I won't go that far, but there are some areas Bird is better in. But Bird probably helped stoke Jordan's competitive fire and upped his level of play. I also believe that one of the reasons Bird is ONE OF the GOATS is because he makes his entire team better. I'm not sure if Michael Jordan can say the same and it actually does hurt seeing Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan feuding behind the scenes nowadays.

I am old and I am from Boston. I watched all of the Boston Celtics games when Larry Bird played. I don’t have the words to explain how awesome it was and how happy I am that I got to experience that in my lifetime. It was so awesome and so perfect that I have not been able to watch basketball since Bird retired. That era was special. These young guys think differently about basketball. They seem to be all about statistics. I don’t remember caring about stats back in the 1980’s. It was about watching amazing basketball. I’m talking edge of your seat, adrenaline pumping, heart thumping, feeling like my life depended on Bird pulling out another buzzer beating win night after night. Then being so excited we would go outside and play basketball until it was too dark to see. What a time to be alive. I wish it could have lasted forever. I’ve tried to watch basketball every once in a while. The games are boring compared to the 1980’s. I’m sorry but it’s true. Those 1980’s teams went to war on the court. Those legends from the 1980’s never quit on their teams. They played every second until the game ending buzzer. Even the highlights from the 1980’s games were more exciting than the highlights of today’s games.

My life in a nutshell. I was the same way, but I was from Ohio and I remember that almost every weekend I'd be able to watch a Boston Celtics game's and I would do the same thing after the game was over. Go outside and imitate Larry Bird trying to be able to shoot like the Larry Legend. And if not for Bill Laimbeer and his dirty play and sticking his foot under Robert Parrish foot and sprained his ankle in those two series. Before playing The Fakers. Larry Bird would have 5 Championships instead of 3. I really believe that for a Fact. And that Ball 🏀 went out of bounds off the Fakers not Kevin McHale. Terrible call. I don't care about them kids are more interested in trying to prove that Labron James is better than Michael Jordan 😂. Larry Joe Bird was better than BOTH PERIOD. The Scottie Pippen argument is the worst argument one can have against MJ. Every star needs help to win I dont get whats so crazy bout that 😂 Bron needed help so does MJ. Aint nobody beating the 85 Bucks, 86, 87 Celtics or 88 Pistons with Orlando Woolridge or Charles Oakley as ur #2. If u were to tell 80s sports fans that MJ shoulda won those series they would assumed u did four lines of coke right before telling them that. In Larry Bird's rookie year (1979-1980), with a team with drug problems and with no McHale, Parrish, DJ, he led the Celtics from a 29 game winning season the year before to a 61 game winning season. The following year with Bird at the helm, the Celtics won the title. Larry Bird knew how to get the whole team involved in the game and he made his teammates better players. He rarely worried about stats, he only cared about winning and that meant sharing the glory with his teammates. People downplay Jordan's teammates when he first got to the league but he had some good ones. However his mentality explained itself in his quote before the playoff game. He tried to be a one man show. Until he learned to pass he was a non factor. Jordan always respected Larry and never claimed to be a better player.

Put this into perspective. Bruce Lee is considered the Goat of fighters but even though he is the Goat there are still others so legendary that their very name in some ways is even greater than the goat status. These are legendary people so crazy skilled that legends sprout up thanks to their status. A good example of this is chuck norris. He may have lost to lee but he is still legendary even after that. Bird is the same way. Jordan may be the goat of scoring but Bird is the legend of basketball. The only man that jordan could never entirely beat. The only man who could call his shots like babe ruth and no matter how much the other teams tried he would score. That is why he is larry legend. Goats come and go with everyone always passing the title but becoming a legend is something else altogether.

Scottie averted 7 points his first season. This is what happens when you build a team from ground up and not leave a team because they are not winning so you go to where other great players are, so it's easier. Put that shit into prospective. 5 HOF including the Legend against a young Michael Jordan.
with those losses he also lost to the Pistons another team filled with Hallers.
Stop with the comparison... How the hell you gonna be the greatest, can't shoot foul shots, not clutch in the biggest moments, shy from the ball down the stretch cause can't shoot foul shots., don't play defense (one chase down block in a big game does not make one a great defensive player, especially when the player should have dunked it instead of that lazy layup which was surprising considering), No post up game at 6f9 until late in career, no deep shot until late and still inconsistent. sorry dude there's no comparison and Larry is better without question!! in this can't touch league Larry would average 45 and triple doubles at least!

