    I own the 450 and the 455, I can tell you that the 450 is no slouch and its hard to tell any difference in power, It is just more pleasurable to use because of the weight, And I'm old and it makes a huge difference. I bring a few saws to the mountains so I have sharp chains at the ready, But I use the 450 as much as I can due to the fatigue factor.

    I just bought the 450. My other is a Model 51 Husq which is about 30 years old and still going. One is used primarily to cut out the other when it gets pinched because I misread the tension issue. I'm glad there was a special on which included a square case, as well as an extended warranty to 5 yrs after buying premixed fuel to begin the saw's happy life!

    My uncle is a Vietnam veteran he fought with the ninth infantry in 69-70 he is an old ground pounder. Nobody talks about Vietnam anymore, I enjoy talking with him about his year in nam when he feels like it. Today they were here in my house him and his wife helped me burn brush. He told me burning brush with diesel fuel brought him back to nam. He said they did that a lot.

      The 455 Rancher is a good reliable saw and one of the most popular saws Husqvarna has ever made. But I wouldn't be surprised if they give it some kind of makeover to help it compete better with the Echo CS-590 Timberwolf. Might be a long shot, but you never know.

      The CS-590 Timberwolf has been gobbling up market share for Echo for a few years now and helping open the door for sales of quite a few other models of Echo equipment. It's been a smart move on their end to keep it at that price point.

    I've had a 450 for about 12 yrs now. LOVE IT. Absolutely love the start/choke combo. Very convenient and not having to touch it again for restarts is awesome from the auto return kill switch. Did have to replace oiler w one from 455/460 when I put the 20" on it. Wouldn't cut it even cranked way up on adjustment

    I tuned my 455 and opened it up. I run a 24" bar and cut bigger trees no problem. And had it for 7 years now. I love that saw. So you can tune if you know what to do. It's possible. Good info you give though

    I've used a 450 rancher with 20" bar for the last 10 years that I bought new, it was the older model with decompression valve on top and has the old style fuel and oil caps. I also have a 460 rancher that I've used with a 24" bar. I grab the 450 every time over the 460 and it seems to cut much better with the 20"bar vs the 460 with the 24" bar. It cuts quicker and rips right through compared to the 460 and also weighs a lot less and you can use it all day without getting tired. The 460 needs more maintenance also and burns through fuel a lot quicker. I usually only use the 460 when I need the bigger bar.

    I have both and my 455 is the go to for bigger trees, 450 is great for limbing and smaller trees. On mine the 455 has much more power than the 450. In general if you're not using this saw daily, the 450 should be the choice if you're talking only one saw. My 450 has the compression release and both saws crank easy, the 455 does weigh more and will show at the end of the day, but it will also cut through bigger wood without helping it.

    I was in the "Orange" big - box store today. And could NOT decide on which one of these saws to purchase. I've decided now (after reviewing here) that I'm going w/450. I won't need the extra lbs or width accompanied w/455.
    Idk, how much it's a factor. But, didn't you mention that the 450 had a better air intake? It appears the hp difference, is minimal, at best. Personally, I welcome the 450's fuel indicator. Also, prefer easier access to the air filter, spark plug, etc. All things considered, it's a relatively easy choice. Especially, in knowing that I'm keeping extra Benjamin. 💯 Great video !

    I'm only considering buying one of these saws because I can put it on my tractor supply credit card but this is just so weird to me the comparisons why would you not have new style stuff on the more expensive saw . . . I will probably go with the cheaper one anyways because I don't like 2 switches for the choke

    • @wrench6122
      @wrench6122 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is only 1 lever for the actual choke on the 455. The other lever is the stop switch. It is a more durable setup. Same way for the fuel/oil caps. I know these 2 saws are both labeled as "Rancher," but the 450 is more of a Average Joe saw for the homeowner who cuts a couple of loads of firewood a year. The 455 is more geared towards the guy who is using the saw as part of his daily way of life. i.e. the farmer or "Rancher" Both are very capable saws, for what they are. Ultimately you need to decide which is right for you. Good luck.

