My gf and I were watching a video on alternate history stories and they brought up fallout. She said "they have all of this in one story?" I've never loved her more.
The Brotherhood in Fallout 1 is very interesting when compared to how their descendant chapters are handled later in the timeline - Fallout 2 has the Brotherhood essentially in hiding, Fallout Tactics has the Brotherhood in a campaign to defeat a mutant army throughout the Midwest, Fallout 3 has the Brotherhood as essentially a resistance group trying to make the Capital Wasteland better, FNV has the Brotherhood in hiding while simultaneously in denial of their sorry state (similar to Fallout 2 but with more depth), and Fallout 4 has the Brotherhood as this massive military force on a campaign to eradicate mutants from the wastes. But in Fallout 1, they just kind of exist at this point. They've ventured out, they've had wins and losses, but the ambition (or complete lack thereof) from subsequent games just isn't there. Yes, some members want to branch out, and the Elders were said to argue constantly, but when it comes down to brass tacks they had no real reason to expand their operation. Not in the way of New Vegas, where they NEEDED to expand but chose to strangle themselves, and not like Fallout 3, where they were struggling to survive and didn't see a need to expand much when they could barely control what they had. The original Brotherhood simply didn't give a fuck😂😂
They had the biggest guns in the whole wasteland they saw no one else as a threat but as time passed other forces managed to match up against them and that changed how they could act
Tactics was much more grand, it’s campaign was essentially to secure the Midwest which started with fighting the Beastlord Raiders, than the mutant army who is being ran by a former B.O.S. Paladin then you got the Calculator as the final threat to finish it with a “tech used wrongly we must now destroy it” ending, with the subnarrative being the this chapter becoming one with the region as it is like you recruit Ghouls, Mutants and tame deathclaws in that game. Imo tactics is pretty underrated
Fun fact, a lot of this cut content is restored by a mod called 'Fallout Restoration Mod' by TeamX (same team that made the unofficial patches for Fallout 1). You can download the English version of the mod by using the link in a thread I started on No Mutants Allowed, titled "Fallout 1 mod Does anyone still have the Fallout Restoration Mod?"

That alternate origin for the Brotherhood is actually very cool and intriguing - I might toy with some of those ideas for the Brotherhood's depiction in my own writing
It's possible you would've used the Tape recorder to record the evidence of his betrayal, similarly to how you use it to get Gizmo's confession in junktown.
A Canticle for Leibowitz is a classic piece of science fiction. In the book Brother Frances believes a Fallout is a demon that possessed Leibowitz. When he finds a buried fallout shelter he’s terrified and confused. Why would the ancients build a shelter for Fallouts?! It’s a great piece of atomic fiction.
Note: that Canticle by Lebowitz bit was just the intro for the book, the book itself cointains three stories taking place in the same world but with in different places, time and characters
I really hate how Bethesda hasn’t given these games (1&2) a lite remake, adding in these basic elements of cut content, I mean they wouldn’t even have to record new dialogue since the game works fine without it for many quests and characters. But whole endings of the brotherhood and followers were cut even though they would’ve added a lot to the games. Only thing I think that should stay cut is those mutant raccoons; devs were right to think that they didn’t blend well with the rest of the world.
There's no need for it, nowadays we have mods like Fallout1in2 and Restoration Project that bring back a lot of the cut content, including the broken/unused endings. I myself am happy that bethesda aren't touching the old games
Cut traitor quest - I like more interactions with Vree and more quest in general, but I can't imagine a combat scenario in Lost hills bunker. I felt safe here as long as I stay on their(BoS) good side. Quartermaster quest - I think with more CH or something, he reveals he has crush on Sophia. But 4 pulse grenades could be reduced to 1(he also explains how pulse grenade works). But this quest could have been for high CH character who went for that kind of playthrough.

Even though the Honor code was cut, someone at Bethesda must have remembered it due to the following quote from one of the Fort Independence Terminals. "Always remember the fires that we were forged in. Those who forget are lost."
Bos also resembles comstar from the battletech in some ways however it might be converging ideas rather than inspiration from one or the other franchises
i always like bos the most in 1, in 3 they're this perfect image of honorable knights, nv they're just assholes that feel like if the bad ending of bos in 1 was canon, 4 was alright but also felt like the bad ending was canon and 76 should've just leave them completely alone. But in 1 all of those images of them are perfectly balanced, they don't seethe at the thought of someone using basic laser weapons nor they don't go out to help everybody in the wastes for no reason and it's bst summerized in their good (canon) ending "The Brotherhood wisely remains out of the power structure, and becomes a major research and development house".
One thing that I really wanted in fallout 1 was to have a dedicated “quest” for the Bos sure you have the quest to get in but nothing else which is a shame and why there so different from every game

In Fallout 2 the brotherhood is not hiding and you forgot about the brotherhood in Fallout 76.

It’s cool to know that some of the fallout devs were 40k fans, the brotherhood reminds me so much of space marines, it’s awesome
A lot of fallout 1's more techy graphics remind of 40k and starship troopers so this wasn't a surprise.
