is that the body needs phosphorus, but nowadays, we tend to consume too much of it, hence the problem, and my question. Do you know of a good barista oat milk that does not contain phosphates?
It is possible! But it’s an uphill battle since the fat content is lower, it tends to foam up more and produces a dryer foam. For skim if it’s your only option, try adding a bit less air until you find a desired texture :)
I have the oatly barista blend, should I be shaking this when I remove it from the fridge? It says to but I end up with it having a ton of bubbles and struggle to foam it properly
@@EmileeBryant Deep and very loud! If i move the pitcher down it reduces but by doing this action im making a marshmallowy cloud of oaty remorse. :( Perhaps, I have the wand too close to the edge of the pitcher?
