    Thank you for the guided tour of your Espinner, I love my drop spindles and my traditional wheel but can see one of these in my not so distant future. Like you i live with sciatica so to me it makes a justifiable purchase. happy spinning Ange.

    Thank you for sharing your process in learning how to use the e-spinner! I have one, but my first attempts have resulted in broken yarn and frustration, so I've gone back to my drop and supported spindles! Watching you trouble shoot has encouraged me to try again!

    • @YarnNYarns
      @YarnNYarns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gail, thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a lovely comment too.
      I definitely found working with the espinner a very different spinning experience than my treadle wheels and spindles, but now that I have gotten used to the differences I love using mine.
      I’d say if you can start at a slower speed and a fairly loose tension to give your hands and mind time to adjust to the differences and if you can play with some fibre that is quite forgiving, perhaps a nice medium wool rather than a blend or something that might be on the tricker side to spin even when you do have a good grasp of your spinning tool then that might help too 🤞
      I do hope you are able to get past your frustrations, it’s always a learning curve getting to know something new, whether it’s a new wheel, new fibre blend or spinning technique and I think as adults we can be a bit hard on ourselves if we don’t get things right straight away 😃
      Good luck, and I hope you come to enjoy your e spinner as much as I enjoy mine 🧡

      @@YarnNYarns Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my message, with such thoughtful advice. I will pull some "friendlier" fibre from my stash, and slow everything down, as suggested. When I first moved from drop spindles to supported spindles I thought I'd never produce en even yarn, and now I love my supported spindles. With you words of wisdom, I will tackle my e-spinner again tomorrow!

    • @YarnNYarns
      @YarnNYarns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh that’s so exciting I’m here cheering you on and keeping everything crossed for you.
      Totally agree about the support spindles, getting started on that journey is such a huge learning curve isn’t it, but after some trial and error with them support spindles are my favourite way to spin 🧡

    I have one and I knew not a thing about spinning when I bought it! I've been told its harder to spin on then an traditional spinner. I'm learning! Enjoy your new toy!

    • @YarnNYarns
      @YarnNYarns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope you enjoy it Gail. I don’t know if I would say it’s harder but it is definitely different. With a traditional wheel you have more control over speed and can stop/slow down/ speed up your treading of there are parts of your fibre that need some slight adjustments but with the espinner it’s just going to keep on going unless you bring it to a full stop or reach to change the speed dial. I’m having a lot of fun with mine though 😃

    Yay! you got your E spinner! Thank you for taking us through. You ... almost ... have me convinced that I also need to make yarn. I dare say I need to knit through a bit more stash before I delve into that adventure. I can see a gnome knit with that. Looking forward to your other spins. xx

      @@YarnNYarns That is ever so naughty. I would like to give spinning a go, however at this time I have 5 shelves worth of fabric that I need to sew down before I expand into another craft. And let's not look in that bin for all my even weave projects. Thank you for making October a finishing month - I have plans to get loads of things finished. I did make a very good dent in September ... except taking photos lol

    Hurrah, it's finally arrived 🙌 😀
    Enjoyed seeing you getting to grips with it. Looking forward to future adventures in e spinning. Hopefully I may learn a thing or two. Mine is sat here at the side of me, shamefully not being used! Andy has tried to show me the ropes. I know it's just practice really. I get frustrated because I don't know how to fix it when it goes wrong.
    Sure you'll be spinning some beautiful yarn can't wait to see. 💕🌈

    • @YarnNYarns
      @YarnNYarns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can understand that Angela it can be frustrating when you first start out with something particularly if things don’t go quite right, but as you say practice makes things easier.
      Maybe try getting it out for 15 mins a day, even those small practice sessions soon build up and you’ll be a pro in no time 😃

You make spinning look so much fun and relaxing. I may have to invest in a small spindle eventually. I'm loving my eSpinner too!! Got almost 2 full bobbins. Not tried plying with it yet though. I know I've enough of the Advent Rolags to make the Cowl with. The yarn is a bit "thick 'n' thin" so I'm thinking of using it as it is.

    Didn’t know about keeping Lazykate under tension? Is that only with an e-spinner? I am a newbie spinner on an inherited ashford wheel - not sure which one, maybe the traveller. My bobbins just flow freely from the Lazykate when plying - don’t even see anywhere to tension them. Loving your podcasts - a recent discovery for me.

    • @YarnNYarns
      @YarnNYarns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mary thank you so much for watching. I’m so glad to you that you have been enjoying the videos.
      Not all lazy Kate’s are tensioned the other one that I have isn’t. I think some people love them as they help the singles stay under tension and not get twisted up so much before you want them too 😃
      This was my first time using one and as you saw I took mine off of tension as one of my singles was under plyed and kept breaking under tension so I think like everything else new it will take a little bit of getting used to 😃

    • @ashfieldguild
      @ashfieldguild 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mary Walton not all lazy Kates are tensioned. It can be helpful if your singles are fresh or highly twisted, it avoids tangles 👍🏻 You can add tensioning with a couple of screw eyes and some nylon thread set to run through the grooves of the bobbins 😁
