I used to be a team yellow, but now, RYOBI make excellent tools for my DIY projects and home renovations, at half the price of yellow tools. I'm starting to buy some RYOBI tools with the nice deals at HD, and this router will be on my list. Excellent How to video ryobi, you guys are awesome!!
That is such an exciting comment! It sounds like you made a good choice going green and yes, the HD deals are pretty amazing. I know you’re going to do awesome things so keep us posted on your projects. ☺️
Thank you Shannon for your Ryobi Cordless Trim Router instructions…..I just bought one and really had no idea on how to use a router….thanks to you, I now consider myself an expert!….😅
I am about to start a DIY van conversion (Fiat Ducato LWB) so I have just purchased the 18V RYOBI R18PD Percussion Drill, and the RYOBI R18JS Jigsaw on the ONE+ system. Excellent tools for a variety of tasks. Very versatile, top quality, and one battery will fit into over 260 products. Ideal tools for any RV, campervan, or caravan enthusiast.
@@Madebyshannonevans - Thanks Shannon. It's something new that i've never done before. I'm just preparing and collecting the required tools/materials. I will be documenting the progess of my DIY van conversion on my channel. (A Fiat Ducato is the European equivalent of your Ram Promaster).
@Shannon Evans I'll take a look at the manual and such. I've had it about 45 days and the box is gone. I'm going to check it out. I was about to make a new base plate to get something bigger than the square that it came with. Thank you for the reply
I want one of those! I've been trying to get my hair out of the way, I can't, I don't have hair. Shucks! I don't have the needed requirement to buy one. LOL. Your demo was excellent!
This was a pretty good how to video overall. Improvements? Show how to remove the part covering the collet. Also, lower rhe sound of the background music. It was nice and short giving enough information that a person could begin to use their router safely. Thats a big plus! Thank you for the video. 🙏
Great video! Really very useful for a beginner like me. The only issue I have is I still don't know how to remove the part covering the collet. Thanks for any tips
Please keep the music the way it is. I watched this video in my garage on my TV and JVC speaker. Turned up the speaker loud and danced to the music while at the same time get a quick learn up my Ryobi routers. Thanks!
OK, so the point about manually raising the bit 1/8" to allow for "expansion" because of heat confuses me. Expansion how? Which way (length, width)? And does this mean that as the bit heats up and "expands," the cut changes as well? Thanks in advance!
I just finished building the handrail on my deck th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!
I love Ryobi tools, and their instruction manuals are usually decent, but I found this router's instructions unclear at times (mostly in regards to installing bits, and setting up bit depth). I've figured most of it out via videos like this one, but I am still confused about how I should be using the ruler on the side. Every time you install a different bit, the recommended gap that we are supposed to leave between the bit and the collet will vary slightly (not to mention the varying lengths of bits themselves). Wouldn't this cause the numbers on the ruler to be arbitrary / inaccurate? Maybe I'm thinking about it the wrong way...
I think some steps were missed for installing the bit. Magically, the massive piece of plastic was removed. I can't get my bit in my router although it's one of the same kit bits, and I think the included tool has to loosen something. Currently, I still don't know how to get the bit in the round black thing thing that seats it.
Not gonna lie…this feels and operates a lot better than the last P601 version. Ergonomics are better, the adjustments feel nicer, and the new base is much much better!
Maybe the model in the video is different than mine but my model requires a wrench (included in the box) to loosen and tighten the hex looking part where the router shank (end of the router bit) goes in while pressing the button at the end of the depth adjuster. I opened mine a few days ago and forgot the wrench was still inside the box so it took me a little while to figure out how to get the bit to go in.
Watch your fingers in the open hole where the bit is. That gap can be pretty large so a finger can find its way in there kinda easily. But it may only happen once 🤕
You didn’t hold the flat side against the wood fence edge when cutting the groove towards the end. This messed up my project all weekend because I should have been using the straight side of the plastic guide edge along the wood fence guide, but I didn’t, I used the plastic curved side because you did when cutting the groove. Your groove was short though and I had longer grooves to cut and because I used the curved edge like you did, I ended up constantly getting uneven crooked cuts. All I had to do was stop and watch other helpful videos to see what was going wrong. I could have been so much further ahead in my project if I just hadn’t watched this video first. What luck.
In fact, I just watched this other lady LITERALLY say to switch the base plate around to get the flat side next to the guide for “a nice clean cut”. I wish ryobi would have caught that!! Ugh messed my entire weekend up because I was clueless since I followed this lady’s video. SMH. This other video the lady uses ryobi and clearly states you have to do this.
They need to redesign this router I’m a big ryobi fan but I won’t get this product till it’s updated. Used my friends ryobi one+ router, was disappointed
Aw. Hate to hear that, but I’d love to know…What about this router were you disappointed in? Or what update are you looking for? Thanks for commenting! 💚
Very good explanation, it's a shame that he speaks so quickly and one can easily get lost when you don't speak English and you have to read the subtitles.
Not to be sexist, but having a woman tell me how to use a tool doesn’t seem right. And is it just me or does her head look like it’s photoshopped on. Like her face to too shiny and there’s no movement to it.
I love it when companies use women to demonstrate these power tools because we all know that in the real world only women use them. Man, stand and watch or do the dishes.
Thanks -- haven't used a router in years and this handheld one looks easy!
I feel like I could actually use a router after watching this! Thanks Shannon!
Aww! You’re welcome! It really is so easy to use and what a difference it can make in any project. High fives to you!
Excellent instruction and advice! Thank you so much. I recently bought both this router and bit set. Looking forward to learning new skills with them.
This was actually super helpful.
I forgot how to adjust the sleeve and the manual wasn't much help so watched your video and problem solved. Router is working out great. Thanks.

