A TRANSGENDER teen will be the first child in her state to have gender reassignment surgery covered by Medicaid. Trinity Neal, from Wilmington, Delaware, knew that she was living in the wrong body when she was three years old, before she had even started elementary school. Now aged 16, Trinity has been living authentically as a girl for over 12 years. Trinity made history by becoming the first minor in Delaware to have their medical and surgical transition covered by Medicaid, a state program that offers health insurance coverage for lower-income families.

@@written-postcards777 I guess I didn't understand what part you meant. Before age 13, she only socially transitioned so there was no permanent change to her body and then at 13 she got puberty blockers. Like all meds, there is always a chance of side effects, but blockers also aren't really a permanent change--if she went off of them without starting HRT, she would have continued her natural development and experienced male puberty. The doctor pointed out that permanent treatments can be started at 16, which is how old Trinity is now and what I assumed you were responding to since that's sort of a 'point of no return'. Regardless, every step of the way is via parental consent, the same as a minor getting a tattoo.

I'm sorry you regret that but your point is exactly right. Life experience (time) can vastly change one's perspective. I personally think mid 20s might be the earliest that people should transition because of such influences because by then you've actually lived life long enough to more or less orient and know yourself so you're less likely to reverse/regret such a decision than say when you were 21.
I said it in my OP but being trans must be a living hell for those who are but a wait and see approach is likely the best way to prevent the most harm, on average given the naivety of youth. There's no easy answer to this.

When I've jokingly put on a wig and called myself a princess, or described having a boyfriend to children that age, I am usually very quickly "corrected" ("but you're a boy!"). So they know there are these boxes we put certain features or behaviors in, so some kids (transgender ones) can of course reach the conclusion they don't fit in the box society wants to put them in based on some genitals.

I REALLY wanted to be a boy, from ages 4 all the way to 22. The dysphoria was so bad that I felt suicidal at times. I'm 26 right now and can't relate to those feelings at all anymore, in fact in a bizarre twist I finally feel alive and free by finally embracing my femininity and body now, and I don't see myself ever going back. As for why, it's hard to quite know or explain, but I guess in my case it was just a coping mechanism for the trauma I had endured. I'm not sharing this to invalidate trans people, because I just don't know what the right answer is anymore, but no matter what you believe it's important to hear every side of this narrative so we can prevent unnecessary pain and controversy moving forward. Not everyone who is convinced they're trans is actually trans, and that's just a fact. My experience just goes to show there are no clear cut answers here, and whether you choose to let your child transition or not could be risky either way. I have no idea what would've happened if I had gone through with transitioning, but I'm pretty sure I would still be just as unhappy as I was before, and no closer to resolving my self hatred and myriad of other issues being overshadowed by this idea that transitioning would somehow be the magic cure.

We really should stop normalizing talking about trans children's genitals so publicly. I'm a trans man and if my parents had let me talk about my genitals like this in such a public forum I would be absolutely mortified. Plus, this is made for a cis audience. Cis people dont need to know the details about what's in this little girls pants. This is garbage reporting that is sensationalized and is more harmful than helpful. Cis people ask us all the time, what's in your pants, have you had ""the surgery"" and these things are harmful and offensive. So sure, let's make an entire video about it featuring a MINOR. Jesus christ, just what parent thinks this is at all appropriate? You can make videos about trans kids without talking explicitly about their junk.

point is, that the person in the video is a child (surprise, surprise, children dont know what they really want in life. not sayin that teens cant be trans, but us tOxIc HaTeRs are just concerned. you clearly dont understand the cons of transitioning. yes, you can feel better in your new body, but there is always a possibility that you feel no change or you might feel worse. changing your sex isnt a magic wand that will fix all of your problems. not to mention that its expensive and you do have the possibility of having physical issues. children dont know what they want and parents shouldnt be giving them the OK for everything they want to do. gender reassignment can be mentally and physically exhausting (notice the _can_, it can also work in the person's favor, people just need to see the good and bad effects of making permanent decisions like this).
also this is an interview the family agreed to that they know will be posted to the internet. there are people in the comment section calling the mother insane, but the majority are just criticizing her. theres a difference between hate and criticism. the people here just care about the child and are thinking about the possible long-term effects of such a life changing surgery on a kid.
