I feel that the age group of people who watched the prequels as kids were not yet at the point where they had a great enough disposable income. Today is a much different story though.
@@grogu1238 I agree that the market for this is extremely small. Completionist collectors basically, or fans of this specific larger scale. Unlike some of the current sets, which are trying to appeal to a larger fanbase and offer play features as well.
@@grogu1238 there's only ever been 4 prequel UCS sets. The sample size is so small it's basically impossible to infer anything about the prequel market. I guarantee if Lego released an oversized UCS Jedi interceptor in the post COVID age of collecting, it would sell like crazy.
Agreed. While I’m a bit of a different case since I was born while the prequels were releasing and not already a kid, this era of Lego sets was a renaissance for me and my generation, and I even remember my fairly older brother getting some as well. However, unless if you come from an upper-class family whose parents happily share disposable with their kids, it’d be near impossible to spend that much on a set. Not to mention, if you had the opportunity to get it, it was a 600 piece decent set in comparison to a lot better packages for the same price range.
There are so many sets like this. Even some that I own. I’ll see them on my shelf and be like “Oh yeah, I forgot LEGO made that and I bought it.” Then I’ll forget about it thirty seconds after I stop looking at it. 😂😂
I think UCS sets that can easily be minifig scale sets are pointless. Why not make UCS Jedi temple for example, or Kamino I think that would sell like crazy
This is a thing even (old) Star wars figures did. They simply released a ship, like an X-Wing, with no figure in it. You had to buy that seperately, which is ridiculous by today's standards .. and probably by 2010's standards as well, which is why people ignored it.
I ALWAYS had the opinion, and still stand by that, that a minifigure is for sets that are scaled to contain it. The UCS Slave 1, the Millennium Falcon, the Lambda shuttle. I was 6 years old at the ToysRus, looking with HUGE eyes at that UCS X-Wing and Tie Interceptor back in 2000. It really didn't bother me that there was no Luke or TIE Pilot, they wouldn't have fit into the cockpit anyway.

Obi Wan's starfighter took up about a 1/3 of Episode II, it's probably one of the most important ships in the saga. Still surprised it gets overlooked as much as it does.
Thanks for clearing this up, I thought this was some obscure ship from those movies. All I remember from seeing those movies was Jar-Jar binks and Yoda doing flipflops with a lightsaber. Those movies were certainly something else.
It honestly wasn't that iconic to me, I liked the Episode 3 version more. Tho tbf the EP 3 one looks more battle ready which fit the battle of Coruscant.
Something I don’t think was mentioned but 2010 was only 2 years after the start of the recession. I don’t know about anyone else but my family was not in a position to get a $100 LEGO set
My UCS Sandcrawler was assembled with no issues. I got it at release time. Had it in a temp controlled room on a shelf, no direct sunlight, etc. Took it apart about 5 years later and 3/4 of the parts disintegrated while doing so.
There is actually a trick to preserving old minifigures with the special dark colors. Carefully losen the tight joints and just never taking the arms and hips apart ever again. Surprised no one ever talks about the tightening of the joints that occurs over time (might even happen to those who barely play with their figures).
So far I've rarely had a minifigure break. There are maybe 3 or 4 minifigure arms from all the way back in my childhood that have broken wrists, where there is a crack at the end so the minifig hand no longer has the friction to stay in the arm. There are quite a few 'loose' joints though, which comes from taking the arms and hips apart many, many times. So far I've heard this happens most on the 'brittle' colors, when they got first introduced, so past 2000, but not in more recent years.
