Same! Was about to post. Not a lot of video out there explain big about the dual band. This fixed the lag for me (for now). Haven’t tested at night when everyone is streaming vids yet. But hopeful and no lag really makes the portal great! Ty!
The portal was very laggy when I bought it at launch. I put it down till this week when my wife used the TV and I figured why not try it again. Before I could play it made me download an update. Since then it has worked GREAT! The swinging in Spider-Man 2 is crisp. MLB has no lag when I’m batting. I can land combos in Tekken too. If this thing can continue to work like this I think everyone should get one. It’s that good when it works.

I woke up and couldnt believe my eyes and purchased it immediately 😂🤣. . I hope i dont have issues with mine. My ps5 is hardwired. Looking forward to the portal. Hopefully it just doesnt sit as a paperweight and dust collector. Ty for this video. Please dont take thie the wrong way but i think u look like the late great Amy Winehouse 😍.. I just got one today. I’ve got a bog standard isp supplied router, ps5 and portal both on WiFi, router the opposite end of the flat to both devices. It’s worked flawlessly, crystal clear and zero lag. Maybe I was just lucky?

@@Liessshy thanks for this vid. Your tips made Christmas morning quite a bit easier to handle. Crazy that this thing can't just pair and work w/o extra finagling.
I think you are spot on in your initial thoughts on this device. Even with the adjustments made there are still additional issues when you leave the house and have to use a public wifi. Most people are buying this thinking they can just unbox and play when in reality using your phone probably would give you a more consistent experience
I have no interest in taking it out of the phone even though it's "designed" to be able to do that. I'll do it for content to see how that experience goes but that's about it haha

Liessshy you aren't the only one who has discovered the connection limitations with the PS Portal. It's defiantly a design flaw. The device is obviously still in development and dependent on other technology advancements. Either way, your initial impression is really what matters here. This follow-up video is just a bonus. I'm in the UK and alot of people have issues with the portal so I've been doing some research before buying my own. Transparency regarding your issues may help people in the future so well done!
What helped me: setting both my portal and my ps5 to the allow list for 5G, and to the block list for 2.4g on my router. Then ensuring that my ps5 was set to 5G instead of automatic. Thanks for the info!
Hi, I have never seen any youtuber that addresses the stuck pixel issue on ps portal. So I was wondering if it was only me, but luckily I saw a post in reddit that they are having a stuck pixel problem as well.
I work in IT and you're 100% right. If you PC game, well technical issues is just something you have solve once in a while. While if you have a device that is designed to be plug-n-play, you really should be automatically set up with the best experience or at least given all the instructions from the start. It's really a failure to facilitate to users from Sony's end.
Thanks for the quick follow up video Liesshy. I have one preordered and was a bit nervous after yesterday. And yes you’re right, I follow you because of your transparency and the fact your experiences will be inline with mine being in Oz. Keep up the great work. 👍🏼
Thank you so much! I think if you follow some of the tips I've given, your experience will be great from the get-go. It's just a shame that not everyone has this knowledge and may think the device is whack!
I've had my ps portal for 3 weeks . I have a connection of 600Mbps . Ever since i bought it Ive been connected to my wifi 5G and it's always lagged a little and it constantly lowered resolution.Tonight I decided to switch to my 2.4hz connection and now it runs like a dream . No stutter no lowering resolution . Butter smooth. Can anyone please explain why this happens ? According to basically everywhere online, youre supposed to connect the portal to 5g but after trying 2.4hz im never switching back. It runs perfectly . Why isnt anyone else experiencing this ?
I don’t have a gaming router but my ps5 is connected to Ethernet 5ghz with 900 down and 200 up and I get constant lag and I even get disconnected sometimes 😭. Only have had it one day but I think I have to return it
Hey, based on the number of caveats you needed to say in this post I am really sorry about whatever feedback people directed towards you. I’m new to your videos and you seem very sincere. Thanks for posting.
