I had an incident, and I am trying to understand what caused it. As I was practicing my pivot turns, I realized I was not adding enough power (it was not turning enough). So, I added power (maybe too much!). The bike dropped beneath me, and as I was getting ready to let it go and jump to stand beside it, the handlebar hit (really hard) my left hip. It is painful and I might have fractured my pelvic bone. But, the more painful is that I do not know how it can happen. I would be grateful if you can let me know what I possibly did wrong. Too much power? The surface was not slippery enough? Clutch? Thanks!
so most instructors I have seen recommend the bike behind you with your back to it when picking it up. have you found picking up the bike while its in front of you better / easier?
I do not teach that method and never use it. It is more difficult and you are more likely to injure your back unless you bike is resting on luggage or crashbars. Sounds like a video topic to me...

Also, is there a point (speed) where you wouldn't do that? With too much momentum wouldn't you risk that leg be propelled way back and risk being caught by the back wheel? With no rack or luggage, of course.
watch careful... my legs is NOT down, it is forward like you would ride a dirtbike. I am throwing forward to plant for the pivot. It is not about holding up the bike. If you watch other videos I do or some of the early slides you will see my leg is always up. It has to do with the amount of lean the bike has an how tight I am sliding the bike.

790 Adventure? In my mind the 790 is still the class leader off road for the big ADV bike category (we could debate the T7 of course). I had to get several angles I suppose I did around 10 or so until my rut was so deep I couldn't get it to slide consistently anymore (hence the blooper)
Each new angle you see in the video is a run.
@@BretTkacs You should post the bloopers! Lets us know you are human and not a cyborg rider
@@garthtohms5489 did you watch the end of the video ?
@@BretTkacs Yes, but more would be fun!
Id that a stock side stand? asking for a friend nameed Jesse! thnks
100% stock... there is a trick to using the stand they way I do. It's not just "stand on the peg"
@@BretTkacs thanks my stock 2016 bends alarmingly without much of a load.
Dare I ask, 790 back in the shop for repairs? I've given up on the idea of a new 390 adventure now,; so a Versys 300 maybe? And Bret, c'mon, a slide move hat to helmet? Sneaky...
The 790 is back home but I had the borrowed DCT so I wanted to really get to know it
Rather see a video of how Bret does this on a standard transmission bike - much harder to do when you have to modulate a clutch and can’t grip the handlebar and keep the bike upright as easily. DCT makes it like doing this on a big bike with a rekluse..
