Absolutely LOVE these truly stunning cars! The car lot over the road from my flat had one of these, the same colour and look (but a diesel version) for sale earlier in the year and the looks it received from passers by clearly showed that its not just me that loves its looks. Young and old, male and female ALL loved this beautiful Jag! If i had the money to safely run one then i most certainly would.
It was the Super V8 review entitled “Cool Britannia” that first brought me to your channel several years ago, James. Absolutely fantastic car. If I were you I would buy this example and do the engine mods the Cool Britannia car had. Then you would have something REALLY special!
As a Jaaaaaag fan who has had 7 XJ's, over the years, watching this has made my day. I've enjoyed all the models I have had and this great, honest vid has spurned me on to, helplessly, get another one. Cheers JayEmm
Jay, you should put a link in the description to an auto trader search of the car you’re reviewing. Because that’s where we all go after watching these 😊
I have a x356 (the model between the x350 and x358) best car I have ever owned and although it’s not a SC v8 it’s still got plenty of go and is as smooth as fresh butter
Keyser Söze was a passenger in a Jaguar XJ6, enoguh said really. Whenever I hit redline of 6000rpm on my XKR the engine feels like it can easily keep going, I think Jaguar where pretty conservative with the redline.
Always been tempted by this model year of XJ, even a diesel one. Always thought of them as an old man car but I’ve just turned 30 So I’m basically a pensioner so it might be time 😎
I'm not a big Jag fan but I have to say the Super 8 is very nice. I think the longer wheelbase just proportions the car in more appealing to eye kind of way.
This really is one of the last real Jaguars. I remember sitting in one at an indoor car show, on the Jaguar stand in 08. First had a seat in an XF, which was a luxurious car. After, I sat in this last facelift of the classic XJ shape, so much more than a car, really had a sense of occasion. Shame Jaguar doesn't produce any cool car anymore that an enthusiast would buy.
I think the reason why we didn't get that model is more to do with why certain markets didn't get the Daimler model. The portfolio looks to all intense and purposes like a rebadged Daimler which if you've ever owned one you will know is a Jag but with more leather, wood and toys? Because of Daimler Chrysler issues I believe JLR were unable to use the Daimler name in some markets. Previously back in the XJ Series 2 & 3 days in those markets the Daimler double six was marketed as a Vanden Plas so I believe. That portfolio model looks every bit as special as an X350 Daimler, at least it does on my 3.5 inch phone screen. 😁
A friend of mine worked on the development of these when he was at Jag and bought one of the development cars when his family visited mine. Wow! What a car! It was like sitting in a very fast armchair! Unfamiliar with the roads in my area, he was about to go straight over a crossroads that we were meant to Give Way at, I shouted "stop" or "give way" or similar and he stamped on the brake pedal and it was almost instantly at a stop. It went like stink and stopped just as quickly too. Brilliant car
I have driven the similarly specced Daimler Super Eight from 2006 and I remember how pleasantly surprised I was by its driving dynamics! It also featured some, rather special 20 inch alloys but instead of the forged items of the Super V8, the Daimler had some gorgeous lightweight BBS Split-rims with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. It is one of the best disguised sports saloons of its era.
Most likely the reason why this wasn't offered in UK is because here we got Daimler Super V8 which was the top of like luxury oriented model for Europe
I think the Super V8 Portfolio makes more sense in the international trim linup than the UK lineup. My family is on our third X350 and we've always had what was called the XJ Vanden Plas - an XJ8 L which is tarted up with extra wood trim on the inside and extra chrome, like those mirror covers, on the outside. So to us the Super V8 was just the B7/S55/S8 competitor, being that it was never going to go up against a 760/S600/W12. I think the Daimler badged versions of the X350 probably served a similar purpose in your domestic market, if i had to venture a guess.
Lovin it! I am on my fourth jag XJ , had my current XJ v8 for the last four relatively care free years. The next one is definitely a XJ R, or maybe a XK R when my daughter has left home!
I owned a ‘regular’ Super V8 and it might be the best car I ever owned. Just spectacular. 90MPH cruise at 27 MPG and just loved a long, windy road. The only fault is the air suspension which dried out in the Western US every few years. Like others here, selling it is a regret that I think now and then. Great Car!!