Hi David, I remember walking into Lego and seeing this on the shelf back in 2010. I asked one of the employees about the set when I saw the picture in the bottom right hand corner with the UCS plaque and display sticker I said, but this isn’t titled as a ultimate collector series she responded it is they’re just not advertising as it is, she also said I recommend that you get it if you’re an avid UCS collector. I purchased the superstar destroyer the Imperial shuttle within that 2 year frame. I bought three of Obi-Wan starfighter UCS# 10215 one on the shelf being displayed, one gave as a present and the other one still sitting in box. Point is David you’re right I almost missed this set completely! They didn’t advertise it well at all. Box art missing UCS and that wonderful UCS gold seal that has disappeared from today’s sets (so sad). Also at that time 2010 prequels weren’t that well received. People just overlooked this set. I’m super happy I talked to that employee that day and now enjoying it for 14 years. Oh the dark red pieces have been solid no breaking what so ever, even though I’ve move it and pick it up twice a month to dust it for 14 years 336 times picking it up with not one issue! The decals are stuck on the ship like they were put on today, no fading no peeling. Keep up the great work and vids!
3:27 I’m old enough to have seen the OT in theaters, and I stood in line on opening weekend for The Phantom Menace, so it’s been fascinating watching the shift in aggregate opinion around the prequels over the last ~decade. I understand that context and comparisons make _some_ difference, but the prequels literally haven’t changed, so the degree to which opinions of them _have_ has been surprising.
The sequel trilogy did a lot to help people appreciate movies that at least did some things right. The prequels also introduced a ton of lore and have gained massive amounts of media set in that time expanding context.
Sounds crazy, but this is probably my favorite UCS set ever made. I'm not kidding. I haven't had the chance to buy it yet, but I will someday. A true beauty.
This is the set that got me back into Lego after my teenage years. I remember thinking "wow I never realized they produced these huges models". It all got out of control from there haha
Y'know, i think the straight flat positioning for the stand actually looks quite nice, almost like an official aircraft model you would find on an officers desk.
I was 10 when this came out and Ididn’t care for it because kids like me didn’t care for a set if it didn’t have a minifigure. Several years ago I bought it new in box. Truly a fun build, looks great on display, and I love spinning it at a high speed since the stand allows it.
The reason R4-P17 doesn’t come with a body is that she didn’t have one - she was literally just a head in Episode II. That’s why she never leaves the ship. She was later upgraded to have a body by the time she appears in TCW, which is why she’s in a different part of Obi-Wan’s starfighter in that show.
I didn’t even know this one existed when I was a kid. Some of the local box stores near me didn’t carry them, and the closest Lego store (that I didn’t know was there) was an hour out of town in a mall that we never went to.
Only about 3 years ago, a year before coming to university, did I reignite my passion for Lego and since then I've gone to town on finding out about the latest sets and building my own MOCs as well as starting to build up a collection of sets away from home and from my childhood. Star Wars has and always will be my favourite Lego theme...and I had no fricken clue that this UCS set even existed hahahaha. I don't remember ever seeing it in any of my Lego encyclopedias and history books. Edit: Just finished watching the video and I think the set is okay. The stand definitely needs options for angling and the inclusion of minifigures. The suggestion you made of a Droideka being included was excellent. I do love the design and shape of the model as well but I don't think I'd buy it today truthfully. In all honesty I prefer the ROTS Jedi starfighters so if we got UCS versions of those then I'd snatch them up in a heartbeat.
I managed to get all 3 sets back in the day (and an extra SSD that I sold last year). Obi-Wan's starfighter is the only one I haven't built yet. Now I'm nervous about the red bricks...
This is one of my favorite Star Wars ships but in 2010 I was in college and still many years away from reconnecting with LEGO. Totally would have picked this up at those prices!
The spin the bottle bit at the end 😂😂😂 i remember saying the same thing about this set back in the day. “This set was whack” now with all the stuff Disney has done to star wars it makes me appreciate this set and makes me want to get this as well. Episode 2+3 are my favorite all time movies and i hold those dear to my heart
As a kid seeing it at Legoland I really wanted the set, but never got it. I tried making my own with the pieces I had, that’s why this set is nostalgic to me
thats funny, i knew what set you were talking about when i saw the thumbnail and title, I saw this set sitting on a shelf for years at a local toy store here in Brazil.
