Part 1: • Building WOOD FIRED HO...
My buddy Dennis puts together a custom designed stainless steel hot tub from scratch for the off grid cabin in the woods.
We use mostly stainless steal, a lot of welding, and plenty of ingenuity to build a custom made hot tub for the off grid property.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

The actual term is: "Don't LOOK a gift horse in the mouth."
This refers to the fact that you can tell a horse's approximate age by the condition of their teeth; the more warn the teeth, the older the horse. This is a major consideration when BUYING a horse, since the price should reflect the number of serviceable years they have left. Thus a 2 year old horse would be worth considerably more than a 20 year old horse.
The whole POINT to the saying is that; while it's EXPECTED to check the mouth of a horse you're PAYING for, it'd be rude and ungrateful to do so when you are being gifted the horse.

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

I read the entire Ryan's th-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan's Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan's Shed Plans.

i remember my Nana telling me that the phrase never look a gift horse in the mouth was a saying to remind people not to be rude or ungrateful. horse people look at a horses teeth when buying them, so if someone was to give you a horse (gift horse) then you woul insult the giver if you looked at the teeth to see the " quality" of the horse. im unsure if thats a true explaination, but thats how Ive been taught 🤷‍♀🤷‍♂🤷😄

That was a lot of fun to watch. Thanks for the project. Maybe build a small changing closet attached at the wood burning end, enclosing the burner? So you end up with an 'L' shape.
That would provide a space to keep the wood dry if it was raining, keep the change closet warmed up, and direct the smoke higher if you added a taller chimney to exit the change closet roof?

Nice work. You need to install the tub closer to a place that is warm and dry so when you get in and out you won't freeze. When you get out, you will freeze before getting clothed again. I have mine right at my back door. Consider paddling the water to mix it before getting in and that would help with the hot spots.

Neat project. The hillbillys in Kentucky have been making similar units for quite some time now. So how do you empty the ash from the stove? Would have been nice to have built one end of the stove adjacent to the outer wall of the tub ,welded it in and you could have installed a stove door with air control vents. Need a solar powered circulation pump to even out the tub temps. A bubbler would be nice too.

In the old days of horse auctions, inspecting the horse's mouth would reveal telltale signs of the animal's good or poor health. Pre-auction inspection was common, so people could know what they were bidding on. The expression "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" means that if you are given a free horse (as a gift), don't be so petty as to go checking out how good or bad a specimen it is, especially in front of those who may have given it to you.

You could weld a pipe from the far end to behind the heater and install a minuscule water pump. This pump can be powered by a peltier element using the energy of the wood. This brings colder water to the heater, increasing the delta and increasing the heat transfer. The energy loss from the pump is almost zero..