Having owned one of these, a Quattroporte, an S500, and an A8 W12, all from around the 2005 era, I actually owned the Mercedes the longest. The Maserati was wonderful, but drank like a fish, and was once in the workshop so long, the MOT on the courtesy car ran out. The Audi was very similar to the Merc, but very slightly worse in every way. The Jag though had something about it. The engine was a gem, the handling was excellent, and the chunky steering wheel had nice sportine to it. I still look at them today. And yet.. every morning I'd pick the S class 😂
I don't love the lowered look. Think the dimensions of the car works way better when at original height. ..but other than that: I absolutely adore this look for a XJ. A fantastic looking car, and new enough to be actually useful. Such a cool, elegant and muscular design, and with a great balance of handling, sound and luxury. Such a shame they're turning Jaguar into a maker of appliances now.
The lowered look ? What don’t you like about it. It’s low and sleek for aerodynamics at speeds of over 100 mph. It’s designed to cruise at speed though.
Jay you are reviewing some seriously cool cars. The S Class Merc AMG, The Alfa, and now this Jag....wow...you're the man. Great effort. Awesome content . Well done Sir ..and ...I am now looking into this Jag ...
I still own one of the 145 cars made for the US market. Mine is "Cherry Black". It has only 60 700 km. I just don't have the courage to part with such an elegant beauty...
I've been completely intoxicated by the newer x351 version lately, I'm still not sure wether to go XJR or XJL 5.0 ultimate, not that I'll ever sit in the back but they're just so lovely
I went through the same intoxication a few years back, and ended up going for the 5.0 Supersport. Monumental engine plus all the toys. Fabulous fabulous car and the best year of motoring I've ever had. If you can afford to do it, I'd say go for it. The only thing you'll regret is when you decide you ought to be more sensible and sell it on.
@@davidhills3100 I've still not owned a V8 yet, so when I do I want the car to be equally ludicrous, most likely the Jag or a CLS shooting brake 5.5 I'm hoping to enjoy it as much as my wallet doesn't
@@ReeceT20 Got to spend time with a V8 before they're all gone, and the more ludicrous the better, I agree. I've not tried the CLS, but I did have an Audi S8 for a while. The Jag is the one I'd have again in a heartbeat.
Second the British Motor Museum, both my kids loved it almost as much as me and my daughter isn't car mad but they had some fun movie and TV vehicles which added to the experience. The volume of cool Jags they've got is simply staggering.
I think this was Jaguar in its prime. I really like the new Ian Callum XJ which came 2009, it's very nice car. But it's a bit like Porsche transformed to water cooled... sure the new ones are faster and better on paper but they are not the original Porsche 911 anymore. You know what I mean? The "spirit" was lost. 1972-1997 was pretty much the same car up until the 996. This is the last true Jaguar sedan in my eyes. The spirit still comes from 1968 series I. Sure XK and F-Type are nice too but they're different kind of cars. I doubt 4-door sedans even become super collectible but at least these can have SOME collectible value in the future. Especially the XJR's and the supercharged models. Beautiful car.
I had a 2006 X350 sovereign with the diesel engine. It was an amazing car. Have spotted a couple of options that car doesn’t have. Heated steering wheel and cooled seats.
The side vents are uniquely made from aluminum on the portfolio models not plastic like other models. There is a UK version XJR portfolio swb limited to 100 examples.
And those vents are very, very dear. £1500 each, if you can even find them. Probably even more these days. Have to wait until someone writes off their portfolio if you want to mod your XJ with them.
Thanks for that review and the wonderful job on your channel. I’ve tried both the SWB and LWB x350 super v8 … and ended up buying an x308 XJR as I much prefer its proportions and the charm of its imperfections. X350 felt too much like an attempt at “Germanizing” the feline which is I think why they sold so little… F type was a much better attempt at modernizing the brand
I'm only 5 mins into this video and i have to say this is the most informative and interesting video i have seen in a long time. I'm going through a British car phase. I have an old series 2 xj6 and I'm hoping to buy something like this someday.
The reason I love this car so much is just because it looks like a classic Jaag, but under the skin quite modern. Loved the one before this also and must go back to the square headlight one to find one I really don't like that much. The newest and the square headlight firmly in my opinion the worst looking XJ's. I remember to this day the awe of the polished one in the Top Gear studio 20 years ago. This looks like a Jag should, only thing I want is that 5 litre v8 out of the XKR 550hp lump. Light tan leather with true walnut trim is my dream car... edit: Forgot the; God bless and lots of love from Norway..
