    The Husqvarna 450 Rancher is a great around the house chainsaw it will get you where you need to be for firewood, storm cleanup, and occasional tree falling. The STIHL and ECHO equal to this saw is the STIHL MS 271 wood boss and ECHO CS 490. Great video Cotontop.

    If it was my saw, I would have done a much more gentle break in. (E.g. start with some gentle limbing...) Heat buildup (piston/cylinder) is your enemy... What we see in the video is just full open throttle and maximum torque 100% of the time...
    I don't know for this model, but in the manual for my Husqvarna 353 it says prolonged full throttle should be avoided for the first 10 hrs of the saw life...
    Appreciate sharing this video, and congratulations with an awesome Husqvarna or "Huskey"!
    Cheers from Norway! 🇺🇸🇳🇴

      Good comment and good points, and I will go further and say a lot of folk believe in the ‘break them in like you'll run them’ philosophy? Every saw should have a minimum ‘warm up’ time, even if it’s just 30 -45 seconds. I prefer a warm up time I’d minute/ minute and a half. I agree with you on the way the saw was run, but the worst thing to do is use full throttle with no load! Chainsaws are meant to turn over at hig speeds, but some variance during break in is good. After running it should idle for a short period, not just shut down.
      I ‘ain’t no expert,’ but my 345 is still running after 13 seasons! 16 inch bar, and she screams for wood. I’m about to get either this saw, or more likely the 545 Mark II? Stay safe! I’m hoping and praying for y’all over in Europe. I have friends there! Peace

    I’ve got an old 455 Rancher setup with 3/8” skip on a 24” bar, great little saw... weighs nothing and sips fuel, perfect for limbing and topping in a landing...
    Keep em sharp and let em rev, they’ll make ya happy.

      Don't like the one bolt too tighten the bar for chain adjustment. The fuel & oil caps are going to brake. Those flimsy flip up tabs too undo and tighten.

      @@bombardier3qtrlbpsi What does any of that have to do with CT3 helping new owners be safe? A new user does not need to go out and buy a pro level saw for occasional home use.

    Dont understand why they call the 450 a rancher when it's a different body set up then the 455 and 460. I have a 455 rancher for firewood and I love it.

      I was thinking the same thing when I see the saw shifting around some in the gloves. There are gloves I've used while running a saw here or there, but it was grippy mechanics gloves that were all broken I. To my hands not these one size fits nobody perfect rawhide type ones that shift on your hands somewhere all the time. You can see the gloves and saw move in his hands at times when he goes for the top bar cuts.
      I prefer just bare paws on the handles. Even when it's snowing and blowing. Can't say my hands ever got cold while running saw. Handling wood, chains, etc while in the process of cutting woods, sure, but never when running the saw.

    • @ironmule
      @ironmule 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see how they work in gloves either. My Doctor wears gloves all the time. Why or how he does it I'll never understand.

    • @georgedavall9449
      @georgedavall9449 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well James, if you actually use a saw, the first time you cut your hand, checking the chain for tension, or running over the sharp chain, during handling, maybe you’ll understand. And I’m talking about when the saw is not running. They make gloves for a reason, and chainsaw specific gloves is what you want.

      I, for one, don't like getting gas, oil, pitch, and general filth on my hands when I am going to be driving my pickup.
      I always wear gloves when running my chainsaw.

    • @cotontop3
      @cotontop3  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The point is for him to get some run time with the saw. This isn’t firewood stuff and he wanted to make lots of cuts to get the feel. I hope that makes sense to you.
