I've always loved the brotherhood of steel since F1. There are some rough analogues in other fiction, but their original incarnation was still so uniquely Fallout.
Same. I've always felt the Brotherhood of Steel was the only faction that really had their eye on the ball. They're the only ones that directly and intimately understand *_exactly_* what caused the apocalypse, and they are the only ones actively working to undo the damage it caused and actually clean up the world for future human habitation. The Brotherhood definitely has rough spots - and that's exactly what you need to survive in the wastes. A rough edge, forged by a singular creed that points to an actual goal: not money or fame, but the survival of everyone. Adding to that, sometimes you DO have to be ruthless with your foes, and for that reason, you have to be strong enough to defeat those foes before you meet them. And that power requires temperance: the willingness to *_not use_* overwhelming power when it isn't needed: otherwise, you aren't worthy to wield it. The Brotherhood understands all of this. A lot of people like NCR for some reason, but Edward Sallow is right: they're horribly corrupt, greedy, and self-interested to such a level that it actually affects their ability to win a war against a technologically inferior enemy with far less resources to work with. They're literally destroying themselves through greed and lack of temperance. Some people might argue for the Followers instead, but they don't have the tools, creed or fortitude to take on groups like raiders, let alone any massive threat like the Legion, or - heaven forbid - the Enclave. In fact, they indirectly *created* the Legion because of their loose management. I cannot understand Legion peeps. There's *nothing* worthwhile about a fake-Roman warrior-Luddite lifestyle under a cult of personality. Same goes for House: he has a nice sales pitch, but regardless of his claims, he doesn't actually have a long-term plan, and only sees as far as his own power and influence in Vegas. Both House and Caesar have no real foundation, so their plans don't even last beyond their own life. The Enclave is simply the Brotherhood without temperance: a monster ravaging all it touches. They cannot create: they only destroy. If I was a random survivor living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, I'd hope and pray for a real Brotherhood of Steel to set things right.
@@nathanlevesque7812 Is that a joke? I don't care about Bethesda's nonsense. Fallout 3 and 76 can go hang. The Brotherhood isn't 'in decline'. The _Mojave Chapter_ of the Brotherhood - a small detachment that wasn't even prepared for war - is weak and trapped in Hidden Valley after the NCR attacked them with overwhelming force without warning. That's what the Brotherhood gets for saving the NCR from disaster in every game since Fallout 1.
@@nathanlevesque7812 We have no evidence that Lost Hills was defeated by the NCR. The Mojave Chapter was sent out from Lost Hills, so they would certainly have been aware of any war with the NCR: yet they don't mention any such thing. Instead, they were openly surprised that NCR attacked them in the first place. The only evidence we have of a Brotherhood loss is Salvaged Power Armor, which we know is from Helios One - which was the Mojave Chapter. In fact, you would literally need a bunker-busting bomb to penetrate the Lost Hills fortress by force. If the NCR can't get into Mr House's Lucky 38, they aren't getting into Lost Hills.

That was a really interesting video and it showed exactly what I wanted to see but it'd be really nice to see a part 2 that goes into the events of fallout 3 and 4 and the multiple different chapters of the brotherhood of steel
I'd personally love to see the lore of the Midwest Brotherhood from Tactics. They are just about the most powerful faction in the wasteland, and I would love to see someone with your skills tackle their lore.
Hey Triangle man, I saw a "leak" from the Fallout series, some bozo said it will take place during the BoS-NCR war in the west coast, near Vault City (wich will be under siege), I honestly doubt it but I saw some pictures and it showed the SuperDuper market with a lot of sand, wich to me it seems strange considering that there is no sand to speak of in the east coast, meaby it will take place somewhere in the Midwest?
By 2296, the East Coast Brotherhood of Steel is easily the strongest and most dominant faction in wasteland United States. The fact that they can project their power from coast to coast with the Prydwen and reinforce western chapters makes them top dog

The Brotherhood was a bit mismanaged in F3, where they were roughly beat into the shape of a "good guys" faction, rather than a somewhat zealous technology cult, but F4 fixes this quite nicely, and expands their story further - under the command of Maxon, the Brotherhood's actions in Boston speak of a faction which has forgotten its roots, and has started to take its initial guidelines as dogma. They now worship technology, yet only within the bounds that existed pre-war - the Synths, and indeed all machines possessing human-like intelligence, are called "abominations", they wantonly use Liberty Prime, an ancient weapon of war, to do the job of a simple breaching charge, they detonate a nuclear reactor beneath one of the few regions that survived the war relatively unscathed, they no longer develop new technologies but rather remix and repair older artifacts, etc etc. I think the most damning part is blowing up the Institute, because I doubt it was done for anything other than religious reasons. The Institute held research and technology that was eons more advanced than the brotherhood's own - from advanced weapons, to much better polymers and metals, to incredibly advanced medical and biotechnology, *teleportation,* etc. The Institute, had it been taken with minimal bloodshed, could have been a boon to the entire Wasteland. Instead, Maxon ordered it blown up, so any means of replicating the Synths, the "heresy" would be erased.
They don’t worship technology. Danse freely gives his laser rifle to you, they trade with the Caravans and are seen trading in diamond city if you beat the game on their side. Also, we see Senior Scribe Neriah develop a new anti radiation drug if you help her and they literally build devices that stop teleportation if you side with the institute. They destroy the institute cause it can make Synths, which when controlled are extremely dangerous. That’s the kind of tech they were formed to stop from being used. Plus they mention they have all the data they need off the drive you give them. Yeah it’s a waste no arguments there but the Fallout 4 Bos only sees the bad from the institute and thus completely destroys their existence. That said you can convince them to spare Virgil if he cures himself, showing that they can still tamper their ideals for the greater good. I think the fallout 4 Bos is actually an extremely interesting take handled badly by Bethesda. But it imo goes against what interplay and thus obsidian intended.