Thanks I just ran across your video. I wish I would’ve seen it sooner I just sent my ps portal back because I just couldn’t get it to connect. I tried resetting portal multiple times and even had my internet provider upgrade my service and it still didn’t connect. I tried for an hour before I decided I was done and sent it back. Hopefully I can get another one for retail.
Something no one is saying… the PS Portal performance is greatly dependent on your at home UPLOAD speeds.. if your PS5 is on wifi like AT&T fiber (highly recommended) which has 300 uploads/300 downloads and connected directly to Ethernet.. it’s flawless! HOW IT WORKS: Your PS5 uses your UPLOAD speeds to send its remote data to your portal and then your portal uses your DOWNLOAD speeds to retrieve that data for gaming.. again I’d highly recommend this if you have wifi with the same uploads and downloads. Fiber is the way to go regardless, trust me, but also not everyone has access to that just yet unfortunately
great follow up Liessshy - like I mentioned and totally agree with you, as a general consumer, it needs generally just work without all the fiddly bits - if alot of people are in the same/similar boat to you, this is a great easy to follow up vid to address some of the fixes - what baffles me is remote play works better out the box so why couldn't they just try to replicate that? guessing something to do with the modem in the phone or something tech reason - but yea, again as a consumer - remote play generally works, then this should too without tinkering - but here we are :) - ANYWAYS, glad you got it working a.ok!
Thanks my friend! I think my points are valid too and this shouldn't be such a work around just to get it to work. I hope Sony take this feedback from everyone and work with it. Give us something that's worth our money and works for EVERYONE not just select people who have the ability to make these network adjustments around the home
I was thinking of getting one too because we have thus one bad ass tv I think it's 4k or 8k woth roku 75" , and all the other features. I don't always have access to that TV. I appreciate that you explained exactly how it is out of the box. I think I'll wait till they come up with a upgraded version or some type of patch that can make it more accessible to the average audience.
They shouldve just made a vita successor and have remote play on it. Gamers would have their handheld and sony have their dedicated remote play device and both parties win.
Hold this sub. The 5ghz setting change ended the notorious “lag spike every 10 sec” in my portal. I can now use my portal across the entire house seamlessly. THANK YOU.
Hard line connection to my PS5-->5GHZ--->connection via WiFi to PS Portal, and still has issue just intially connecting and stay connectyed with interuption every 5-10 min in same room at router or not...
I subscribed. Your video helped me out. I ordered some ethernet cables. Just received a new router. Hopefully it works good with the portal. As of right now using wifi , its a terrible experience.
I would get this. My wife sleeps and im awake with the tv on. I would like to play certain games at that point. Also certain games feel better hand held . Weird
I never had any problems My PS5 is in the basement yeah I do have it hardwired to the ethernet cable but it worked perfectly straight out the box. Hell I even flew over a thousand miles away from my house to Wisconsin and it still work perfectly even at the airports
Your first review was an honest first impression review. You shouldn’t apologise for that. I found your review a realistic real world consumer user situation. So, your review is real… Stuff the people personally criticising your first review. Great job 👌🏾🤙🏾
I need help I keep getting network requires an additional validation step that uses a web browser on my screen on my PlayStation portable 😭 idk what to do please help!!
Well I’m glad there was a definitive-ish solution to work accordingly. I knew someone that praised it claimed virtually no issues so there had to be something that went wrong. But I wouldn’t know.
I’m on NBN on 5 MHz and that’s on wireless. Started setting up my portal after the second update. The screen went blank. It’s still working. It’s just staying blank. Do you guys have any ideas how to fix it? Cheers.
I bought 30th anniversary portal 3 weeks ago and it's been a nightmare but knew was getting the PS5 for Xmas yeah im in my late 30s now so got the time again from whare left my Ps2 as a teen lol anyway I was with full fiber 500 and it just would not run worth much on that! I just got in EE full works side of it for the gaming package and 3 routers included smart hub and WiFi booster but even at gigabit speed was no change unbelievably! So you could imagine how feel! Just last night the Ps5 speed test was 236.3mbps as was dropping connection the message was popping up constantly just joke! So unplugged the wifi booster got the cat 5e either net cable they sent with this new wifi 7 stuff and it shot up to 823mbps just by plugging in a cable! Can't believe it! Still not happy they can't find whare the amount of mbs is being pulled from, its showing its coming into the house at 900mbps when tech came out to check absolutely nothing! He just went on his phone done a speed check and buggered off saying everything was fine! I think it's the actual box in the cupboard that's faulty as it's coming in to house to that but that's not pushing the same back out! I'm not fully need but know a good bit but I've turned to TH-cam for help now as last option!