My parents bought this set for my brother who kept it sealed for awhile. When my brother moved out he gave it to me and most of the dark red parts now are either chipped snapped in half or in my bins.
I actually have room to display ucs sets and it looks amazing when they’re all together. I like minifigs too, but when casual people see the display and realize it’s all Lego, they compliment me for my nerdiness
I get that the dark red brick issue is a confirmed and now resolved problem. But it’s a little blown out of proportion. I collected LEGO extensively during this era and have never cracked or broken a single dark red piece.
I would love some CIS UCS sets. A Lucrehulk, The Invisible Hand, the Malevolance, even just a UCS hyena bomber would be super cool! Plz lego make one of these!
This set brings back nostalgia for a lot of people who have been into lego since childhood. I got into collecting leg over a year ago. For the same reason this set is so appealing now compared to the time when it was out, I am getting Luke's landspeeder UCS even though a lot of people think it is not a good set. I disagree. It is a good set. I am getting it during black Friday and years down the line people will appreciate it more. My favorite SW set that I have is the Mos Eisly master builder series.
This set was actually one of the first UCS sets I've ever gotten. First was the original 2002 Star Destroyer, this, then the Shuttle. I really wish my family had the money at the time to also get the SSD. It's one set I really wanted and likely won't given how much they cost now. But I'll definitely settle for the new midi-scale one. It not being mini-fig scale never bothered me because UCS sets aren't meant to be that. If they were, the huge capital ship sets we all love would be HUGE!. Mine has been in indirect sunlight or in storage in my moves for all throughout the 13-14 years I've had it and the pieces haven't shown signs of the faults
Price per piece generally looks better these days because they use much smaller pieces. That’s why I ignore PpP and look at product images to see how much volume there is.
I thought you were going to pull out the UCS B-Wing for a second there. This is one sleek looking ship with the Republics signature red and white color scheme, would have been nice to see it alongside the Gunship.
All i want is a minifig scale build of this ship, with the more accurate proportions of the UCS one! I love this ship, but as usual ended up very disappointed when i held the most recent model in my hands. It looks wonky as hell.
This ship is my favorite fighter size ship in Star Wars. I recently picked up the play scale one which I love the value of at $24. Ever since Episode 2 I just loved how sleek this ship looked. It is very basic and aerodynamic looking but i love it.
I remember on my birthday list back then I had the plo koon starlight, that apparently was on sale at the same time. I guess my grandmother just went to the Lego store and asked for the jedi starfighter, and got this. I still have the set on my shelf today.
11:32 I don’t think you were in any real danger of broken parts. Everything I can find says the brittle years were 2012-2017/2018, so well after this set was manufactured. That’s certainly been my experience: the only brittle dark red or reddish brown pieces Ive encountered that I know for certain the set they came from are from the Parisian Restaurant, bought in Jan 2014.
Me being an absolute prequel fan this and the Slave 1 Ucs are actually my favorite UCS sets 😁 Im probably the only one but I absolutely love this as a display piece. (always reminds me of episode 2 kamino and the scenes flying to Geonosis)
I would probably buy something like this today if Lego made a product like this. It looks like a good size, I just would hope the price per price would be better
i have the 2012-13 republic gunship which i got for christmas and i still have it to this day. and the stickers are still on, they aren't pealing or cracking
It is funny because I just watched attack of the clones last night (the movie that this set is from) and I have to say that even for 2010 standards, this is extremely accurate to what you see in the movie.
I loved Obi-wan's starfighter. I have the first starfighter set they released. But when I saw this, it was just too plain/simple looking to be worth $100. And at the time I was just graduating college, so I didn't have anywhere to keep much less display a collectible set like this. I imagine a lot of others who might have bought this set were in a similar situation, hence the lack of sales.
Yea this set came out in my Lego dark ages around my early teens when I wasn’t into Lego so I missed it. Snagged a complete (minus the sticker which I can technically just print anyway) for $101 in 2020 tho so can’t complain
I personally like this set. I have a few minor issues with the overall shaping, particularly around the nose, but overall it looks great. Especially since I wall mounted it.
