There were some sources that said that HPZ was going to be some kind of level that acts like a portal for sonic after he acquired all the 7 chaos emeralds and transform into super sonic. Whether this copy of super transformation is legitimate or not, I believe that this was how the level was intended to be. And also the HPZ music at the super transformation scene was the the music intended for that particular cutscene. But all these ideas were dropped and it was put up in Sonic 3 and knuckles, along with the Super emeralds lore.
It makes sense, considering the unused song is the only "level theme" to end conclusively in Masa's demos (as opposed to fading into silence as it continues to loop). What I'd heard (albeit unconfirmed iirc) is that Hidden Palace would be the destination of the special stage star rings once all the special stages had been cleared. Complete Hidden Palace, unlock Super!
@@PhirePhlame Yes. Even I heard bits and pieces of that information too. It's very sad though that this idea was scrapped from the original game. Due to time constraints, there was no alternative but to scrap it off from the game.
the fact that the multiplayer music is always used as the stage music here in prototypes and that the demo of song 10 has a definitive ending leads me to believe that every multiplayer song including the results was made for a unique stage that got cut early on, but they still used the music. Song 10 was probably for a cutscene not unlike the one shown here, of maybe a small segment that lets you play as super Sonic. The multiplayer results theme in particular sounds almost jungle like, fitting for the scrapped wood zone
the best part about this is the backing instruments for the music getting cut when sound effects play, as that happened sometimes on original hardware because of sound channels.
not sometimes but always - the composer should prioritize the instruments using 6 available channels in the way that is some sound would play that would replace the less important instrument.
In fact this is real. SEGA planned "If player get all 7 emeralds, he will be accesed into Hidden Palace zone, and then after its completition he will get Super Sonic".
My headcannon is sonic became fleetway, but the game code tried to stop it, but it couldn't because of fleet ways immense power, so it crashed itself as a last resort
And sonic being forced to turn super The game wasnt ready for super, so it definitely didn't know about the Fleetway counterpart. Knowing it wasn't supposed to be there it tried to corrupt itself to de-render Fleetway, thus his eyes and mouth disappearing. However the attempt failed and it only de-rendered the facial details and not the sprite itself, (Here goes my second head cannon) so Fleetway was able to corrupt and kill it. But right before it did it, it halted itself by permanently deleting the super sonic code, however half of the games code was centered around the form, so once it deleted the game, it deleted the intro, sprites, and it's internal code. Some of the code made sure the game was running, So once it happened...It halted itself. And all of this happened until the halted screen. So the game sacrificed itself to delete an anomaly in a nutshell.
This actually would be great cuz hidden palace is where sonic can turn into super sonic. If you collect all 7 emeralds in this stage or have had gotten them already, then this "scraped" cutscene would have actually occurred.
Honestly, I think it could have made more sense for Hidden Palace housing the 7th Emerald, following the "OMG, why was there only 6 in Sonic 1????" logic - the 7th emerald being kept in the Hidden Palace, where Robotnik can't(?) get his grubby hands on it. Using the unused music for the Super Sonic cutscene makes even more sense, as it would be the first time Sonic is exposed to the chaotic energy of all 7 emeralds at once, and thus couldn't control his Super form all too well in the beginning - thus justifying his panicky reaction.

That would be interesting if it was in the game, sonic find out about a 7th chaos emerald and then accidentally transform, due the hidden palace crumbling into pieces after you obtained the emerald
Easy to spot how it's fake. There are CRAM dots on the bottom during normal gameplay, which wouldn't be seen if recording a VHS on the actual hardware. It then disappears during the "cutscene" and the "system halted" screen. The actual gameplay was likely a recording of the BlastEM emulator, which does show these dots. This sounds more to me like the cut scene music that was supposed to be used in the cut scene here, and the level music while playing is as it would be when playing the final game, and using game genie codes to access the hidden zone.
(Final Sonic 2 track 10 hex) = Hidden Palace Gameplay BGM
scapped 8 bit track = Hidden Palace Cut Scene BGM
EDIT - I should've said "My opinion is that the music heard during the cut scene itself *should've been* the level music for when you're playing, and the cut scene music *should've been* a track cut from an 8-bit sonic game"
Okay but this sounds like it was taken from a creepypasta lol
You needed all the chaos emeralds to get to hidden palace zone the way I remember seeing the prototype but I don’t remember but what I DO remember is the smooth sprites that we needed to remove due to memory storage!
Yeah I know the smooth sprites had to be removed cuz the memory, and also are you one of the developers?
Hidden palace wasn’t in the original sonic 2 it was added in the mobile ports…
Who's gonna tell them?
Hidden Palace is a cut level from Sonic 2 but you can still play it the 2012 mobile port you have to enter 0303030B10101004 on sound test then go to hidden Palace and you can play the original cut level
@@Mr.IDK07the mobile port was 2013 man or you taoing about java