    The good choice is the Husq 450, IMO, and I bought one a few weeks ago. Not because of the lower price but because it's much lighter than the 455 (but sturdy) and almost as powerful. The perfect all-around chainsaw.
    No doubt for me, if you're not a professional and want an all-around chainsaw, go for the 450.
    The 455 is just 8% more powerful but is 22% heavier ! Less than 5 kg is much better than 6 kg, believe me !
    But if you don't mind carrying hours long a 6 kg chainsaw, you'd better go for the 460 rather than the 455 ! Actually, the 455 has no reason to remain in the catalog.

  • @petehendry4756

    The 450 walkes all over the 455 . Remember the 455 has 3/8 pitch chain wich takes more power to run so the extra horsepower of the 455 is a wash . I run arbor max narrow kerf bars wich is even more of an advantage, i think the new 450's even come with narrow kerfs . The coil design is not a problem I've been using mine on a semi professional level for awhile now with no problems. Im a climber i do residential removals my 450 sees more use than the average firewood guy . The 450 is cheaper , bars are cheaper , chains are cheaper and its lighter , why the 455 exists i dont know . Some one said the oiler stripes out if you cut in extreme cold , not true ive cut plenty in below zero F° just use winter bar oil . When customers ask me i say get a 450 if you realy think you need a bigger saw skip the 455 and get a 460 , it's th same power head just a different cylinder and piston, same size , same wieght, more power . A 460 with a 24 " bar will do things the 455 and the 450 won't......just sayin .

      When they came out with the 450 Rancher it immediately cut down on the sales of 455 Ranchers based on price alone. But then after people started using them and seeing how well they run, it really started cutting down on 455 sales. Now with the price increases it's going to make the 455 Rancher an even tougher sell over the 450 Rancher unless they do some kind of rework on the 455 to make it more appealing

      hey just looking at buying a 450. I read reviews that the chains come off due to the single bar bolt. Comments?

    I have a 440, a 450, and a 372. The 440 on the limbs, 450 on the bigger stuff and the 372 on the main trunk over 18 inches. I love my Huskys! Friends dont let friends Stihl.

    wow machines are so much cheaper in North America esp the US. The 455 is $1290 AUD and 450 is $1135 AUD here in Australia

    I hear a few people say to go with the 450.. and throw a 18" bar on it.. makes it just a bit lighter and it's a beast! guess it depends on what you are cutting? might try both? I just now bought and ordered the 450 rancher! so I'm excited...lol can't wait. the poulan is going to have to sit out a while..

      Congratulations on your purchase. The 450 and 455 are both good all-around saws so you can't really go wrong with either one. But with the lower weight, lower price, and close to the same performance as a 455, the 450 is a great deal.

    Great Video. Much better comparison than the sales rep in my local tractor store. I was on the fence between the two, but now I’m leaning towards the 450 based on your review. Thanks so much👌🏽.

    I have a 450 and a 455. I like the 55 on big logs seems to cut better use the 50 on limbing to 15" material. Wish the 50 had adjustable oiler usually run winter grade oil in both so gets to the bar better. Love both saws dad's 290 still is no match for either one

    I have a serious genuine question, is the older 455 Rancher different than the new 455 Rancher. Have they changed any in last few years or all of them the same exact technology. I'm really needing to know this

      im not 100 percent sure but i have a newer one and it didnt have the baffle in the muffler the older ones have also husqvarna website says max bar 24 inches where alot of the older videos say 20 inch max bar i run the 20 inch but i wouldnt hesitate to put a 24 on it i mostly cut maple cherry oak and pine .i try to keep the rpms high and not push to hard and dog it down and it cuts very well and is super easy to start

      I can't sat whether or not the 455 Rancher has changed, but I have new 450 Rancher I purchased during the Black Friday sale at Tractor Supply Co, and one I've have for about 6 or 7 years, and the older one has the compression release and the standard fuel and oil fill caps, whereas the new one has the flip-up caps and No compression release valve. I can interchange the bar and chain though. I'm glad that didn't change.

      The problem these days is that there are more "warm bodies" than there actual knowledgeable sales people in the power equipment business.

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you kidding? Salesmen these days don't have a clue. Last time I bought a new car the sales guy didn't even know what engine was in it.