Lebron fans always use this argument as a knock on Micheal Jordan. Jordan had only been in the league two years when he got swept by the Boston Celtics. Keep in mind, for the first 7 years of Michael Jordan’s career, from 1984-1991, Jordan played with NO ALL STAR PLAYERS! Jordan said it in the clip, can one man beat the Boston Celtics? Basketball is a team sport! Michael Jordan knew he was overmatched. While teams like the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons were Stacked With Multiple All Stars and Hall of Famer’s, Jordan’s Bulls faced those teams without the luxury of one single All Star Player. I agree, Larry Bird was a phenomenal player. If the game was on the line with 10 seconds left, I’d take Bird over Lebron everyday. But, was Bird better than Jordan? I don’t think so. Bird and Magic have admitted in interviews that they weren’t better than Jordan. Quite obviously, the Boston Celtics would sweep the Chicago Bulls. The Celtics had 6 All Star Players and 5 Hall of Famer’s, compared to the Bulls who had Jordan and 0 All Stars and 0 Hall of Famer’s. Under those circumstances, your analysis must be put into the proper context. Larry Bird had 5 Hall of Famer’s and won 3 NBA Championship’s. Did he ever win back to back Chips? NO! Did he ever 3PEAT? NO! Michael Jordan 3PEAT’d with ONLY ONE ALL STAR PLAYER!

And yes, Bird by many observers has been placed ahead of LeBron.
And yes, Jordan lost to Bird a plenty during his career but Jordan became a winner and the greatest ever because he went through Magic, Bird, Zeke, etc. to ascend to the mountain top.
Why do you think LeBron wore 23? It was because his favorite player was the all time great Michael Jordan.

A case can be made for Jordan, Bird and Kobe for being the G.O.A.T. and you won't get as much push back as you do trying to make Lebron the G.O.A.T. All three of them were great on offense and defense. They had almost no flaws in their game. You can't say the same about Lebron because he doesn't have a mid range game, he's selective when he plays defense, he has limited skills, he's inconsistent at the free throw line and take care of the ball. Everyone talks about how great Lebron is at assists. But if he was so great, he wouldn't have the NBA record for most turnovers ever by a wide margin. If you want to say it because of his longevity then explain how he's 10 in turnovers per game. His turnovers is also why he lost a lot in the finals. So for this reason I don't even have Lebron on my top 10 list.
    1 Jordan
    2 Bird/Kobe
    4 Magic
    5 Isiah Thomas
    6 Bill Russell
    7 Kareem
    8 Shaq
    9 Wilt Chamberlain
    10 Hakeem
Lebron is a great athlete but he's noton the level of any of these players. He has the record for most points only because he's been in the league for so many years. Not because he's a great scorer

Wait hold up hold up, I like how the biased video creator always says "Bird faced prime Jordan AND prime Pippen", but he never says "Jordan faced prime Bird, prime McHale and prime Parish" like Bird didn't have a superteam whilst the Bulls were a one team show, peak bias and that shows why Jordan is the GOAT, he gets criticized for getting swept by an all time great team whilst being the lone star whilst other GOAT candidates like Lebron have actual stains on their record like 2011 or Bird underperforming in the 1981 Finals WHERE THEY STILL WON.
Unlike all those guys Jordan never had one bad playoff series, only bad playoff games and that's the difference.

