Love the diy videos. You are truly contributing to keeping the hobby alive. It’s fun to talk and sound good. But it’s more fun to sound good when I modded it myself. Plz keep showing troubleshooting how toos and mod how toos.
Nice job, I have no receive or trans, PA works. The Cobra 29 Chrome I have has different pcb board that the one your working on. My pcb board has a date of 1-2007 and manufactured in China.
Hey I have the same radio. How it has stop transmitting, receiving, and no sound is coming from it. How much does it cost to fix these things. How I send it to you?
Good day I just picked up a 1985 Cobra 90 LTD meter shows 9 watt dead key external meter shows 2 watts I can t find anything on the net but how to make it louder. Which leads to my main problem keys up but produces no audio out through the meter or on pa. any advise would be great there are no shops that work on radios here.
I just bought this exact CB from a pilot. Needless to say I'm not getting anything positive on my radio checks. I calibrated the SWR/ antenna using the radios meter. Maybe that's my first issue. Magnet Mount Wilson lil wil is all I can use on this van.
I have a Cobra 25 WX ST with no modulation and no PA. Do you think that I have the same issue? When I key up, the power needle moves to the left instead to the right and cannot do a cal for my antenna. Also, when I plug in a PA speaker and switch to PA on the CB, I can hear CB chatter like I plugged the speaker into the ext speaker jack and tried speaking and I can barely hear my voice with the dynamike turned all the way up. Do you think there are multiple problems or the same issue that's in your video? How do I send it to you for repair, and what are your rates? Thanks!
Can you help me? I have a Uniden PRO-710e I'm trying to figure out why it doesn't have transmit or receive. The PA does work. The receive/transmit lights are working and change properly when I key the mic -- just no carrier / no modulation / no audio at all. I've replaced several caps, took voltages, looked for broken traces, replaced audio chip and tried different microphones, etc. I replaced the final and driver transistors. The only thing I'm finding is voltage not correct at the PLL chip. I've checked down the line to what powers the PLL chip on certain prongs and can't find anything wrong. Then I replaced the PLL chip and same results. Also, IC-5 is getting warm quickly, even after I replaced it. Ugh! I have a paperweight right now and really don't know what to do with it. I've tried everything I know with my limited tools and knowledge. Any suggestions at what I could look at? Also, do you know of any transistors in the Pro-710e that may be put in backwards because of incorrect print on the board? I heard that can happen from time to time.
@@TheRadioGarage I'm just getting back in radio repair biz after a 20 year plus hiatis .... Wow a lot of things have changed , any chance to get new info from you ????
What about weak modulation? my volume is up, calibrated but not tuned. Every driver says that they barely hear me and i can't figure it out. It's a stock CB and Mic from Mack Anthem

@@TheRadioGarage Thank you i had one a long time ago you do good work i subscribe to your channel . I fixed the cobra 29 i check all the volted i found the problem was a bad mic wire on the on output mic gain ...

I have a cobra 29ltd chrome and does not transmit or receive, also when pressing on mic its not putting out power, would replacing those capacitors fix it if so where can I buy them???
Sinad being done by ear? Now that is funny. Yes, like you said you definitely need the proper test gear to get accurate readings in order to verify specifications.
I'm seeing it happen more and more. It goes like this "ok let's check the signal to noise on this reciever, wow that's really good!" No sinad meter in sight..sigh 🙄

I’ve got a galaxy 259 the modulation comes and goes any recommended checks?
Great video thanks..
Glad you enjoyed it
Where do you go to get your schematics
So did those bad Caps take out the audio chip and transistor or were both of those ok in the end?
The audio chip was actually still ok. Shorted cap was the issue. The caps they use in these newer 29's are very cheap low quality products.
Hey do you install nitro rings behind the knobs? I run at night a lot and it would just be neat to have lol
Do you have a website or Facebook page? Looking for more information on what you do and prices of your services.
Is the xtra bass from the mic or a mod in the radio ??
I opened up the frequency response in the mic plus I made changes in the radio as well. Mostly though the changes in radio are more noticeable.

You have a coupling capacitor somewhere in the audio circuit chain that is probably going bad.

Could be a capacitor but could also be numerous other things causing the issue.

I have 2 now that do the same thing.
Check your PLL voltages make sure they are correct.