Hello, my place doesn't support direct wired connection to the PS5. Can I use a mesh node to extend the WiFi coverage, then connect it to the PS5 using the LAN port? Would this enhance performance compared to just connecting the PS5 to WiFi? I greatly appreciate your guidance!
My vision isn’t the best and I’m a target audience too lol I can finally sit all the way at the pillows of my bed and relax and play games now instead of sitting a few feet to the tv at all time in one position. Plus I have IT knowledge and ASUS routers so I think I’ll be good when my Portal arrives! 🙌🏽🎉 a win for me. Hopefully this can be used with hotel wifi.
I tested it with hotel wifi the other day and couldn't get it to connect as the hotel wifi needed to access other web pages to log in, but I wasn't aware at the time that there are ways to do this on the Portal, so if you run into the same issue, be sure to Google how to do it! I ran on my 5G mobile hotspot and it was pretty good (I posted a short showing the experience a couple of nights ago!)
@@Liessshy dang that sucks! Hopefully they fix it or implement a browser for this. Switch is the same way tho so idk if anything will happen. Thanks for the tips and nice videos!
I got a wifi booster with my new EE gaming package I upgraded to to get all this running but the main router is downstairs the booster is in my room it does have an either net port on it so tried it last night to see if it would work just off the booster and it shot up from 236.3mbps to 823mbps just by plugging the either net into the booster and into ps5! I'm absolutely shocked tbh as it's only picking the 5G signal up off the main smart hub wifi6 and getting that speed with everyone else connected to their stuff! I am supposed to get 700mbps at anytime or can cancel my contract with them so seriously away to play on this to get them out again to find whare over 500mbps is going after it comes into the house! Non of the other devices are pulling it as turned them off and tested loads different times which empty house! Definitely the signal causing the issues!
Great follow up! I actually think it's great that you have shared your overall experience with the portal, good and bad, because it not only keeps things real by showing the reality of the experience of a consumer of the product, but it is also true to your brand with your honesty and integrity. So glad that you were able to get it working for you, I'd love to hear more about your experience with it as you start optimising your internet connection through your house because we are going through a similar thing with connecting to fibre and optimising the house. Also, 1 question I do have is do you have to have the ps5 on to use the portal, or can you just log in to the psn once you've connected it to your ps5?
Thank you so much P! I do think its great too that my complete experience has been shown. These new ways to play can be so foreign to consumers and I'm just glad that even though a negative experience happened, I was able to honestly show it as well as find a positive outcome. I'll keep you posted on the networking side of things for sure. You need your PS5 either on or in rest mode to have this work. You can technically take it anywhere and connect to a wifi and stream from your ps5 as long as the console is in rest mode. Time will tell as I test this!
@@Liessshy Ah-ha! Rest mode! So THAT’S how it works! Ok cool, that’s great to know, thank you, it’s the ONE question I had about how it works. In all honesty, I don’t think PlayStation’s marketing and communication surrounding this product have been that great, so it’s no wonder people have questions and may run into issues with it. Thank you for your honesty! Looking forward to seeing you test it out in the “wild”.
So my issue isn’t with my home internet of my ps5 it’s at work with the portal and my office WiFi. At home my ps5 is hard wired to the modem and I have like 540 mbps download, way more than the recommended needed by Sony. I work shift work and am away from home for 7 12 hour back to back shifts alone and the whole reason I got a portal is so I would t need to lug my ps5 back and forth to the office. However for whatever reason whenever I connect the portal to my office WiFi it just will randomly disconnect after like 2 minutes without fail. This forces me to connect my portal to my iPhone hotspot which works and stays connected, but it’s not a smooth experience. It’s not awful, but I’d say it’s a stable 20 fps which isn’t terrible, but it isn’t ideal either. I’m not sure what else I can do seeing as how I can’t change my works WiFi. Any suggestions?
