Snuck into one of their afternoon rehearsals when I was a kid. The security guard kept kicking us out, and we would find a way back in. Finally Dave Clark told him to let us stay because they were rehearsing a new song, and needed to try it out on an audience! One of the highlights from my childhood!

thats right - under rated and a good rock voice - but yuck for the band he was in - - pop fury
NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE BEATLES - C'MON - One of the worse groups ever -a flash in the pan - just Beatle copiers - like other groups H Hermits for example .. - most songs Clark wrote went nowhere - they sucked - oh and D Clark just about the worse drummers of all time - he must have had one or two drum lessons - maybe ? .... he sure liked those little triplets breaks - almost in every song they did - and the songs you don't hear on the rest of their ALBUMS - so unknown - unplayed - unremembered -
I hated them then - and still hate them now . being a real musician that I am - most musicians laugh at them . . . .

    Lyrics:
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
Since you left me and you said goodbye
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
All I do is sit and cry
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
You went away and left me misery
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
And that’s the way it’ll always be
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
You said you loved me and you’d always be mine
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
We’d be together till the end of time
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
Now you say it was just a game
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
But all you’re doin’ is leavin’ me pain
Time goes by and goes so slow (oh, yeah)
    It just doesn’t seem true
Only just a few days ago
You said you’d love me, never make me blue
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
Now you’ve gone and I’m all alone
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
And you’re still way up there on your throne
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
Nothin’ seems to ever go right
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
‘Cause night is day and day is night

This record was removed from the juke box in a coffee bar I used to frequent back in the day in Ilfracombe. The owner was fed up with people banging the tables in time with the beat. Spoil sport! Brilliant era to have grown up in.

Only clip I've seen of any DC5 song where you might realize Mike Smith is lead vocalist. Dave Clark was such a control freak.

    • @mr.3camerasman59
      @mr.3camerasman59 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes. Dave was a crap vocalist, but he presented himself as the front man for the group, even though he was in back pretending to pound the drums.

I think most people realized that Mike Smith the keyboardist was the lead vocalist. Dave Clark was a show biz impresario at a young age. He created the band, the songs, and managed its business, so he could do as he pleased. Mike Smith did all right by Dave Clark.

I was six when these songs came out in 1964. I never forgot those songs of my childhood. I've always liked the songs from 1963-1966 much better than what came after. They sure dressed better back then too.

he was yes = good voice .... but
NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE BEATLES - C'MON - One of the worse groups ever -a flash in the pan - just Beatle copiers - like other groups H Hermits for example .. - most songs Clark wrote went nowhere - they sucked - oh and D Clark just about the worse drummers of all time - he must have had one or two drum lessons - maybe ? .... he sure liked those little triplets breaks - almost in every song they did - and the songs you don't hear on the rest of their ALBUMS - so unknown - unplayed - unremembered -
I hated them then - and still hate them now . being a real musician that I am - most musicians laugh at them . . . .

The "Buttering" style he used was one that not many could master. He was a master at it. Dave Clark was a damn good drummer. He didn't get the credit he deserved. Sad that so many criticize him.