19:12 the last time I looked into it the XJ seemed to be in-between the 5 and 7 series. BMW actually made a 5-series L model for China though not elsewhere, so perhaps this car is comperable. Biggest example would be trunk size. I don't know the Maser, as I had an E39 M5 and a Supra, then R35, then F430, and still love the E39. And no-one with those pairs of cars would ever need the Quattroporte.
Just bought myself a 2005 jaguar XJ superV8 and im already in love with it. @@johnwillis9534 hi John , in the UK the Super V8 was actually available before they started even building any x350 LWB cars. My car details , 2004 Super V8, built on 05/02/2004. The last of the classic design XJRs were when Ford owned Jag, this is truly the sexiest Jag of them all, a true touring sedan. The 2007-2009.5 models Nothing Tata makes today can touch it...
I have wanted to replace my 2004 XJ8 Vanden Plas with this car for years. There was a time you could get it here in the USA for around $15,000 but now a good example is more like $25,000 and up. That back seat option was a 1-year only.
Nice review, they are great cars, well I would say that seen as I own one (a Super V8, but not a Portfolio). Need to get rid of that barnacle that is the radar detector on the dashboard though, oh and get a @jagdroid upgrade of course!
Personally I love this car since in my opinion the very last true Jaguar/Daimler sedan. Sure, the last gen XJ had a lot going for it, but to me it lost a lot of the pizazz and comfort that this gen had in exchange for better performance, something that seems rather odd given that it was a long saloon rather than a regular car like the XF or the XE.
I only drive Lincolns and Cadillacs (Yes, laugh, but I'm an ignorant American, so I only drive American Luxury Brands), but back when I was getting ready to get my third Cadillac, I took a very long look at this model, along with the previous generation XJ. I've always loved the way they look. The newer Jags are dope too, but they remind me of an Aston Martin. The XJ was a distinctive and gorgeous automobile.
Lovely cars. Enjoy seeing them. Really good the 350 series. Limited slip differential I find, ironically, actually in tighter corners will make getting the back end sideways very easy. So yeah that's why we like them. They get you better traction when in a straight line for sure.,.non of that one rear wheel spinning nonsense 😊
Just drove my 05 superv8 from Nova Scotia to Arizona 3,400 miles in 5 days . 27.5 mpg @ 75 to 90 mph , 10 to 11 hours a day . Just a dream to drive . At the end of the day your not tired of driving at all. A superb Road Machine, power to spare, surrounded by luxurious leather, a true land yacht. 70,000 miles so far. I will never sell this Dream Machine. Wanted to open it up but didn’t want my wife to bale me out of jail. I did a couple of times between Abilene and El Paso. Hahahahaha
Nice video, thanks. I think it’s a first video in youtube with portfolio. I have also super v8 portfolio in Ukraine in perfect condition. I bought him from USA and made a full restoration.
Now I get it, a Daimler Super 8. What a lovely car! It should have a 6 speed box and with the small pulley it should kick out 430 horses near enough. Ford made Jags reliable and well built but messed up the retro look for many. It's big though, not for 1950s designed multi story car parks. Nice report, thanks.
I've had a succession of XJs over the years since my Series 3 about 25 years ago. The X350 is really well put together: significantly better as well as more hi-tech than the X300/X308 etc. I'm now on a 2004 XJR and it's absolutely the most "dignified way to be in a hurry" imaginable!
Very nice car, and very tempting. I'd want to tone down the amount of chrome a bit though, make more of it body coloured, then it would look a lot more Hannibal Lecter and a bit less Arthur Dailey.
I united States for these too, but not the facelifted model. They were available in 2006 I think, w video and 4 place seating. It's effectively a vdp w a blower.

Then you would have something REALLY special!
thats my car, had it 3 yrs added a DTE pedalbox and the respose is off the hook lol!
As a Jaaaaaag fan who has had 7 XJ's, over the years, watching this has made my day. I've enjoyed all the models I have had and this great, honest vid has spurned me on to, helplessly, get another one. Cheers JayEmm
Best cars on the road! Superb video as usual James
Today I picked up my new jaguar project - 1997 XJ Sovereign LWB 4.0
Jay, you should put a link in the description to an auto trader search of the car you’re reviewing. Because that’s where we all go after watching these 😊
I have a x356 (the model between the x350 and x358) best car I have ever owned and although it’s not a SC v8 it’s still got plenty of go and is as smooth as fresh butter
Keyser Söze was a passenger in a Jaguar XJ6, enoguh said really. Whenever I hit redline of 6000rpm on my XKR the engine feels like it can easily keep going, I think Jaguar where pretty conservative with the redline.