I have zero issues with mines it boot up perfectly download perfectly only thing I can tell people put your PlayStation 5 on 1080p and turn off your 120 HZ make sure you're not on 4K and I promise you it will play amazing I have played demon soul Dark Souls Spider-Man I had no problem
I've heard the same solution and glad yours is working buddy. One issue I had with that solution though was going down to 1080p on my gaming monitor was really noticeable, so was I expected to switch between 1080p and 2160p every time I wanted to play at my desk/portal? Cause no way I was doing that. If that's the case it should just be automatic.
Why does the portal work when I’m on the same Wi-Fi but not when I Connect to my hotspot or my neighbors house who has the same isp? It works just not on the go for some reason.
When you’re remote you’re connected over the internet with the bottleneck likely your home internet upload speed. When you play local it’s a direct LAN connection between the devices.
@@justanotherdave. Thanks but I have 24 upload speed at my house and at my neighbors. We both have the same fiber optic isp. Please explain??? I got it to work when I had my ps5 on my hot spot just to see if I could. So that makes it more of a mystery to me.
Might be a little late to this video, as I only got my hands on a Portal 2 weeks ago, but I actually had the opposite experience out of the box. I've got high end internet, but im on the second floor with my router being on the main floor. The PS5 is in my bedroom, which is also the exact same room where I've been enjoying the Portal playing from my bed with the hockey game on my TV. Like I said, straight out of the box, connected perfectly no issues for 2 weeks. Today was playing some Persona 3 on it and put it down for 20 minutes to take a shower. Came back and it lost connection to my PS5 and no matter what fixes I've tried from all the experts online, I have not been able to get it to reconnect to my console. Literally out of nowhere, went from no issues to a paperweight. Enjoyed your video.
Im the only one on my internet, I’m Etherneted to my 5G WiFi and have no issues from my ps5 but when I get on my portal I can’t even play it’s so buggy. I’m about tired of playing with it and bout to return it. Any suggestions on what else to try before I do so. I’m literally playing 5 feet from my ps5 and it’s so laggy you can’t even tell I’m playing cfb 2025

Thank you so much. I appreciate this a lot 🙏
My gf just bought for me yesterday as a surprise but man i was disappointed on the quality. Too much damn lag
I'm glad you were able to get it working! It does look like a fun piece of tech.
I'm glad too because the experience IS fun! It just shouldn't be this complicated to work
Can you show all the settings for optimal play?
I was thinking of getting one too because we have thus one bad ass tv I think it's 4k or 8k woth roku 75" , and all the other features. I don't always have access to that TV.
I appreciate that you explained exactly how it is out of the box. I think I'll wait till they come up with a upgraded version or some type of patch that can make it more accessible to the average audience.
They shouldve just made a vita successor and have remote play on it. Gamers would have their handheld and sony have their dedicated remote play device and both parties win.
I love everything about you, thank u sooo much! ❤️💯
Hold this sub. The 5ghz setting change ended the notorious “lag spike every 10 sec” in my portal. I can now use my portal across the entire house seamlessly. THANK YOU.
I'm so glad to hear it 😁
Thanks so much love im going to do that i just happened to get one yesterday. Blessings from London England
Well done, I'm glad it's working out for you!
I'm glad too. I want to love this thing so badly haha
@@Liessshy happy to hear that! I feel the same about my Steam Deck, it was a gift from a good friend of mine last year 😊
You don’t have to punch a hole in the wall for the Ethernet. Just get one long enough to go along the baseboards. That’s what I did.
So basically just connect your gaming double band router with an ethernet cable to the ps5 and go to settings, network and choose the 5G option
I just got one but I can’t move my character in game any solutions
Hard line connection to my PS5-->5GHZ--->connection via WiFi to PS Portal, and still has issue just intially connecting and stay connectyed with interuption every 5-10 min in same room at router or not...
