    I just ordered the Ashford a few days ago . I've gone from a " NO way !! " Recall seeing first Hansen at Trade show nearly 30 years ago - felt it was missing the whole point of spinning that I loved .. a kind of dance involving hands / eyes & feet! Lately , spinners I admire seem to be acquiring them , none having buyers remorse ! Was feeling unsure if It would be an expensive book end that I'd have to label in "case of catastrophe" .As I grow older I think of these things . My family left to clear out the studio - A $5 sticker along with every other weird wood object with no apparent value unless you belong to this community . I have appointed a BFF FIBER / CRAFT FRIEND 👍🏻. Over the last two years , I've been able to get back into my spinning and weaving . My 7 kids are grown , and even done with grad school - 😊 It took me a whole 6 mths to realize I could sleep in - another 6 to think I could take out the looms and wheels from hiding ! Active boys make forts in looms and tie one another up in teslov . I admit , I miss those days sometimes , but phew it's kinda nice to take a long shower 😉 I was able to try An Ashford 3 recently. Cobweb spinning even longdraw seems to be my default spin on it What ? Yep . If I'm enabling / tempting you my fellow spinners - I'm sorry . This isn't typical for me . I m older/ wiser and know there's many ways to get a thing done and some tools elevate your skill .( very very fine spun woolens and plying ..) Its much easier to achieve this lovely usually time consuming on a wheel type of spin with an electric wheel . Much as I would use my electric whisk to make whipped cream ... it adds to spinning pleasure - I'd never want to stop using my wheel or spindles ( different tool for the desired yarn or mood ..) . How did my feelings about this alter so much ? I don't say answer would be the same for everyone . For me this art / craft we love evolves right along with its creator . Its impossible to ever be finished learning all there is to know about it, or have any one experience end without leading my thoughts into the next "what would happen if..." or "How can I ...?" Or even simply if what comes next is I feel like the easiest possible knit or spin where I can just be .. For this feeling , the sheer pleasure of creating something beautiful or useful , a whole other thing than it was - I can find something to keep hope for the next day . During these surreal months we've been waking up to , I'm surely more glad than ever to connect with others who express themselves creatively . Each one of us is perfectly unique . We each have different talents and tastes , yet by the nature of being a creative soul - we observe , listen and recognize the absolute existence of beauty and value inherent in our differences.

    I couldn't decide between a traditional wheel or an eSpinner, but after watching your video in March 2020, I chose the Ashford eSpinner 3. I love it! During Covid19 lockdown I have learned to dye yarn and raw fiber, spin, and weave, fulfilling a life-long dream. Thanks to TH-cam videos, I was able to invest the money I would've had to spend for a craft school, on my own tools. Thank you for posting this video.

    Me too, I managed to start spinning by getting an espinner. For me, it was breaking the learning process into smaller bites that sold me. I wanted to spin right away, I have 3 kids and a full time job, so just a very little crafting time. Learning to spin on a wheel felt overwhealming... Learning how the wheel works, how to threadle, the different ratios... On the espinner I just have to learn drafting and plying. I love it! Some day when I have more time I want to get a wheel and learn the whole process, but now isn’t the right time in my life for that.

    I currently have a CPW that is my main wheel. I also have an antique (over 200 years old) German flax wheel that is considered a travel wheel...though I don't travel with it. I'm so terrified that something could damage it. I've been been seriously considering an e-spinner. I love that people are starting to get into them more because of all the information that is now out there for them.

    I was gifted a very old single pedal spinning wheel which I love but I also purchased an eel e-spinner to try out. At the moment I prefer the older one, probably because I'm still just a total beginner. I am getting better at drafting so we'll see where this leads. I also just purchased an Ashford Knitters Loom from someone who upgraded. Haven't used it yet. So many projects and new things to learn! I'm loving all of it! I bought an Ashford E-Spinner (bit larger than a '3') a few years ago when the spinning I was doing was causing pain (or at least aggravating it) in my knee. I have loved using it and over the Christmas holidays will be planning on spending some time spinning again - prepping the fleece takes me a while. The jumbo bobbins are twice the size of the normal bobbins, so I actually spin onto the normal bobbins and ply onto the jumbo. Then my finished balls of yarn are large, rather than having lots of smaller balls.

    so, i think i have more fun when i spin on a contraption i have made from junk... it may be more work, constantly turning a wheel by hand, or using unconventional parts as handles or levers...but when that old bike, lazy suzan or sewing machine is useless... THINK AGAIN.
    as well, i'm not afraid of breaking it because it's a free machine! haha :) i do think i'll make an e-spinner from an old sewing machine motor, though... i see a comment about no apparent buyers remorse, sounds like a guaranteed success...

    Watching this video comes at a good time as I am thinking about buying the e-Spinner 3. I'm curious if you feel the same, nearly two years afterward of recording this, regarding your enthusiasm for spinning on it. I have a double treadle Lendrum wheel, which I love, but as you noted the portability issues make me less inclined to want to spin frequently. Thanks for the info about the e-Spinner 3. Helpful to hear how others feel about a product one is thinking about buying.

      @sweetgeorgia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! I still love this e-spinner and actually took it out of town with me and used it for the past two days to ply four skeins. It’s very very portable and great for spinning when you’re out and about. For the past several months I’ve been able to sit down and spin after dinner for a good chunk of time, so I have been using my Lendrum Saxony to spin singles and then I ply them with the e-spinner ☺️ it’s worked out very nicely!

    I don't really get how the Hansen experience is different from the Ashford? I would have thought the Woolee Winder would have made it even easier to focus on the drafting. The battery pack is cool, wouldn't you be able to use that with the Hansen?

    • @sweetgeorgia
      @sweetgeorgia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you can use a battery pack with a Hansen. It's my understanding that the Hansen minispinner was originally designed by a husband for his wife who wanted to be able to spin on their boat... so I imagine using a battery pack would have been part of the equation. I had a Woolee Winder for the Hansen (when I owned one), and it was lovely to spin with.

Then I got an e spinner and huzzah! I figured out spinning! I found it really easy because really all I had to learn was how to draft and the spinning was already taken care of.
