    I’ve had my ZFlip3 for almost one year now and I absolutely love it. It’s so compact, it fits into almost all of my pockets, and it surprisingly still fits into some of that small pockets that old purses had for phones. I didn't take folds or flips seriously until this year. I'm an average user, and still had a Pixel 2. I don't normally care about upgrading, but the Z Flip 4 seriously appealed to me and I was excited to get one! I'm a lady with small hands & pockets, and don't use my phone too much throughout the day. The folding/crease doesn't bother me and the front screen is useful while I'm working. It didn't take long to get used to, and I enjoy how customizable it is too. I recommend it if you haven't upgraded in a while, or are looking for something a little different.

      @@Americaninparis2012 I have the note 20 ultra too. I'm still deciding on whether I want the Z Fold 4 or S23 Ultra. The single big screen is sweet but can be kind of too big for my hands with a thick case. And Z Fold is slimmer for my hands. Hard to choose lol since the new s22/s23 are great phones too. But having a tablet on the go is pretty sweet too.

    • @Americaninparis2012

      @@TXLandBill I ended up getting the fold 4 and I really love it. It's nice having the extra real estate for multitasking; I love it the most when i use the google map during driving and split screen with youtube for my daughter. There are some issues you should know about, although they still wouldn't have prevented me from getting the fold if I had to choose again.
      The main issue is how dirty the screen gets. It's really a smudge and dust magnet. The screen is soft so you want to be careful not to scratch so I wait to clean the screen until I have a micro-cloth. Second issue is some of the apps are still not optimized for the fold. I think it's Amazon prime video or netflix that won't allow for split screen like I can with TH-cam. I'm sure it will get better but so far, it's still lacking. The third issue is it doesn't house a S-pen. I use the pen often on the huge screen but I had to get a case that held the S-pen, which made the phone enormous. Forget trying to put it in your front pocket. If, you don't use the pen and don't need to put a case on it, it's not that thick so you wouldn't have such problem. Hope my info helps you in small way for you deciding which phone to get. Enjoy!!

    "Try more things" is literally LG's strategy back when they were the experimenters and Samsung kept things very conventional with the sole exception of the (genuinely innovative) Note line.
    LG's main problem was that they didn't find an idea that was an absolute banger the same way the Note was, so they kept squandering market share and never recouped their R&D costs.
    Those were the days HTC tried using camera with larger pixels, but lower resolution (before settling on dominating everyone in audio quality and build quality), Sony's name was still relevant and Motorola released not only mid-range phones with *gigantic* batteries, but even tried out Intel's Atom processors (they weren't very efficient or quick overall).
    Through all that, Samsung wisely focused on getting their Galaxy line to compete directly with the iPhone and marked the Note line as a power-user's device (back when that included _every_ feature available at the time; just look at the crazy things people could do with the Note 2).
    Now that Samsung is the last big game in town, they can do whatever they want. Their potential rivals are too small to spend lots on multiple iterations of a promising product (if it doesn't immediately rake in billions), or are directly affected by US trade embaegoes, while also lacking the advertising budget to generate hype.

    I have Fold 4. This is my first foldable and I love it! I wasn't very sure I'd like to keep it so decided not to reset my Note 20 Ultra for a month, just in case. I reset it the next day! The phone is just fantastic - the front screen is usable as a normal phone for every day simple tasks as emailing, calling, messaging, the big screen is fantastic for reading and multitasking. I'd say it like that - you would never know until you try it! Watching videos can help get familiar, but only using it can help you to decide do you want it or not.

Bought Beige 512GB and it was my best purchase for long time. the snapdragon is like 100 times better than crappy Exynos i had on my previous samsung phones. never lagging now and it so fast and efficient. battery is great. Watching football with the samsung standing case is a wonderful experience. I might never go back to a normal phone again. i thought the crease would bother me , but you cant even notice it almost. the only thing thats missing is the s-pen inside the phone like the Note series.

      Fold/Flip 4's 4th Gen UTG folding glass was SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than previous versions. Just make sure to promptly replace the plastic top layer screen protector if it ever starts to bubble up/come unstuck. Most people with cracked Fold's/Flip's took off the screen protector and never replaced it.
      That said, even the notably stronger recent foldable generations are still covered in shatterable glass without a glass screen protector on it to take any potential damage in an impact, so you'll DEFINITELY still want to be a bit more careful when it's open vs with a normal phone. 🤷