The whole car gives Keyser vibes
Always been tempted by this model year of XJ, even a diesel one. Always thought of them as an old man car but I’ve just turned 30 So I’m basically a pensioner so it might be time 😎
I had the 2.7 litre diesel in the X350 shape and also 3.0 litre diesel in the later X351 shape. Both smooth motors.
Very fast armchair - yep, describes my old XJR perfectly. Yet still fun to hussle around B-roads.
I got Daimler Super 8 and XJR, actually driving is better on XJR. Will have to change suspension on Daimler
Most likely the reason why this wasn't offered in UK is because here we got Daimler Super V8 which was the top of like luxury oriented model for Europe
Good shout
@@Thanos.m In the UK we got thr XJR portfolio. Only 100 ever made
I think the Super V8 Portfolio makes more sense in the international trim linup than the UK lineup.
I have the 3.5V8 version. It looks better than most other cars on the road today, it's just so elegant. Great video.
He's a respectful guy, with good reviews.
The greatest modern Jaaaaaaaaaag... wanted one for years. Love the channel, man!
Great Car!!
This is my favorite version of Jag. The Super V8 was so classic
Check on Daimler Super 8;)
The US also received an X358 XJ Portfolio for 2009. Both the 2009 and 2006 Portfolios are wonderful cars. Great video!
the x358 one is madness - deep blue interior, ivory piping, omfg 😘💕
Yes. But with diesel engine 2.7 for the 40th anniversary
@@Volodymyr_Oleshchuk 2.7D was available for the whole run, had nothing to do with anniversary
@@jaromor8808i said fir the portfolio version
@@haypayne8937 The explanation as to why I'm not in love with it being lowered, is given in the first two sentences of my comment.
@@davidhills3100 I've still not owned a V8 yet, so when I do I want the car to be equally ludicrous, most likely the Jag or a CLS shooting brake 5.5
I'm hoping to enjoy it as much as my wallet doesn't
That leather so fresh / soft. That’s a looooooovely trimmed interior, hmnmmmmmm. Niiiiiiice indeed. Oh my. With that Supercharger whine. Oh my.
Beautiful Italian leather, gorgeous veneered components from the Jaguar wood shop.
I had a 2006 X350 sovereign with the diesel engine. It was an amazing car. Have spotted a couple of options that car doesn’t have. Heated steering wheel and cooled seats.
I have a x356 3lt petrol, just turned 200k, fantastic car and the lwb portfolio v8 charged is sublime
That car has been my dream car for a long time. I think the Winter Gold would be my choice.
What does this car have the others you mentioned don’t? Class!
What a stunning car! Proper Jag
Great car, amazing value too. I did 150k miles in my XJR. Didn't want to sell it. Best business car ever.
This very gen (and the x358) is constantly fighting with the BMW E38 in my list of the most gorgeous sedans ever
Best jaguar imo. I’ve had the 04 vanden plas for over 12 years and it never gets old.👍
Thanks for that review and the wonderful job on your channel. I’ve tried both the SWB and LWB x350 super v8 … and ended up buying an x308 XJR as I much prefer its proportions and the charm of its imperfections. X350 felt too much like an attempt at “Germanizing” the feline which is I think why they sold so little… F type was a much better attempt at modernizing the brand
depuis les années 1970 les BMW ont pris le marchais des caisses sportives , j ai toujours adorait cette ligne de caisses mais manque un v12
I Desperately love these. It's such a Wonderful thing. I'd want it in black or a deep/dark grey - Sinister but refined.
Being 18 going to 19 years old i had bought a 1995 camaro z28 but sadly had to get rid of it but when i got the jaguar supercharged V8 it definitely is an upgrade from the camaro. Later in the future im going to still get another camaro but this time im going to try to get a 1998 camaro ss so i can have that LS1 motor.
Great video I have a 2004 SWB Super V8, absolutely an amazing car and even though i have other cars I really cannot bare to part with it, mine is in Radiance Red on Sepangs and always gets admired, that supercharger whine is addictive haha
❤in America 🇺🇸 I think lwb super v8 was the only option?
I think you have a V8 super not a super V8. All super V8's were long wheel base.
@@johnwillis9534 incorrect, they were in fact only available in SWB in the first year of release
@@johnwillis9534 hi John , in the UK the Super V8 was actually available before they started even building any x350 LWB cars.
