    I was having lots of lag, drop in connection etc.
    I wired my ps5 instead of WiFi and the portal now works perfectly well.
    Edit, I should mention I hard wired my ps5 to a mesh device in my living room that’s not hardwired to the router and it still worked. Not sure how but it made a huge difference.
    I was getting 90mps wireless with the ps5 which in its own rite should be ample but it was terrible. I hardwired the ps5 to the mesh, my speed increased to 250mps and I’ve very very little lag now. Played the portal last night for about 3 hours, was a great experience

    I love these videos and that you’re starting a discord channel. It’s so great to have a fellow PS Portal enthusiast making helpful content like this.
    One additional thing that has been helpful for my portal, as well as overall network, has been a scheduled router reboot. For a while, my portal was getting bogged down and super laggy. After a reboot, that was taken care of, so now I have it done weekly. The slightly obnoxious thing is that I have to re-optimize the 5G network frequently as it always defaults to the same, more congested channel.

      That's an odd problem with your 5GHz frequency, I wonder if that's a bug in the firmware? Are there any updates available for for the router? Appreciate the kind words though my friend :)

      I appreciate your kind words, but I actually think this is how Sony deals with all returns. It seems like they verify that the issue exists, then ship out a new Portal and send the old one to be repaired and sold as a refurbished unit. I don't think I've seen anyone that's gotten their original device back (afaik).
      Still, gotta love Vampire Survivors, such a great game ❤️

    I left my ps5 in Colombia and now I'm playing from a hotel in Argentina. Works pretty well for solo games but for competitive games like COD it is not that well because there is some input lag that affects the aiming part

    Its funny how you upload this video and just a few days ago i was trying to find out how to get rid of lag when streaming rebirth on my ps5 to my steam deck. I used to have it in my living room where i played psvr2 and was connected via ethernet but i always prefer to play on my larger tv in my room. Trying to find a better channel for both 2.4 and 5 is very difficult due to living in an apartment condo.

      Yeah it can be really tough to find quiet channels in built up areas. One of the drawbacks of the Portal is its lack of support for WiFi 6 which would have helped with that somewhat for those that have it.

    Great video! These have helped me immensely after purchasing a Portal.
    I have a question about channel width. I'm using WiFiman & at home it shows I'm connected to 5ghz 80mhz & performance is excellent. When i go to my GF's house it connects to 5ghz 160mhz & the picture quality is reduced as is performance . Is 160mhz sub optimal for Portal & should i consider moving to a channel with lower width.
    If so , how do i do this?
    Forgot to add, signal & latency shown on WiFiman are both excellent at both locations & very stable.
    Cheers

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm so glad you found it helpful. With regards to your question (which is excellent by the way). WiFi channel widths are a bit of a balancing act; a 20Mhz channel will offer the greatest stability, but at the cost of network speed. On the flip side, 160MHz will offer the greatest speeds, but at the cost of interference (and potentially stability).
      I've had the most success at 80 and 40MHz personally, but that's taking into account where I live and what surrounds me. Since your GF's network is running at 160MHz, I'd see about knocking that down to 80 and see how you get on. You'll need to log into the router at her house and look through the settings within the WiFi section of the router.
      It's a bit difficult to be more specific than that without knowing what the router is. But any decent router should give you the option to change the channel settings, including the width.

      @@TheGameFatherUK That's great, thank you! Performance is perfectly playable here but it just looks like the resolution is dropped considerably from what it is at home. It looks to be around 720p & is a lot softer & less sharp than at my address.
      I'm going to give this a try today as I'm here for the weekend. She has the latest ee router so I'm hopeful I should be able to get within the settings & move it to 80mhz.
      Yeah I don't think I would have purchased the Portal without watching your videos first so thank you.
      I first downloaded WiFiman to test my network stability then carried out an evening of testing remote play using my phone. Everything was running brilliantly so I went out & bought a Portal the next day & it's been a brilliant experience so far. I've completed 3 games in the first 2 weeks & am blown away with how it's changed my gaming experience.
      I would say my only gripe with the device is the micro stutter issue but I'm hoping Sony can come up with a fix as I believe it's refresh rate related 🤞

    I do like your vids though and the internet drops are interesting to look at from a geeky point of view 😂 When i saw the portal i was hoping it would be less of a streaming device and more of a mini console which lets you run ps5-1 games. Perhaps less relied on the internet to play it.

    I’m really interested to know if you’ve noticed the camera judder issue? It’s my biggest problem with the Portal. I don’t think it’s an internet/network issue. From what I’ve it’s something to do with the PS5
    streaming at 59hz and the Portal being 60hz. Like there is a sync issue.

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's correct, it's a discrepancy between the refresh rates between the console and portal. I don't think Sony have even acknowledged that the problem exists. Thankfully, my crappy eyesight can't even see it. But I can totally understand people that say it makes the Portal unusable for them. I'm very much one of those people that struggle to see the difference between 30 and 60fps 😂

I repurchased one hoping it was my network, but having read a bunch of posts on Reddit it’s now clear to me it’s a problem Sony has created. I too haven’t heard them acknowledge this issue. Some people say a software update could fix this but I’m not so sure as I think Sony would’ve done it by now. The judder for me is a deal breaker and I guess I’ll be returning back to my phone for some remote play action 😪. Shame because the hardware itself is great.

      Port forwarding is a way to tell your router how to deal with certain incoming traffic on the network from outside. So in this instance, it takes the remote play connection data and sends it directly to your console.

      I'd say that at least 90% of the problems that folk run into with their Portal (or any remote play device) is because their home WiFi isn't up to scratch. This video shows how to test for that and how to sort it.
      Wired connections are always more reliable than wireless, but you can have a decent setup with WiFi with good equipment and the correct environment..
      My portal has been excellent since day 1, no problems here. But that's not been the case for a lot of people. The issue is that there isn't really any actual support for those people so they just end up thinking "my internet connection is awesome, so it must be this piece of shit Portal", when in actual fact, they've just not understood the problem fully.
