  • From time to time we all feel a bit down and recently I've been struggling with a few things but walking and the dogs has really helped keep thing in check. This just a short vlog on making the time to look after ourselves.

Some wonderful gems of shared solutions .... certainly from my own experience, I can concur that a four legged friend in your life { one that fits in with your lifestyle } can be a major plus. 🐾🐾 👍

Thanks for the video. Yes, navigation tips would be very welcome! I've been a walker/explorer for around 55 years and I'm still hopeless! Fortunately my phone has an app with footpaths and a LOCATION marker. Wow, it tells me when I'm shooting off in the wrong direction!

I will look into that. By 3 it's already getting darker out there so this would be a good option.

The darker days of Winter can really affect your mental health, especially if you go to work in the dark and come home in the dark like I do. Often on the weekend I feel the need to just throw on my ruck and go hiking in the park near my house. The fresh air and sunshine are like medicine, and I can feel life's problems melting away -- even for only a few hours. Oh, and Yes Please to Navigation. I loved learning LandNav in the Army and need a refresher course.

I think I definitely get affected. I'm lucky and work from home so I do get to walk the dogs for an hour every lunchtime which I really enjoy and this forest I'm always in is right behind my house which is a massive bonus. Nav, I'm on it. Thanks for watching.

Glad you're feeling better and have turned a corner. As a 58 year old man, I know what you mean. Yes please, navigation videos would be great. I haven't done any nav training since I was in the Air Cadets and haven't used it for years but want to do more on Dartmoor next year.

You are welcome. I tend to wear 'Coyote Brown', adaptive green or Olive green when I'm out in the woods, sometimes it really pays off and if you are quiet and still foxes and deer will wander right past. a couple of years ago I was sat down boiling water in my stove and a deer wandered up with its head down I had to call out 'hello?' as I thought it was gong to knock my stove over. I still laugh thinking about how I could see its eyes widen and it jumped in the air when it realised I was there!

@@dogdadoutdoors ah great story. I love having magical moments like that. The closest encounter I've had was only a robin who sat on the arm of the bench right next to where I was sitting. I hardly dare breathe. Nature is beautiful isn't it 😀

I think the best advice I can give you to push yourself outdoors is to get a dog! Mine want to go out rain or shine and if I haven't taken him by a certain time during the day, one of them comes to bother me until I do. It's not great if you are not feeling well or really tired, but it certainly does get you out of the house. I'm out for at least an hour 6 days a week, my wife does the other one on her day off.