I absolutely cannot wait for when the sequels get the prequel treatment and everyone starts loving them, they're so good and they need more love, especially from Lego
this came out during the golden era of lego, but the fans who were interested in this set were too young to drop 70-100 bucks on a set with no minifigs. for 120 at that time, you could get the gunship, the AT-TE, venator and lots of other for similar or cheaper prices. they should definitely bring back prequel USC. i would love a USC Episode 3 Jedi Starfighter.
These types of sets that are large UCS scale ships are aimed more at the model making market who collect the Revel Star Wars kits or the Airfix cars and planes and the like. LEGO presents these sets in a way that's just a display piece like those models I mentioned with a nice looking stand and a display plaque. Whereas a majority of LEGO's customer base mainly consists of children and adults that mostly prefer playsets and vehicles that they can just build and play with until they get bored.
Ppl were smokin crack not buying this back in the day. I bought this back when it was on shelves and to this day hold it as one of my top 5 UCS Star Wars sets.
I don’t remember why I didn’t buy that one, I did buy the SSD and Tyderium so it could have been a money thing, or it could have been that I prefer the Eta-2 Starfighter from Ep3 over the Delta-7 from Ep2. Had they released the Eta-2, it would have been a must-buy
I remember not wanting this set solely because it didn't come with the iconic ring. Obviously that'd have ballooned the price, but I feel like they could have done it.
i own this and im proud that its one of the rarer sets i own along with my UCS chrome plated Naboo starfighter, i just really wished we got an episode 3 jedi startfighter in UCS scale to go along with them - whats funny is back then i remember the the chrome plated Naboo starfighter and this Jedi starfighter both being on clearance when i got them in the UK Lego sets used to hit clearance super quick back before scalpers and resellers ruined it
It was my first UCS set back in 2011. It's cool. Unfortunately my white parts are slightly yellowed and the stickers got porous. I replaced the stickers with 2nd brand ones
I may have passed by this set at a ToysRUs or Target back in the day as I thought it was just a regular set. A UCS set with only 670 or so pieces? The box didn’t say UCS anywhere on it and it just looked no different than other sets that had the same size box. Lego should have have made the packaging way more identifiyable as a UCS as it easily look looks like a plain Jane set when you first come across it.
Yo, I've got an experiment you may be interested in giving a shot, to save stickers from the great peel. How about covering them wth clear fingernail polish? Seems like it'd work.
To be fair the droid not being removable is accurate to the in-universe ship. The Delta-7 had the astromech essentially built into the ship as the way the wings were designed with how thin they were didn't really fit a full sized droid port, something they later changed for the Delta-7B model you see during the Clone Wars. Of course that being said many LEGO sets of this ship do it anyway for the sake of playability, I'm sure, but it is a UCS model.
I had not been following or collecting Star Wars Lego for some time so I didn't know about this existing. When I strated to get interested again I tried to get one but they were just too expensive and combined with the small size/piece count and lack of figurine turned me off anyway.
Hey Solid Brick, I’m only just now learning that Lego can become brittle and or lose its clutch power over time. Some people saying their built Lego Star Wars sets becoming loose after a few years built and on display. Do you have anything to share about it? What’s your experience? I’ve had blue, dark red and brown from the 2005-2009 break on me.

That is, without a doubt, the first time I saw a review on the set as none of the TH-camrs review it yet (for me at least).
Glad someone saw that 🤣
As a kid seeing it at Legoland I really wanted the set, but never got it.
This is one of my favourite UCS set and I totally love it, I find it smooth and elegant. I've bought mine just a month ago
I actually have room to display ucs sets and it looks amazing when they’re all together. I like minifigs too, but when casual people see the display and realize it’s all Lego, they compliment me for my nerdiness
I love they used proper sized R2 unit, I hate the non minifugre scale xwing, ywing etc use minifigure R2's
that was an R4 astromech, his name was R4-P17. He was killed in the Battle of Coruscant by buzz droids in 19BBY
Literally one of my all-time favorite Lego Star Wars sets, absolutely awesome!