    Just wanted to highlight something regarding having a foldable as a tablet replacement.
    The main thing about foldables for me is the ability to have two different devices in my pocket with me all the time.
    That ability, is so far being ignored by reviewers who mainly focus on using the big screen as a bigger phone screen instead of a completely separate small tablet experience.
    The main thing I have observed compared to tablet users at least with my friends, is that they never use them.
    This is mostly because tablets are heavy and very big to comfortably use while relaxing on a couch or while travelling. They require you to carry them on a bag all day, hold them with both hands and also need to be charged and setup independently.
    Fold 3/4 and now the rest of the foldable phones, are light and just the right size, they are already in your pocket, already charged and ready to use whenever you feel like it. The switch from phone to tablet is seamless, you only need to unfold it and you have the same Android setup with all your apps there with their local saves, settings and customisations.
    My friends are always carrying their tablets when travelling, holidays etc. but no one seems to have them charged when needed or ever take them out of the bag. I use my Fold as a tablet all the time because it is not a big deal, wherever I am and quickly want to view a website, read my emails and reply, watch a youtube video or something with lots of content, to just unfold my phone and do it. They would have to get up from wherever they are, get their tablets, power up another device and then actually do what they wanted to do quickly...takes too many steps and time and all of them just end up compromising by using their smartphones instead. And when you have done what you wanted, you just fold it back to a phone and not have a big tablet taking space in your desk/table/couch whatever.
    To me that's the truly amazing thing that foldables can do. I feel like foldables should be reviewed a bit differently, as two devices, part of the review as a smartphone using the outer screen and then separately review the big screen as a tablet.

      They have to drop the price in order for it to beat the S-series and enter the mainstream, IMO. Having a 7.6 inch screen that fits in your pocket certainly sounds great, but it isn't worth 2x the price, *especially* since you sacrifice battery-life, durability, and camera-quality on top of that. As it stands, it's probably only going to be for enthusiasts and people with extremely deep pockets.

I don't need the bigger screen for productivity because the only work stuff I do on my phone is repsonding to messages and emails; I don't often watch stuff either, definitely not enough to justify the price increase. The smaller foldables look great (Z Flip) and I can see a potential benefit of less screen time, but not enough for me to switch ecosystem. I feel like the physical hardware is quickly advancing but someone still has to piece it all together to change the user experience of foldables that make it a step up from current smartphones? A bit like how the original iPhone redefined the smartphone, I feel like someone now can redefine it again if they can get the whole package together.

Samsung constantly pushes boundaries and sees what sticks, then Apple comes along and improves whatever catches on, which forces Samsung to improve it more to compete with apple and vice versa. It's insane how fast foldables have already matured. In just 4 iterations of the Fold and competing folding phones, all that's really left for it to do is keep working on screen durability, under display camera quality, and the crease. Honorable mention for software/UI. But overall, it's more or less already hit the point that slab phones are at where there's not really much new left for them to do.

    • @VMYeahVN
      @VMYeahVN 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Silver Joystix I know what I said and stand by it. It isn't that much. Those are just a few things compared to everything that's improved on these foldables so far.

    • @Cooe.
      @Cooe. 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @silverjoystix4696I've owned & used a whole BUNCH of different foldables over the years as this technology has matured... And everything he said was basically 110% bang on accurate. 🤷
      Now that fold-flat waterdrop style hinges are standard across the entire industry with the Fold/Flip 5 (aka the LAST major important foldable hardware innovation Samsung had been holding out on) it's basically just the usual gen-on-gen upgrades that we have to look forward to from here on out beyond Fold 6's expected slight rejiggering of its screen sizes & aspect ratios (think a Fold 3 to Fold 4 shift one more time).
      (Aka a new SOC, slightly improved durability [as Fold/Flip 4 & 5 were already both MASSIVE leaps forward on that front!], and hopefully some camera upgrades including better UDC's on the tablet screen, and maybe even some notable crease reduction if we're REALLY lucky that year.)

    I was really, REALLY hoping for a rollable phone by now. LG was rumored to be only months away from releasing one before their smartphone division folded, Oppo has teased one for years now, Samsung has teased one (rumored to be announced when the new Flip and Fold were unveiled). I'm willing to skip foldables if we can get rollables out on the market, tested, and perfected.

    • @Cooe.
      @Cooe. 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's because rollables are still an utterly dogshit ass unworkable concept with current flexible OLED display tech. 🤷 The tech is literally only good enough for showing off at trade shows like CES.
      They have all the same horrendous fundamental problems as outward folding phones like the OG Mate X/Xs from having the super soft, plastic screen on the outside of the device AND a bunch of unique durability issues from being motorized! (And they can't even use UTG folding glass either, so expect that awful non-uniform lumpy & mushy finger feel of a fully plastic Fold 1 or RAZR 2019!)
      By every meaningful measure at the moment a rollable phone is worse than a foldable with the same full size screen (aka extended/unfolded) in pretty much every single possible way but sheer "cool factor". The latter of which simply isn't enough by itself to justify mass manufacturing something SOOOOO ridiculously complicated & expensive! 🤷

  • @kasakka
    @kasakka 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'd really love a foldable but they are in that "It's almost there" phase still where you can expect that the next year's model is just that little bit better, while still expensive enough that it's a good chunk to put down. For me the booklike fold is better but I can see some appeal to the square flip type too. They seem like they could use a bigger screen on the outside so it can function as a square phone for doing things like answering a message or looking up a map or something simple you need to do quick and repeatedly when on the go. Sit down, fold it open and use like a regular phone.
