You know places like Home Depot, CT and etc will colour match to the T? I've had paint gallons and spray cans done in the past. I had a BMX done Monster Green and Rockstar yellow.
Also, more automotive places can just grab the paint code for a make/model and make it for you.. He said it in the video, that's literally what they did.

the best results that I have had was by following the Magic Painter Method (i found it on google) without a doubt the no.1 info i've tried.

There are several factors in getting a good result. One resource I found which successfully combines these is the Magic Painter Method (check it out on google) definately the most helpful info i've seen. Check out this awesome site.

What your forgetting to mention is base fades over time. So get the base colour matched and base the whole pannel on last coat then clear. Is not going to blend properly any way unless it's an exact colour match. And have fun with metallics out of a rattle can.

    Good job.
I had never painted a car or body parts in 30 years and at least 25 cars I've owned. This past week I painted my teenage son's Impreza in an open carport on gravel and dirt ground. I figured out what works for my area (western Colorado). I did 5 and 7 light to medium-wet coats on a whole car, over 4 sessions without fail. Apply and let dry for 15 (minimum) to 20 (maximum) minutes between coats and it works fine for the paints I used. You should spray two small test areas with all environmental/time factors the same before the actual project. For example, if you have an area to spray that takes 10 minutes to paint it, wait and warm-up/shake your next can(s) for 5 minutes and start the next coat. That's a total of 15 minutes. I know up to 20 minutes is also good. But 40 minutes was too long because that induced chemical reactions and severe wrinkling. I painted in the same order/pattern each time I sprayed a section. I had zero runs, spray errors, or reaction defects. The original paint condition was below average. No body rust, but 50% of clear coat was gone and hunter green was faded and rock chips galore.
Below is the weather, process and paint I used.
    1. Up to 3-mph occasional breeze is okay, anything faster or constant is to be avoided. Clear skies, for light, preferred. 20% to 40% humidity. Temperature between 50F and 72F while spraying. Warmed spray cans in hot water in a bucket. Shake them as much as possible.
Paints used on sides, nose and rear (3 sections):
    -- Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Gloss Navy Blue 2X Paint + Primer: 1 medium-wet coat.
-- Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Enamel Gloss Navy Blue: 2 medium-wet coats.
-- Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Enamel Crystal Clear coat: 2 light coats + 2 medium-wet coats. I think a 5th coat could be applied with no problems.
Paints used on hood, roof and hatchback (1 section):
    -- Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Gloss Black 2X Paint + Primer: 2 coats.
-- Rust-Oleum Universal Hammered Black: 3 coats (4th coat optional). ***Color dries gloss dark grey with blackish specs, not solid black.
    2. Sanded car with 100 and 150 grit dry paper by hand, with a scrubby dish sponge as the pad to fold the paper around. First, I sanded high defect/damaged spots...double their original size. Then I sanded vertically and again horizontally (cross hatched) the whole car.
    3. From this point forward you must walk carefully to protect from dirt contamination...do not drag or scuff the ground. Wet the surrounding area to help keep dust out of air. Douse car with hot water and wipe down with rags. Let air dry 30 minutes. Check that all areas are smooth/scuffed well...touch up as needed. Wash with hot water+dish soap and rags/sponge. Rinse well. Dry with microfiber. Air dry 15 minutes. Tape up as necessary. 10 to 15 minutes before paint spraying use a microfiber cloth and lighter fluid or mineral spirits (same thing) to wipe down the section to be painted. Immediately before painting wipe all surface with a tack cloth. As you're spraying move slowly and don't scuff the ground.
    4. Even in the open air you will want to use a painting respirator, but at minimum cover nose and mouth with thick damp cloth or N95/N100 face mask. Clear, tight fitting safety eye glasses work best...the larger goggles reflect light and make wet paint difficult to see clearly. I had to go without eye cover and just squinted my eyes when the paint spray was thick, because goggles distorted the light.
    5. It will take these paint formulas 3+ hours to dry to firm finger touch so leave it alone for 5 hours. I let it dry 24 hours in the carport and then put it in the Sunlight for 2 more days before driving. At 25 to 30 days I'll polish and wax it.
If you want to see pics drop me your email and I'll send you a couple.

