Don't know if you could have plugged it, but how do you travel and not carry an emergency plug kit and air compressor? Standard kit for even my commuter rides.
Yes I have the mushroom type kit and air pump that I take with me everywhere. The whole was about an inch long gash in the tyre so no chance that was sealing with the best plugs 😂
Possibly yes! The plugs definitely have their uses but I've ridden with them in for 8k miles on previous tyres and it's been fine, whereas I always have to replace the rope ones after a few days
Same happened to me on my Wales trip few weeks back! Made it 3 mile before the rear was punctured, managed to repair whilst fueling up though! Always a bummer with punctures, glad you made it, sort of !
I just removed my 8k mile road 6 rear tyre and I was quite shocked at how thin the carcass was, the centre felt so thin, weak. It wouldn't stop me buying them again but worth noting.
It would have taken hours to get there as we were so remote, and they would have taken the bike to my home address if they couldnt source a tyre too, so not much different to me doing it. If I couldn't get a replacement, I would have used them to recover the bike home
I started filming my 2 year review at the weekend 😉 shame about the tyre but at least I got one sorted! Would have been a pain in the backside to leave the bike there and get it recovered home
Sorry that happened but glad to see it’s not just me who had a rock put a hole in the tire. It was my first ride on my ‘23 KTM 1290 SA-R, didn’t even get 100 miles in😢. Proper pucker for the rest of the trip I’m sure for both of you
Ahh no you too?! It sucks seeing it because you know it's not a quick patch job! Managed to get a tyre so it just meant we had to rush the rest of the passes a bit
@@SamVBikes Had to suck worse for you because you had a passenger and was actually doing something. So coming back from Blighty on my way home to Switzerland…. just before boarding the ferry at Portsmouth rear tyre took a lump of steel…. About 3cm wide and 8cm long… 🫣 instant flat !!! No one in Portsmouth could help… so plugged it with 4 worms and hobbled onto the ferry… during the crossing called garages in Caen France most closed but one answered said they’d open early to get me sorted… ! thankfully I’m always prepared for punctures (especially on longer rides) even have a manual foot pump…. Which saved my arse because even with 4 plugs I could only ride 2 kms before I had to re-inflate the tyre again…. So probably inflated it over 30 times…. I wouldn’t of made it if I only had CO2 bottles… 🫣
Corr that's not fun! Its so difficult to get a tyre same day for anything like that. If I ever win the lotto and can afford to set up a huge company, it will be a stockist across the country that can get to you within 2 hours with a guaranteed tyre in your size! I have a battery one which lasts for about 5 full inflates before it dies, and charges off usb so could theoretically charge it off the bike, but very clever idea to take the foot pump!
What an unfortunate interruption to the day's proceedings, I'm glad you were able to find a replacement. At £134.17 fitted it was reasonably cheap although not a tyre of choice if choice was an option.
Very well put! Yes it wasn't my pick of tyre choice but I was surprised at how capable it was once I started pushing on a few days later! And the main thing is I got it replaced!
I just ordered the Road 6 but found out they were marked tubeless when I got them. Is that the same as you have, and is then ok to just fit them with a tube? Sorry for seeking advice here (Michelin is not answering at customer service).
😂😂 I'm sure I saw a post saying that some Continental tyres are magnetic... it was probably an April Fools joke, but it was on the Internet so must be true haha
Yeah bit crap but at least I had the car to blast around in trying to find a replacement! I was pretty surprised it came up with Tyre Puncture too on the screen
That sucks mate. I bet you don't get another puncture with the battlax, so many people get punctures with the Michelin pilots. The tread pattern seems to pick up debris. Have a great ride 👍
Ey’up Sam, You keep getting problems with the GoPro, have you thought of trying the Insta one RS. Mine seams faultless? I can lend it to you for a month if you wanted to try?.
Hello! The GoPro only seems to fail when I've got stuff plugged into it. Media mod, external power etc. I stuck with GoPro as they seemed to have the better mic solution but apparently not! I've got an external recorder now which seems to work well and because the GoPro is sealed again, it's not playing up!
Very! It's all outlast, fully waterproof, AAA rated etc. Endured the full force of an Ireland trip and not a drop got through! Fantastic things. It's the Halvarssons Racken jacket and Rin trousers
Haha! We did the WAW last year in June. Had quite a few good days, but also had a few 7hours+ of days with relentless sideways rain, hail and wind. I was warm and dry haha!
I popped a rear tyre in the LD too! On my VFR800 coming into Keswick past the pencil museum, felt the rear go squidgy, then went round a tight left and, BANG!! as the tyre came off the rim! Scared the shit out of a couple of window cleaners. Fortunately, my breakdown rang a local garage who repaired and sent me on my way.
@@SamVBikes yeah, fortunately I was only doing about 5mph round the corner, bolt upright, wasn't leaning with it being soft already. The garage mechanic did such a good job with the repair, I went & didn't Wrynose pass & then back to Teesside. Replaced both tyres the next day tho. 😂

It's the Touratech one, both the bar it mounts onto and the locking case. Really good pieces of kit. The mount is a big metal plate that goes behind the TFT so it's solid
Really unlucky to get a puncture from a stone, let along anything else. Silver lining, it could have been worse, it could have gone halfway up Hardknott!

if it's a BT023 there a damn good tyre.
I feel like the rope plugs would have sorted that. Saved us a few times now, fixed cars and land rover punctures with them too
Possibly, it was about an inch long slice in the tyre so it would have been a very dodgy seal and wouldn't want to have ridden on it too long
I had a similar puncture and I used three rope plugs with the tyre glue and it was a perfect seal.
