so I teach a drawing class at a art store and perspective is always the first topic I go over but I always have a hard time explaining it thank you for explaining it so well I feel that I can teach my class more efficiently now
Haha true. I never had troubles with straight lines. I used to trace good straight line in early highschool, but, god, I struggle with elipses. o matter how much I sweat trying to make then fast and clean. I just mess them up. You just have to keep practicing and practicing. ot only watching videos
In general you shouldn't use your wrist to draw. Use your shoulders and thinks will be a lot smoother and you prevent injuries in your wrist since it's actually very vulnerable
In 3 point perspective when you said let this be the base, my reality started to crash in on itself, once it became the top, reality got restored. Thank you kindly.
I do follow the vanishing points; however, I don't do the perspective grid. I draw on a large enough area to put a piece of tape or a drafting dot where the vanishing point are and use a long ruler to do more complex perspective. One thing in this video that I find in three point perspective that your audience may find they may do, is worms eye view where the third vanishing point is above the horizon line. Otherwise good video!
How do you decide where to put each perspective point? What impact would you be going for if you move perspective points around? Some examples would be nice. Thanks
I found this video, it’s pretty long but I hope it helps. Also I know it’s more than 3years ago, but why not 😅 th-cam.com/video/YDanHdjPJVs/w-d-xo.html
This guy knows what hes talkin about; there could b a whole nother video about what u are asking: language is not my strength, so i hope this makes sense- the vantage pooints are directly related to where the sun is relative to the horizon on the drawing u are working on(this can get very complex…but it gets easy as u draw for many years… you should experiment with it for a long time) so the lines coming of the vanishng points, can be thought of as the direction of the light emmiting from the sun, goin in that direction; as u learn more, this brings then shadows into play and what direction or place to put them- theres alot more, but just work on that for now, 1 step at a time.
This is really cool man! Thank you. I am going to have fun playing around with this. I love that you did this with a pencil and paper vs. a computer. Some kids these days feel as though one cannot truly draw anything without a computer and that is totally not true.
Super helpful seeing you draw through the backs of the boxes and extending the lines to the vanishing points. I didn't understand that there is no guessing involved when drawing perfect perspective, though in practice there is tons of guessing when freehanding lol
Thanks for this video i am happy to get a start on learning this more easy because i hope to use this for animation to make a better visual background.
actually no. this actually is one of the easier things to do. only when you do some really complex stuff, you might need some good imagination, but there is nothing wrong in using reference. it is actually always good to use reference.
Tysm I wouldn't consider myself a "beginner" but I haven't practised any perspective yet, just characters and I think that's a mistake. This was super helpful and you explained everything so well. I had an art Block, my faces started looking wobbly and non-accurate, but I think it's because my lack of motivation on drawing. I tried perspective too, but this tutorial saved me from that hole. I will set on some alarms because I think consistant drawing is very important! You got a new sub man you are great😁
This is better way of showing simple perspective. One told me on FB after I shared my very rough sketch with perspective and told me that not how you do it and not the right thing to evaluate how much it could cost. He didn't know what's behind it. The sadness behind it. I drew that not to show perspective. A simple draft of a tiny condo looking unit. That is for myself and for fun I shared it too. Yes, things now are far expensive that I thought!
You can use thump tacs and string to get perfect lines without the perspective grid. For 2 point just tie a string to each tac and stic each tac in a vanishig point...the you can pull the string in the center to wherever you want a corner or line and youll have a perfectly aimed straight line for every single line you make. Its pretty simple and rad and stops all the grid scratches and erasing. Have fun
Thank you ! I was watching 2 different videos about vanishing points and I was so confused. This makes so much more since. Thanks for the clear explainations. Wonderful video for me!
Good refresher, but now with a little more of an experienced eye, theoretically, you should be able to create a "stalactite" with the three point perspective, following the lines upward, right? And, how about other shapes created with the three or two point perspective, like a pyramid, sphere, or cylinder?
It's funny, the best thing I learned was using dashes to show lines behind things. Might sound silly but I never thought of that and it is soooooo useful for me. The perspective lesson helps a lot too. Thank you for your video!
I'm in a college level engineering class in my high school, the teachers been gone and none of the subs know wtf is going on. You just saved my ass. Much respect
Great tutorials! I see that perspective is very important for 3D and dynamic effect in drawing. Also I like your tutorials for artistic anatomy studies. It helps me very much.

Wow, that's cool. I'm glad I can help instructors.

Use a ruler
Step 1. Use a ruler.
Hahha love it
You can use a straight edge XD
I tried this and was happy with the results until I tried drawing humans In perspective!! 😭
When i draw humans and i go to the eyes i see satan in them
I just draw furries
Just study anatomy and apply the same principals to your perspective studies. You'll get there!
Its the opposite for me
are you Ugotsnibed in CD
Not only are you very talented but you also possess a rare gift for imparting your knowledge. Thank you.
He isn’t talented, he is skilled.
@gabrielavila5892 saying the word 'talent' doesn't magically erase the practice that goes into one's craft lol. i wish people would get over this
These lines look like they were drawn by a ruler.. ♡
Now this is a skill that differentiate between one artist and another...

If you think that three-point perspective is hard just search up four-point perspective. You will like what you find.

Yeah, that's the thing, most people don't draw on large pieces of paper. That's why I suggest people get use to visualizing the point off paper.
Great video - really appreciate the way you explained it so clearly. Feel more confident about trying it now. Thanks!
Cool.