I subscribed. Your video helped me out.
I ordered some ethernet cables. Just received a new router. Hopefully it works good with the portal. As of right now using wifi , its a terrible experience.
I would get this. My wife sleeps and im awake with the tv on. I would like to play certain games at that point. Also certain games feel better hand held . Weird
I enjoyed my portal when I was living with my family away from my house
I never had any problems My PS5 is in the basement yeah I do have it hardwired to the ethernet cable but it worked perfectly straight out the box.
Hell I even flew over a thousand miles away from my house to Wisconsin and it still work perfectly even at the airports
well i have everything that you've suggested already so fingers crossed it all works for me haha. great update vid! bring on Friday.
Keep me posted how you go!
You can also turn down the resolution on the ps5 as well.
I didn’t know you could change the bandwidth settings to make it 5g and 2.4 dedicated instead of automatic
I also unplugged the hdmi from the ps5 and it made it even better
Placebo effect it does nothing
This was a great update! My PS5 is wired but my Wifi sucks in my room so not sure how it would work for me.
Tip. Try putting games in performance mode when playing on the portal. Game changer
So connect the ethernet to the routher and NOT the IPS Modem? Mmm, I tried it before but didn't work weeks ago but i will try it again
Once i changed to ethernet it runs perfectly. Great vid!
OMG!! It's Jillian G. 😮 Thanks for your review.
Well I’m glad there was a definitive-ish solution to work accordingly. I knew someone that praised it claimed virtually no issues so there had to be something that went wrong. But I wouldn’t know.
Let's hope it continues to stay that way 🙏
I’m on NBN on 5 MHz and that’s on wireless.
Do you have mesh already? I would say yes, give it a go! In theory it should work fine
@@Liessshy do you know about powerline internet, i guess it helps a lot more
I swapped to powerline mesh routers last week
Mine keep coming up with a globe in top right corner
I have connected the Ethernet to ps5 and connect WiFi to portal but it’s not connecting ?
I can be hard wired and still lose connection and I’m in my house. This product was a let down for me
If they would just allow you to toggle between two gigahertz and 5 GHz like you can on the PS5 it would be flawless
Where are all those settings?
I've heard the same solution and glad yours is working buddy. One issue I had with that solution though was going down to 1080p on my gaming monitor was really noticeable, so was I expected to switch between 1080p and 2160p every time I wanted to play at my desk/portal? Cause no way I was doing that. If that's the case it should just be automatic.
@@Diamonddeath They're in your PS5 settings, not the portal.
Great vid mate. Don’t worry about the trolls that go hard. They’re usually just not happy people with no relevance in life. Keep up the good work 👍
How do u play Crash Bandicoot on Portal? I feel smashing it into tiny tiny pieces.
Crash is my favourite series ever, I’m used to it haha
@Liessshy The stutter kills me. My PS5 is hooked to the router and I still get stutters. I feel like I wasted money on this.
@Darkraid ohhhh, nah I don’t play with my portal anymore. It’s a piece of garbage lol
@Liessshy Hell yeah. Its ok for other games but Crash on portal is no no.
It helps.. Thank u very much
Why does the portal work when I’m on the same Wi-Fi but not when I Connect to my hotspot or my neighbors house who has the same isp?
Sounds like you need to update both consoles
Im the only one on my internet, I’m Etherneted to my 5G WiFi and have no issues from my ps5 but when I get on my portal I can’t even play it’s so buggy. I’m about tired of playing with it and bout to return it. Any suggestions on what else to try before I do so. I’m literally playing 5 feet from my ps5 and it’s so laggy you can’t even tell I’m playing cfb 2025
Can you install a physical disc and use your portal to play?
Yes
Buying this now, so by the time my pay comes I can play REBIRTH FF7 on it. Can't wait.
Just bought it and hate it loses connection to wifi fast can't even walk away from playstation without it disconnecting set up was horrible
Portal lags kills the fun! Sony must provide new mods upgrade otherwise many will ditch the portal!
