  • This is special!
A Citroën XM 3.0 24V arrived at Seaside Garage.
This is a joint venture project with @BilklubbenPodcast
Before starting the engine I want to test the hydraulic system this is to avoid big leaks while the engine runs and to get the car on the lift later on.
Also I get rid of all the smelly old rotten gas!

When you run the starter motor, I am not sure that the ignition coils like to fire without spark plugs put in, and securely grounded. The coils can be damaged by the high voltage spark that has nowhere to go. Ground the leads can be done with wire stumps directly put in the spark plug boots grounded firmly to some bolt on the engine. Or spark plugs put in, but not let them spark plugs laying loose on the cam cover but grounded securely with some wire stumps or jumper cables for example..There is also the option to find and remove some fuse, relay or control wire for the ignition, but I don't know where that is on an XM.

I do like very much and appreciate your care in inspecting and reviving a vehicle that has not run in many years, unlike some channels that just "go for it"

I remember meeting a colleague in a car park for a quick meeting. I was the young guy driving the 900 turbo, he had the top of the range XM "old farts" car. I got in and instantly thought this is super comfy and well equipped, ok I see where the old fart is coming from 😂

Make sure that when you buy a radiator you buy a good one. The original valeo one is 26,5mm thick. The normal ones you can buy from nissens for instance are 23mm thick and have way less cooling channels. I had a very hard time finding a radiator but maybe there is one for sale on the french Citroën Heritage site. A friend who had a V6 12V automatic had cooling problems with the nissens one

I'm so glad you use those poor copper connectors as a tempry measure.. citroen systems pressures are so high a proper flare and union should be used as a permanent repair otherwise citroen would of used them themselves...

They are actually more then good enough and used by many citroen part dealers...
But the best thing is of course to change the entire line... but in a hurry they are fine.. IMO

Yeah, that's one way to depressurise a fuel line, even if it's a bit sudden and messy... :P
