I was a lucky kid to be able to see Larry and the boys live many times. We had third row seats. My father's boss owned East Pac, and had season tickets but almost never used them. My father didn't care about basketball so my brother and I got to go whenever we wanted. We were close enough to hear Larry taunt players, coaches, media...We still laugh about it. When the Celtics came out, they looked like factory workers, not athletes. But they played like the Harlem Globetrotters. It was different back in the day. I remember my brother and I sitting after the game and just talking as the Garden emptied. We were the only ones left. I saw a ball on the floor in front of us. I said "Bird steals the ball. Underneath to D.J." We walked on to the court, got in positions and recreated when Larry stole the inbounds from Isaiah. I got to be D.J. for the layup. We walked to the exit and two janitors who were sweeping applauded us.
I wouldn't trade that experience for a million bucks.

Bird wasn't being racist he was saying black men are just better athletically and Larry was equally as good so putting a man on him that doesn't play to that caliber is an insult or disrespectful.

Some players thought Larry was just an asshole, some thought he was a Zen master of Basketball "basics", confidence almost to a fault. All were true. Larry Bird was like no other player in NBA history! As exceptional as Michael Jordan was as a basketball athlete, when pitted against Larry Bird in the playoffs, Jordan was never able to beat Birds Celtics being swept twice, 3/0, 3/0. Here we are 32 years after Birds retirement and he is even more popular today then he was in 1992! If you want some easy, fast "clicks", just post a video of Larry Legend Bird and watch the view counters rise! The man was incredible, so much fun to watch!

McHale was uncanny sometimes too. He was like Bird's prodigy. These two and Robert Parish would school any team in today's NBA.

My fav story about is as follows:
The night before a game vs the Bulls, the Bulls’ cheerleaders see Larry im the hotel bar. They start buying him beers and chatting with him all night long. They were trying to get him tired and hung over for the next day’s game.
Well, the next day he put up 50, crushed the Bulls and as he walked off court past the cheerleaders he said “thanks for the beers”. 😂

He did exactly that, said "Merry F'n Christmas"...BTW, I was at Larry Bird night... He was the real deal and these aren't stories, they happened, I was there and saw all these games...just sayin'... Basketball then was not like today, at all ...

    Thanks for the reaction 🙂
Please, please 🙏 react to _Bird is the Word_ from the Larry Legend Full Games channel.
There's a lot of footage in it that I hadn't seen before and additional angles.
Regarding the accompanying music - trust the musical progression. You'll understand once it starts, just go with it, the progression works.

Dont know whether youve seen the Suns bench incident. I think its the best one. Down 2 with 2 seconds to play, Bird went to the Phoenix bench and told them he was going to bust a three on them and just go home. Im tired of this. He got the ball with 1 second left, swished the three, then turned to the Phenix bench and pointed at them and said told you so. Thats surreal.

The doc didnt let Bird go back.
Larry waited until he left the room then went back out against the doctors orders.
Doc DID tell him he way out for the game.

Larry grew up playing against black men.. and he always said they were the best athletes.. and he wanted to go up against the best. That's not racist.. he wanted to be challenged with the best players. He was respecting the best players

you must not have seen one of the series on Bird, that told about how he grew up. Bird would go play ball on a court that was all black people. THAT is where he learned the game. Most of the people he played ball with were black. THAT is why he felt disrespected.