Damn, that’s the one I’ve been waiting for ever since I got back into Lego.
I hope they rerelease it.
This ship is my favorite fighter size ship in Star Wars. I recently picked up the play scale one which I love the value of at $24. Ever since Episode 2 I just loved how sleek this ship looked. It is very basic and aerodynamic looking but i love it.
I still have the 2002 version of this set my brother bought at the time... which technically is the first Lego Star Wars set I ever saw. Good times!
im 99 percent sure i had this set as a kid. i was rlly young, but the box for the set is lying somewhere in a closet in my house lol. thats crazy
I remember on my birthday list back then I had the plo koon starlight, that apparently was on sale at the same time. I guess my grandmother just went to the Lego store and asked for the jedi starfighter, and got this. I still have the set on my shelf today.
I remember coming across a picture of this, but wow, I did not remember it, and would not want it
would love to see a potential review of the UCS AT-ST, really want them to remake that set
The printed two-by-two republic logo tile is on the outside. So, there is a least one printed piece not hidden inside the cockpit
Just bought one second hand with the original stickers not applied but included. can’t wait for it to arrive
do you plan to do another room tour anytime soon?
Funny how many more people have begun to notice the problems with the dark red and brown pieces in the last five years.
Yea this set came out in my Lego dark ages around my early teens when I wasn’t into Lego so I missed it. Snagged a complete (minus the sticker which I can technically just print anyway) for $101 in 2020 tho so can’t complain
I assumed that the least popular one would have been the Naboo Starfighter set that was normal size, just with all the chrome-plated pieces.
Bought it, like it still, except for the sticker and yellowing. Once refreshed and my room done, this sets totally gets back on shelves.
My parents actually bought this for me for Christmas in 2011 I believe. Good memories!
Isn't the R4 unit head printed too? In the video, you mentioned that the only printed piece was inside the cockpit...
well no wonder my captain rex y-wing is still in back order.
3:08 drops the starfighter, breaks every maroon piece
It would be so cool to see another executor class 😩😩 with the new techniques and building would look so good
I like this set. Whats ironic is people love the republic gunship ucs set but that set is VERY oversized. Yet they both look very good.
I remember not wanting this set solely because it didn't come with the iconic ring. Obviously that'd have ballooned the price, but I feel like they could have done it.
i had it lol. when i tired to disassemble the set, all the brown bricks were so brittle they broke when i tried to pull them off
While I wish they did release more $100 UCS sets, I feel like this and the Landspeeder just work better as minifigure scale for whatever reason.
I see that Sith Fury-Class in the background. I'll have my own someday...
i own this and im proud that its one of the rarer sets i own along with my UCS chrome plated Naboo starfighter, i just really wished we got an episode 3 jedi startfighter in UCS scale to go along with them - whats funny is back then i remember the the chrome plated Naboo starfighter and this Jedi starfighter both being on clearance when i got them in the UK Lego sets used to hit clearance super quick back before scalpers and resellers ruined it
It was my first UCS set back in 2011.
I have never seen a Lego Set with literally 0 sales. Is this the first one? Crazy!
I was super excited to grab the mini version of this
I’ve had this set sitting on my shelf since 2011
Yo, I've got an experiment you may be interested in giving a shot, to save stickers from the great peel. How about covering them wth clear fingernail polish? Seems like it'd work.
That might work, but it would also give the entire coated area a very glossy finish that would stand out when viewed from most angles
Hey bro, when is the Geonosis finale coming? So hyped for it. 💯😃😎
1:23 damn you’re easily looking at the executor, tantive, at-ot + dropship, Death Star, imperial shuttle and Endor playset above Obi Wans jedi starfighter.