If people are looking for a good clear coat from Bunnings. I used Dulux Duramax crystal clear the other day, several light coats then a wet coat. It really is crystal clear, super shinny & drys quick. $12 a can. I'd been using Rustolium products, but the Duramax paints are a far better paint in my opinion. The only problem I had, is I couldn't get a dark bottle green. So had to use Rustolium Hunter Green base coat, the darkest they had. That still wasn't dark enough. It seems a really dark green is something the paint companies could work on.

I have a question - does this mean I can do a DIY/Home car resto paint job using the safer 1K for all layers, and then take it to a spray booth to do a 2K clear and it will be just as awesome as doing 2K for each layer as you still get your UV resistance and toughness of 2K in the last clear layer?

Next time I’ll order my paint from you. I’m really confused because I thought I was buying all enamel spray initially, but when I read the fine print on two of them they say acrylic enamel.

Unfortunately, my van's slider door requires some rust/paint repair on all 4 sides, so I will have to paint edge to edge. Light blue metallic. I have a very good paint match based on my test card. Should I paint edge to edge and see what the butt match looks like, then go back to blending into the adjacent panels (rear qtr panel and front door) if noticeable? Or just blend from the start?

First, thanks for producing this video. Second, I have a few questions needing answers and clarification. 1) What is the main purpose for Primer coat? (You did not apply primer to entire panel. So why apply Primer only to sanded section?). 2.) You used a scuff pad on the outer areas surrounding the repaired scratch then applied base coat to sanded area then scuffed area of full panel. But, what happens if you do not scuff outer area and only cleaned with wax/grease removal then applied base coat? 3.). Does surface always need to be scuffed or sanded prior to base coat application? ( what is ideal grit to use?) 4) what is an ideal distance to hold can away from surface while spray painting panel? ; and 5) Is “orange peel” look the result of holding spray nozzle too far away from painted surface? 6) I noted you did not use any filler or glazing spot putty after sanding away scratch. Why not in this case?

I hope my question doesn’t get lost in the comments. I WILL USE CAPS TO GET YOUR ATTENTION! I noticed at 5:30 you said that you would simply apply scuffing paste to the part of the panel that you had not yet sanded or primed. So here is my question. I have a panel, already painted, and I just want to paint it another color. Do I have to prime this panel or can I just use some scotch brite? Thanks in advance! Please answer!

How much would you charge a customer for such a quality repair like this?

Excellent tutorial dave, could you do a guide maybe on the spray mask equipment you're using perhaps one day? that 2K is nasty stuff so im always curious what filters/masks you guys recommend for small jobs like this.

Gloves and a good 3m respirator if you can find one🤦‍♂️

@@urbankyng6467 i wear a suit when i spray this stuff too, what i was mainly interested in was filter types used in certain respirators that arent air fed. 2k is nasty stuff to get on your skin or breath in at all..looks so good though when sprayed by a pro.

Good to see another video. I'm having problems with my new paint being affected by petrol. Im using acrylic base and clear on motorcycle bits, but if there is a fuel leak or anything it ruins it. What paint should I be using?

Very good finish considering it's from spray cans but surely you are still better off with a compressor and gun, if you have them?

Very interesting but where are your gloves? What good is wax and grease remover if your un-gloved hands happen to rub against the panel? First thing I learned over 40 years ago, body oil (hands ,etc) can contaminate the paint. I do enjoy your channel.

    Very helpful video brother.
    I have few questions brother.
I have my bike in India, body colored plain red. Paint condition is good. But, I want to paint it Pear White. If you want to see bike search “TVS Apache RTR 180” so that you can have a look on size of bike and recommend me the quantity of each type of product.
I never did paint job before, but I wanted to do it and change color of my bike. Should I get it done from professional painter or can I do it on my own?
    Waiting for your kind reply.
    Thank you
    God much bless

Great 👍 stuff. What’s the best technique to avoid runs in your paint, given that you’re painting a panel that’s primarily sitting vertically?

Light coats and build up. Don't spray too much on at once and go left to right.
