I'll take 35 Watts on channel 19. Instead of 40 watts on the adjacent channels.. I'm no radio tech I would assume that clean radio would out perform in the real world. Nice video keep up the content

    Smoke Stack Lightening!
    That Radio Was Frightening!
    "Clean and Mean out-talks
Over Watt Splatterboxs all day long."
Analogy = variable pattern nozzle on your water hose: You are attempting to wash a large, scary spider off the side of your home from a great distance.(long distance transmission) Adjusted to a large spray pattern, (over driven wattage) you are simply soaking the spider (splattering onto other channels) and irritating it (other users on nearby channels.) Adjust the nozzle to a concentrated spray, channeling all the water (watts in the radio) on the spider (the channel you are on) and you will accomplish the job with maximum efficiency using less water! (wattage) Matt, you stated that I have a way with words. Indeed, my friend. My intent is to educate and entertain with no malicious intent. I have no more than a high school education and a desire for further knowledge, that is self taught, with a ravenous appetite. My profession as a "Comoddities Relocation Transportation Engineer" has given me the opportunity to hone my language, teach and resist the type used on the air ways. I educate innocense, rarely tolerate ignorance. This has resulted in being nicknamed "THE PROFESSOR". Matt, you have a way with radios that also entertains and educates.YOU DO RADIOS RIGHT! If you find my verbal musings are disagreeable, to or your subscribers, I will cease and desist. If you and your subscribers find my anecdotes amusing and educational then I will cotinue. "The most humble man, is he that seeks only to humiliate himself." From the teachings of the Stonefaced Grasshopper. Truck Driver, Radio Operator, Musician, Martial Artist and Philosopher. Not so extraordinaire.
Humbly, I am off the key. 😑

Hahaha I needed that 👌. We need more drivers on the air like you . Being witty and friendly on the air (19) is in the past . You remind me of Lucky Star , he’s in my area of Tennessee. I’ve been talking to him on the radio and meeting up at CB breaks since 2004 . I was a Deputy , then a Trooper for 12 years all together , left on good terms but I just got burned out 6 years ago. I always had a loud, clean radio . That surprised most drivers , Troopers today don’t know how to work nothing but a cell phone , an Xbox controller and a ticket book, but that’s another story . But I made friends with several and always respected the challenging profession of being a truck driver ,, or commodity transport specialist or whatever that was you called it hahaha ,, when I was off duty in civilian clothes when people asked me what I did for a living , I told them I was a babysitter for grownups 😂😂😂,, or a traffic crash reduction safety specialist. The looks I got in return 🙄🙄. Anyway , be safe out there , if you ever find yourself cruising down I-24 through Manchester, Tn ,, if I’m at the home 20, give us a shout on channel 28 . 73’s to you ,
      Cowboy 🤠

@@Dallas-Rife-UDX-347-Tennessee Dallas, I appreciate your come back. After almost 45 years of trucking I plan to retire this fall. I have been a "Suicide Jockey" for my entire career, hauling HAZ.
MAT. (Flammables, Corrosives, Poisons and Explosives.) But nothing dangerous, you understand!!! Always complied and worked closely with Law Enforcement. Over the years I have also extended offerings of free instruction to Military, Law Enforcement and Protective Services in Martial Arts. Yes, I am a rare breed from the days gone by, with no plans to change. I have seen your comments on other u-tube sites and would be honored to call you a friend. 73's, from the Grasshopper.

You mentioned upgrading the rear power jack to a metal jack. Do you have a part number for the upgraded jack?

Help, have a new 29lx, hooked it up, tuned it, working good, then POP! Like a fuse blew, Radio still works, but just fails antenna check and no Tx or Rx. Its possible the coax cable rubbed through and shorted, or maybe something else. Any ideas before I tear it down and buy new hardware?

Yep 35 unusable watts usually. That's also called setting a radio up blind. 73

Again, I like what you’re doing is showing showing a trapezoid patterns. Great job keep on showing the CB is what it’s all about your real radio shop. Can I like what you doing buddy?

Just wondering if anyone has tested or used IRF 520's, with what I've found, that have 93w output? Will these work? I've found 48w (that was the norm back in the day), 60w and 93w outputs. Want to know if it makes any difference. Thanks

@ 5:25 ,, I know why it popped , it’s a MOSFET. I’m not a tech , but I hate them . If I had a quarter for everyone I know including me that had an upgraded MOSFET that let the magic smoke out for no reason , I could buy us all a beer . I have a handful of original 2SC1969’s ,, when I need a final replaced I grab one from my stash and take to my local tech . They’re good for a clean 20/25 watts in most applications and that’s all I need . Just my 2 cents . Great repair Matt , always a pleasure to see you work on the bench 👌.

    • @TheRadioGarage
      @TheRadioGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You know I think your right! They do sometimes seem to pop for no reason..could be the fact that we are trying to use them as rf power fets when in reality they were never intended to used like this. They are just simple switching mosfets. I think I might try an actual rf mosfet in a conversion and see what happens..if I ever get time 👍🙄

Yeah ?? I had no idea that they weren’t really intended for RF cb transmit ?? We’ll talk about that one day when I get time 👍

Oh boy! I am a dinosaur! Has anyone ever worked on a vacuum tubed radio? I am not sure I even remember how. Matt, you are correct on the Grasshopper name. Stonefaced is from the fact I am stoic. (American Indian Blood). Grasshopper is from the pilot movie for the 1970's series Kung Fu. The scene in the monastery garden with young Caine and Master Po. In the Martial Arts world, I was often called Manslaughter. Ouch!!!! 😖😖😖😖😖

I have upgraded IRF 2030 plus’s in my Stryker 447 and have absolutely NO problem. Matter of fact every radio in ever had a problem with Mosfets. I took out my 1969 final in my Galaxy 66 and replaced it with a IRF 520 mosfet and it fine. I have alway upgraded to a Toshiba voltage regulator as well.
