  • Welcome to the Houdini HOULY Challenge Series! I am attempting to make a video every day for the next 31 days showing how I am creating my daily HOULY Challenge entries for the contest being held by SideFX. These are not tutorials, they are walk-throughs/time-lapses.
    All work is done in Houdini and rendered in Redshift by Moeen.
    Check out the entries on Instagram using the #houly2020 tag.
    Use the tag #HOULYLIKEJULY (RIP Houlygans) and I'll be able to see your entries and be sure to leave a comment!
    This is all for fun and to push my limits. I hope you join too!

    I just realised the blizzard effect you mentioned, thought you ment a real blizzard effect, but it's Shadowlands cinematic trailer when Sylvanas faces the Lich King =) Thanks for your vids bro, just finished 3 years of 3D uni where I learned Maya,Zbrush,Substance,Photoshop and a little UE4 etc and I'm trying to expand my knowledge, working on C++ and houdini next and your vids are of great help. Watching these to get an overall feel of the workflow which is soooooo different from maya...feels like I'm getting overwhelmed but no worries! Houdini isn't scary ! ( I hope XD)

    I love your work and I truly (not howly) hope to see more and more of your videos! I started to learn Houdini for animation last year, but I want to learn more, it's so fun

      haha, haven't hear that one before, thanks Benjamin! And yeah man, Houdini is loads of fun. Sure, it can make you despondent at times because of the sheer overwhelming nature of it. However, it brings such a freedom of creativity when you start to understand it. Thanks for watching!

      I agree his final renders and light touches of ember and blue flame set it off. ILM should hire him !

    may I (a complete beginner) ask, 6:10 why use a Delete node instead of a Blast one? Is there any difference?

    • @NineBetween
      @NineBetween  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Thanks Gabriel! I used a delete node mostly because of the 'delete by expression' option. I needed to delete areas that had a low @heat attribute. The blast node can only delete by group. So, I would need to have used a 'group expression' node as well as a 'blast'. I opted for the single 'delete' node instead. However, 'blast' is a faster node and is usually better to use, this case was a bit different

    This is so cool! If you haven't already, could you possibly do a tutorial on look dev in houdini?

  • @ichingls
    @ichingls 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was going to learning by following your steps, until I saw VEX, just watching your videos as entertainment.

    • @NineBetween
      @NineBetween  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      haha, thanks! Some of the projects have less VEX. You can also skip the VEX and replace it with something else in a lot of these.

    Is it the pyro source that changes and is the different colours animated groups or am I completely wrong. Cause that is cool and i need to try something like that

    • @NineBetween
      @NineBetween  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're halfway there. I have two groups of points which get used as fuel that each have a color attribute (the main burn and secondary burn). That attribute gets passed to the simulation. They get advected and mixed together. After the simulation, you feed the color into the renderer as a multiplier for heat. One simulation, one attribute, different values. Try messing around with sourcing @Cd into pyro sims. It's a lot of fun :)