I’m just learning about using a small router. I bought an 18v. Learning what I can before beginning a project. Good video. Ty
A great way to explain the router. I notice that safety is a priority with Ryobi. The tools I have used are great! Thanks for the video!

Yes! Isn’t it so easy to use? Certainly mighty, but simple! What kinds of projects do you use it on?
@@Madebyshannonevans just starting to upscale from simple projects to more detailed so mostly adding some finesse to the edges of shelves etc.
I have it also but my router didn't come with that clear base plate shown in this video. Did yours?

Great explanations, great vid! thankyou. I am just kicking off at it at 62 times around the sun. cheers.
is it better to do the micro adjustments
with lock lever open?

Nice 😮
Will this cut out a plate groove?
Love these videos. I do wish when showing the tool you tell the name but not the model number.
Is it possible to get a video of setting up guide rails to use the router?
OK, so the point about manually raising the bit 1/8" to allow for "expansion" because of heat confuses me. Expansion how? Which way (length, width)? And does this mean that as the bit heats up and "expands," the cut changes as well? Thanks in advance!
The collet on mine is super tight and it’s hard to get in and out. Any thoughts or just return it and get something else?
Is there a risk on leaving the battery in the tool?

Thank you! The Ryobi tools we have in South Africa are not the same, probably not the best to be fair. Not sure why US is different?.
Because we’re awesome

Only an 1/8th inch deep on the first pass? Is this common or is this just really shallow because it’s cordless?
I think some steps were missed for installing the bit. Magically, the massive piece of plastic was removed. I can't get my bit in my router although it's one of the same kit bits, and I think the included tool has to loosen something. Use the two wrenches 🔧 hold the black part in place while you tighten the inner bit.
Can you use this router with a rotozip type attachment to cut electrical boxes out of drywall?
Not gonna lie…this feels and operates a lot better than the last P601 version. Ergonomics are better, the adjustments feel nicer, and the new base is much much better!
Great explanation ❤
Can I do a common ‘Ship-Lap’ without a guide like a Mitre Guide or straight edge. ? Thnx,,,, : j
It's hilarious that you have someone's aunt explaining the tool to us. lol
So in other words, it's so easy to use even my aunt can use it? That's a plus
I do have a few nieces and nephews, although they are pretty inspired by this, so it's a good thing.
I love my Ryobi P601. The only thing that would make it better would be a Plung base. Make that happen Ryobi.
And a vacuum attachment like Ridgid. Get those two attachments made and this router would be the best deal in all trim routers.
Maybe the model in the video is different than mine but my model requires a wrench (included in the box) to loosen and tighten the hex looking part where the router shank (end of the router bit) goes in while pressing the button at the end of the depth adjuster. This video shows the new version
Why doesn't my bit fit in the router, it's 1/4 shank?
I got mine as a set with a jigsaw. Now I know I can make specific things with this.
Watch your fingers in the open hole where the bit is. That gap can be pretty large so a finger can find its way in there kinda easily. But it may only happen once 🤕

Make sure not to leave your battery while she leaves the battery in like we all will probably do lol jk I love ryobi
