- My friend and fellow TH-cam creator @be1441 recently gave into my pier pressure and bought himself a 2001 Jaguar XJ8, with a lovely 3.2 litre V8 under the hood. What's more, is that he's gone ahead and completely straight piped it from the manifold... and the result is ridiculous...

I was grinning all the way through the section from 12:15 where it’s just wide open. I wouldn’t normally have any interest in chopping an exhaust off but that sound is incredible!

Joel, DO NOT sell the 760Li! The Jag may be a nice car to have, but I'd buy one in preference to the CLK or the Boxster and keep the V12... there are so few 760s in the country, you'll never find another one for sale at that kind of money, certainly not in that spec. I will never get rid of mine, even if it has been a pain in the arse and currently doesn't run!

@@-1jjk334 Well, the N74 has been in production well over a decade now, so I'd expect it to be a known quantity in terms of what can go wrong with it.

You can actually buy a kit that sticks over the whole of the existing liner. It's HUGELY less stressful than attempting to just glue a section back down!

@@ItsDanLatham The problem with doing a section is exactly that. It's more than likely that another part will start drooping in the very near future. Not to mention that your attempts to gump the existing liner down might end up making other parts worse.
You can get kits for the X308 for about £150, and it (pretty much) solves the whole roof in one fell swoop. And you don't get any nasty crusty glued areas either.

That's one awesome XJ8!! I love that straight piped exhaust it sounds awesome. I'd love one of those in the future as well as an XK8.

The green key is the Valet key, it will not open the glove box or boot lid, there should be two black keys as well , lovely car.

Sounds great! Owned jags for the last 25 yrs, one of my current fleet is a straight-piped XJ12….
That key is the valet key so won't open the boot or operate the glovebox lid. Also, it looks from this video like the thermostat tower is leaking. Best to replace that asap, since they can basically explode. Coolant all over the place and these engines don't tolerate being cooked. For a relatively cheap and easy replacement, it's not worth ignoring.
They all do that - the x308 thermostat was plastic, there is an aftermarket metal one that nearly every car ends up getting installed.
Wouldn’t touch the car without proof of the tensioners being changed. Headache.
@@user-li8sx4yj4s yep. First question I always asked when I was looking for an XJ8. The guy who I bought my car from claimed it was done, and later said it was not done when I requested receipts of the job. He didn't realise he had sent it over lol
Hi i had a jaguar v8 3.2 the exhaust on mine was blowing a bit but I actually loved the verble of it.. I took it for mot and never got it it back sadly..
I would however love another Jaguar in the near future and being born and bred in Coventry 1964 to date.

I got the jag Xtype and the head lining is gone in that too. Some people say the xtype is just a mondeo tarted up but i disagree the roof lining thing deffo makes the xtype an authentic jag 👌
But in all fairness it does sit on a mondeo chassis with a mondeo engine and fwd so they are not particularly Jaguar! Infact not anything like a old jag
I had one very similar in my late 20s it was a XJSport 4.0 manual box which ive never seen before, it was a great drifter.
Funnily enough I did a very similar thing to my Jaguar XF 4.2 V8 ... although my process is fully reversible . These Jag V8s sound great ... especially with straight pipes !!!

Beautiful exhaust sound! Just as nice as any new +100K sports car on the road. Jags V8 was and still is an amazing V8 engine!!! I wonder how the 4.0L sounds and better yet the Supercharged 4.0 V8!???

Absolutely LOVE IT!!! I've owned a Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 and I did the exact same I cut the exhaust off completely just after the cat and my god WOW... What a noise... I my owning a V8.. I'm very tempted to buy one of these XJ8's... I Know the are all rotten underneath.. But the sheer driving experience and instant grin from the V8 is worth it 😁
I used to have a straight piped Jaguar xj8. Was not me that did the mod, I bought it that way. It was utterly hilarious, but sadly written off in a no fault on my part accident. This video brings back memories haha 😂
Love this idea which my mechanic suggested a month ago. I bought a.beautiful 1995 XJ6 we are using it as our camp car for SKALLYWAGS. An all pirate theme park. We will install straight thru pipes with. Glass Pac mufflers to tone it down slightly. Great video. You convinced us

I own several jaguars. X308 s x308 r a couple x350s. I really enjoyed the cars they had extremely reliable and cheap to maintain.

