Welcome to the Houdini HOULY Challenge Series! I am attempting to make a video every day for the next 31 days showing how I am creating my daily HOULY Challenge entries for the contest being held by SideFX. These are not tutorials, they are walk-throughs/time-lapses.
All work is done in Houdini and rendered in Redshift by Moeen.

Happy birthday :))!! Eager to the fur (i saw the owl on the website :)) I learned a couple of things with placing the obj on top of another and that line connection. Astronaut turned out great!

How do you think about Redshift? It is necessary for a novice to get great light quality?
Hey Jeyoung, so, I used Mantra for a long time and then used Arnold for a while. What I realized is that you can get good looking renders out of any renderer. In fact, Redshift isn't the most realistic looking. However, Redshift is very fast.
I think it is important to learn about lighting and composition (learn from photographers, they understand it well). Once you understand that, you can make any renderer look good.
You can get a free trial of Redshift on their website if you wanna try it. I would suggest getting the paid version if you
A) have the money to spare, or
B) are getting serious about your rendering.
But, I do highly suggest Redshift, it's awesome.
