    Thanks for pointing out the importance of balancing responding to a baby's need, but also encouraging "independence". It's definitely a fine balance that keeps evolving.

    When he wakes up prior to his wake time at night times I don’t even chest pat, I let him soothe himself back to sleep. This is usually him fussy crying for like 7 minutes then he’s back down. I sleep trained my son at 6 weeks with a gentle cry it out method and after 3 days he was able to put himself to sleep for all naps.

      Yeah it’s taken me a while to learn the difference between real cries and fussy cries

    • @Jsween876
      @Jsween876 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AshleyEmbers for me, he stops a couple seconds in between and puts in a dash of whimpers for fussy crying. Real cry is full blown screams and panting/ breathy hiccups.

    Thank you for this video. I am struggling so much with our 2 week old. I try and respond to sleep cues but it doesn’t work. I get her swaddled, noise machine, put her down and she fights sleep and wakes up. She will be awake for hours! 😖
    I bought the taking cara babies course and nothing in there works either. I hope it gets better as she gets older. She will only sleep on our chest, or when nursing. I’m so tired and over the screaming that even though I don’t want bad sleep habits, I don’t even care anymore 😭
    I thought I would have a handle on getting a routine etc quick. No.
    Our nights are screaming, nursing, she spits up a ton, usually all over herself and me, we all have to shower, she’s screaming more, nurse again repeat cycle until like midnight or 1 am and she falls asleep. Then she’s up again 1 or 2 hours later wanting to nurse and not sleep. She gives me like 4 seconds to figure out what she wants before she full on screeches. It’s so stressful.

    • @AshleyEmbers
      @AshleyEmbers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy, yeah that sounds stressful. Just know that you’re doing your best and your best it enough. Soon you’ll be out of this stage and you’ll forget how tough it is! Best of luck ❤️

    when would you start to incorporate a dream feed? and are pacifiers advised for newborn sleep?

    • @AshleyEmbers
      @AshleyEmbers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I incorporated a dream feed from the start. I also didn’t use pacifiers but that’s just my choice 😊

    • @karamarie7646
      @karamarie7646 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pacifiers apparently reduce the risk of SIDS, although I'm not sure whether or not they improve sleep.

    wow, im binging on your videos. i have a 3 month old baby :) you sound very sweet ! you have a good sleeper. my baby goes at most 5 hours stretch at night. but since he turned 12 weeks, he has been waking up every 2-3 hours at night for feeding :/ maybe an early 4 months regression or leap ?

    • @AshleyEmbers
      @AshleyEmbers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow yeah our kids are the same age! Yeah that sounds like a regression to me!

    • @fashionguru16
      @fashionguru16 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may not be a regression, it may be a growth spurt. A lot of babies hit a huge growth spurt around 4 months so they wake up a lot more to feed. My midwife said during this time to feed on demand again so that he eats all that he needs.

    Was there ever a time he didn’t want/wouldn’t sleep in the bassinet? If any, what did you do to help him be comfortable there?

    • @AshleyEmbers
      @AshleyEmbers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there was! Honestly we just got rid of the bassinet and put the crib in our room until we got a new bassinet that was better. I didn’t want to “customize” the old one to try and make it comfortable.

      I bought one that has a removable and washable filter (versus a lot I found that need new filters purchased) and also filters mold spores (which surprisingly not all do).