Just replacing the back boxes with straight through boxes gives a nice rumble and retains the looks. Just run it in sports mode all the time and use premium petrol and the old girl with not disappoint.
Nice car, I just picked up a nonrunning one. The valet key tip can be trimmed to function as normal.

I've had the x308 Jaguar (Vanden Plas / Daimler 4.0) and it's a fantastic car with far more character than anything from Germany, but driving my V12 760li is on another level. Joel, yours transmission is busted - the Jaguar XJ transmission was like butter and throttle response instant, but the 760li is much more sporty when sport mode is engaged, there's no comparison - if yours doesn't give you that sensation then it's malfunctioning.

Having done an X Pipe and Back Box Delete mod..I can't begin to imagine the droning on the motorway with this!
Straight pipe vehicles don’t drone as much. Less resonating vibrations
Put the old exhaust back on it and drill some 10mm holes in the airbox before the air filter. About 10 to 15 of them. Car will be a quiet cruiser. But when u put the foot down. Makes a lovely sound.

The jag looks in lovely nick, hopefully it came with full service history. But does it have plastic timing chain tensioners? Look forward to the water pump going then the head gasket? Lovely to drive but money pit when they go wrong.
I had an xk8. The green key is the Valet key darling! Yes was the start of the Ford era. Brilliant but they do rust. And, the AJV8 engine is notorious for restrictive exhausts! Possibly 20bhp with a straight through.
Damn, i want a similar sound on my XJR, any idea where exactly he cut the exhaust? is it just the cats and center muffler?

If you like that, you should try the one that came after that, the X350. I had a diesel one after many years with Mercedes. The Jag was absolutely sublime.
Yeah, the X350 XJ8 is a very underappreciated car... all that aluminium construction technology and they made it look like an American approximation of the 1968 original...

I have a 2007 Range Rover Sport with the 4.2l SCV8 and it has been straight piped. 122 decibels. Incredible sound. Do yourself a favour and get one! Yell out if you would like a video of the noise.

Idea for fixing roof lining . Buy can of spray glue cut small hole somewhere unobtrusive. Spray in . Smooth to edges

I tried this out years ago on a V8 when i was replacing the exhaust, i fired it up and looked underneath and there was actually a pulsating 2 foot flame coming out ;)

The later 4.2 came with a 6 speed ZF gearbox. The earlier ones came with a 5 speed Mercedes box. Some say the later 4.2 engine and box is more reliable. Maybe. Forget about nikasil. That was 20 years ago. But do look out for leaks!

I think the Jag's key was a Ford one because I had that type of key for my Scorpio 4 x 4 back in the early 90's and so did my mate for his Sierra. Ford did own Jag at the time I think.
it`s a Chubb key , Ford dont make keys and locks, so it`s the same as a Ford key, not actually a Ford key

The jaguar keys of this era were microchipped so it depends how your key was programed, typically Green was programed for Valet and Black was for Car Owner. So, the green key is the Valet Key it will not open the trunk or glove box. You need the regular key (black key to do all those items). 8:10

3:10 the green colored key fob is the valet key. The key fob that came standard with the car was black.

I bought a 1998 XJ8 with the 4.0l engine with 43k miles on it. It's an absolutely lovely car. I cannot imagine straight-piping it, but then again I am very old.

The key is matched to your car in your case. Mine is just all black with gold accents despite the fact that my jag is turquise

The green key is the “Valet” key. It’s green to differentiate it from the 2 maybe 3 Black owner keys. Valet key won’t lock or unlock the glovebox!
How long before you get pulled over with that sound coming from the car? Is it legal with the straight pipes?
Go on, get the roof lid out, and re-glue the liner... bet it sounds 100% easier than it is to do! :D
They don’t come out in one piece without window removal.