My car details , 2004 Super V8, built on 05/02/2004. One of 2,028’s, of which only 47 were Radiance.
Of the 47, 25 were SWB, and of those, only 8 were U.K. cars.
To narrow it down further, of the 8 cars, 4 had Ivory/Sand Piped interiors like mine
It is one of 2,028 SV8's built, 400 of which remained in the U.K. according to the current data.
Of the 400 RHD UK cars;
* 190 were SWB
As much as they do survive, the SV8 isnt a high numbers cars, and with only 26 max which are roaming the U.K., will be a while before you see another.
I was hoping you would do a long video of this car. Thank you! I agree. The Q-ship as only true rival to this particular XJ.👍
The last of the classic design XJRs were when Ford owned Jag, this is truly the sexiest Jag of them all, a true touring sedan.
The 2007-2009.5 models
Nothing Tata makes today can touch it...
Beautiful car😍 must be my age, I really do see the attraction in such a fine machine
It looks amazing, love the conker.
Got to love the big Jag, shame they no longer make the big jag and dropped the XJ 😢
It’s such an enjoyable video but also makes me sad that there are no longer any big Jag Saloons. Car buyers are fickle it seems 😢
Hahahahaha
Timeless beauty
I want to hire one of these as a wedding car what a gem
Very nice car, and very tempting. I'd want to tone down the amount of chrome a bit though, make more of it body coloured, then it would look a lot more Hannibal Lecter and a bit less Arthur Dailey.
If i ever need a luxurious saloon with some gentle touch of spice to it, this just might be it :)
Currently enjoying a Daimler Super 8. Don't let on or everyone will want one and the price will go up. Jaguar style Ford build quality
I own the other one he mentions. Stunning car. A keeper this one...
I united States for these too, but not the facelifted model. They were available in 2006 I think, w video and 4 place seating. It's effectively a vdp w a blower.
Will always love a big luxury jag
Great video 👍
Great video as always and awesome car but can someone tell me what is that godawful noise from 0:07-0:15?
HI JayEmm i just want to say i really enjoy your videos i recently got a jaguar xkr x100 4.0 S/C after watching your video and im currently looking at getting a ford mondeo st220 also becuase of your video .If you ever find yourself in south africa let me know . Got a view interesting cars around .
One of the current directors of JW Lees drives one of these to work everyday, if it’s good enough for someone who is that wealthy then it must be a good car
I just love my LWB 2007 XJ8L. Just fantastic.
I like that it has the classic looks but with the aluminium chassis and what not underneath. Looks fantastic imo
You've found a Jag that I really like. Very nice indeed
hi jay i remember seeing Daimler super v8 never realised we did forget jaguar v8
It's so good looking. A real head-turner
The last honestly good-looking Jag...
to be honest the x351 is a good looking car too, but these were on a whole another level
Darn it Jay, I’ve been looking at these and was hoping they’d go unnoticed and remain cheap! Now that’s not going to happen! 😅
When that was launched I was Sales Manager for the Jaguar dealer in Qatar the middle east state,we had 5 of them sold all to same customer a member of Qatars royal family, who used them once for guests at his daughters wedding, the parked them up,never used since as far as I am aware.
The difference between this Super V8 and a similar aged XJR is the previous ownership....The Super V8 was treated like a limo, while the XJR was treated like a sports car. This is a perfect example of a Super 8, nice one Jay, buy it if you can.
I have a jaguar XJR and I must agree it feels like a lotus rather than a large luxury saloon
Agreed great car.I once had 4.2 series 2 and then V12 Jag Sovereign for twenty yrs I now have 2003 Jaguar XJ8 in concours with Bentleyeske type grill.Normal wheel base which in Uk is quite long enough.Superb car..finished with all thexwood like mini Bentley.Quite a rare car on the road theae days!
Dr Rob Shepherd (Worcs)
Not a big fan of the X350 but this one looks great. Proportions are right
I own an X350 and I love it! Even with the 3.0 petrol engine! And because it's so nice I'm looking for another one! 🤦🤷😆
Same with the Mazda MX-5: I bought my first in December 2019 (which was my last Corona-FREE car) so I bought another MX-5 and I still own both!
Lovely cars!!! (XJ and MX-5)
I saw the Jaguar at Gaydon.....ooh what a beauty❤️.
Classy and sporty looking all in one.
My mate has one of those, its so damn good. Very rare in our country, I'd snap one up in a heartbeat if it came up for sale.