Bird was better than Jordan from about Jordan's rookie season (1984) to Jordan's first MVP season (1988). That being said they never faced each other in their prime, Bird was better than a rookie Jordan and Jordan was better than an injured Bird. The closest season they had to competing was Jordan's MVP year in 1987-88, which was Larry Bird's last relatively healthy season as he played 75+ games and the next year he practically missed entirely (only 6 games).
So how does 1988 Jordan vs Bird fare when they were both closest to their primes ?
When they were the closest to their primes ? Jordan ofc walked away with the MVP averaging 35/5.5/6/3/1.5 on 53.5% field goal, he also won DPOY that year and carried his team to a 50-32 record (3rd in the East behind Larry's Celtics and Isiah's Pistons). Defense was one way that Jordan affected the game that Bird didn't, video creator conveniently forgot that. Larry Bird might have had the best year of his career as he averaged 30/9/6/1.5 on 50/40/90+% splits. Bird definitely affected the game with his size and shooting more in contrast.
In H2H match ups that season they tied 3-3, but in Bird's defense as I always want to be objective, he missed two games versus the Bulls and the Celtics lost both games, so he only lost once to the Bulls that year. Here are their average stats for those 6 match ups or in Bird's case 4 games :
Jordan - 39/5/6.5/2.6 on 55% field goal, Jordan stepped it up against the Celtics because he had to, people don't remember that Pippen didn't become an All Star until 1990 so Jordan needed to carry that team and here's where I'm going in Jordan's defense because we have to keep it a buck like I did for Larry, he had a much better team than Jordan did even at this point, let alone when he was sweeping Jordan in the playoffs, for chronological purposes that was the past 2 years before this MVP season.
Bird - 33.5/9/6/1 on 58% field goal, Larry also stepped it up and it wasn't rare to see Jordan and Bird combine for 70+ as they were equally motivated, competitive and hungry, Larry is definitely a legend and deserves his top 10 player of all time ranking.
What did they both do in the playoffs ? This was the first year Jordan made it past the first round and as Jordan became a better player, his team record improved from 38-44 to 50-32, past that we can't credit him because Pippen and Grant emerged so they also had a hand in the improvement of the squad, although ofc Jordan did improve still too and some of those wins past 1988 should be attributed to him as well. Back on track, the Bulls beat the Cavs on a dominant Jordan performance mostly, you can look up his teammates' stats, that was a carry job. However they would lose to the Pistons in 5 games with Jordan putting up 27/9/5/2 on 49% shooting, which by his standards is lackluster and his team could have benefited from more passing, but then again, who was he gonna pass the ball too ? Maybe Jordan could have unlocked Grant's and Pippen's potential one season early as their stats in the series vs Pistons suggest that they should have taken more shots, but looking at the one game they did win and you can see why it was impossible to beat the Pistons. Sam Vincent and MJ combined for 67 points and Vincent put up 31 by himself, THIS IS THE SAME GUY WHO HAD 4 POINTS IN THE PREVIOUS GAME...and the next game he has 9 points on 3-12 shooting, it was a stroke of luck. Yadda yadda the Bulls lose in the ECSF in 5 with Jordan having meh games (22 and 25 points, albeit on great efficiency) and in the last game he tried to involve his teammates, but they still lost because the Pistons were an actual good team. Credit to them.
But enough about Jordan, what did Larry's Celtics do this year, this was clearly after their success, Bird has already won 3 rings, 3 straight MVPs and 2 FMVPs, so we can already guess they lost. In the first round they beat the Knicks comfortably, but in the ECSF they had to go to 7 games to beat Dominique's Hawks, Larry was clutch in that Game 7, but some praise has to go to Dominique because he put up 47 points in Game 7 on 57.5% field goal. Larry predicted a Game 7 win because he was a confident MOFO, but it was still a close 2 point game decided by a goaltending call on the Hawks, nonetheless Bird had a 20 point 4th quarter and scored in the last minute (109-114 at time) by slipping past Dominique who was guarding him.
The Celtics made it to the ECF to face the team that bounced Jordan in 5 and they lost in 6 games with Bird having a terrible series, averaging 19/12/6/3/2, but on only 35/28.5/86% shooting. Even so the Celtics managed to take one more game from the Pistons than the Bulls.
So after all the facts and context, I'll let you decide who was better that season, in their primes.

I hate to agree with Isiah Thomas but even though I agree that Jordan is the GOAT of NBA basketball, he was indeed a non-factor in the 80's and that's okay for Jordan's legacy. It still means Isiah wasn't wrong when he correctly said that Jordan's Bulls, even with Phil Jackson and Scottie PIppen, couldn't beat the Pistons, couldn't beat Magic with Kareem, and they couldn't beat Larry's Celtics. It only means Jordan, like many great players, founded a dynasty when they were at their peak and kept it riding against a new era.
