Those tunas are one of the few animals orcas can't catch, or at least, not easily because they're actually even faster swimmers. So, this is a rare opportunity and they know it.
Actually orcas can catch tunas (yes, not easily like you said, but they can). There’s a famous scientific article on how they do it. Google: ‘Killer whale predation on bluefin tuna: exploring the hypothesis of the endurance-exhaustion technique’. Orcas have greater endurance than tunas. They will keep swimming behind and catch up once tuna exhausts itself. Then they will corral the tuna in groups, that’s how orca pods operate. Remember, orcas are extremely intelligent. It’s like cape hunting dogs going after much faster animals like impalas and Thompson gazelles. The dogs can run for mile and miles and miles…eventually catching up to the tired prey. So yes, orcas do hunt and eat tuna without human interference.

If the Orca are responding to a particular sound, the fishermen should play a recording of that sound continually so the whales no longer have any early warning system. you're welcome fishermen ;)
Adrien The Orca are chasing a boat when they hear the noise of the spinner line whizzing round and round which usually means a tuna has been caught and it’s running in panic. Therefore having a sound recording of the spinner line whizzing running continuously might confuse the Orca - and when they repeatedly find no fish on the line they may get fed up and leave.

and that has to do with them not attacking us? ... i just read that they don't attack Humans because they only eat what they've sampled before...and they never sampled Humans cause they already know what to eat
@@donnaadom8483 Still, one doesn't want an accidental bite or even tail-smack when all the blood and entrails are floating around.
Yeah..cages would probably make it easier for orca s to eat, without us pesky voyeurs getting in the way.
Don't even have to do that. Just add a couple underwater cameras and upload it to TH-cam. Or even a whalewatching boat.
I was on a submarine, the USS Billfish in the Mediterranean in 1979. We surfaced and I went forward and found a large fish hook stuck in the front end of our safety track. The 30ft of monofilament line looked like the lines these fisherman were using.
I always wonder what they thought they hooked that dragged their boat until they cut the line.
jbknight311 probably a whale
Some fisherman is probably still telling the story of the big one that got away in 1979
@@tylerdurden3722 hahahaha with one eye closed “she was a mighty beast”
Awwwww that orca is so sweet it helps the fisherman get the fish 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
i love orcas
Fishermen: *start hunting orcas.*
Orcas: *suprised pikachu.*
Noooo, leave the orca. I love them. They are exquisite.
@@renayesimmons4070 so the tuna isnt exquisite?
Yeah they are, but like orcas i love eating exquisite tuna hahaha.
@@renayesimmons4070 nooo dont get poached cause you a problematic species, you're so sexy! ha ha
Then they might start eating us and tbh I don't really understand why they don't
Orcas:
"Hey Everybody Over Here..."
"Free Sea Food"
If the Orca are responding to a particular sound, the fishermen should play a recording of that sound continually so the whales no longer have any early warning system. you're welcome fishermen ;)
Orcas are said to be nearly silent when they hunt, so I doubt it would work
Adrien The Orca are chasing a boat when they hear the noise of the spinner line whizzing round and round which usually means a tuna has been caught and it’s running in panic. Therefore having a sound recording of the spinner line whizzing running continuously might confuse the Orca - and when they repeatedly find no fish on the line they may get fed up and leave.
orcas : "thats what you get for stealing my food"
Time for a new strategy. The whales aren't going to stop and you're obviously not going to get the fish. Love David's work
You know how those fishermans can make EXTRA cash... TOURIST....
Whale watching AND you see Blue Fin Tuna getting caught???? Thats sounds like $200 PER person to me....
Where I live you can go out on a catch and release tuna trip.People from all over the world pay big money to try and catch these 700-800 pound or more monsters and will fight you every step of the way. This is up in atlantic Canada in the gulf of St. Lawrence . If you have a license to catch bluefins here the fishermen are only allowed to take one tuna per license per season. That's a good conservation way of regulating an endangered species. On fisherman up here caught a 1400 pounder back in the 70s. I think it's still the world record .We have to be careful with tuna or they will be fished into extinction.
@@peteandrepete528 Damn, their mouth must hurt after being caught and released a 100 times
they are not whales
@@mp292 I don't know how many times theyd fall for it but then again they probably snap & bite so fast, no time to discern repeat offender bait... lol
Yes, I think we saw all of the 30 exact same comments that came before yours!!!
POOR TUNA,,, THE PAIN HE WENT THROUGH...
Fisherman: "Orca oh no."
Orca: "Fisherman we eating good tonight."
Me: "Got em"
Fisherman: "Did you see an Orca"
Orca: "Yo mister Fisherman got any salt for me tuna cos me eating good tonight man"
killer whale: "Thank you!"
"Burrrrrp!"
Orcas are the genius of the animal kingdom, behind us.
I knew the moment I heard David Attenborough's voice that I'd find this interesting. After watching the video I can say I would have found it interesting regardless - I'm just sayin.. He has the voice of nature, fascination and life.
3:10 'Thx, byeeeee!'
Fisherman: today we will hunt bluefin tuna!
Orca : my time has come 🐳
I’m still buying grocery store sushi even if orca nibbled on it
LOLLLL in all the comments I don’t believe I read one from a fisherman
😂😂😂
😂😂
Being a PISCES is about as close to being a fish as I can get. Eating them just feels so ..so canabalistic

Flipper “thanks buddy for the snack. Looking forward to see you again”
Who DOESN’T like sushi? Obviously the whales do too! 🍣
What incredible intelligence. Wow.
You have no idea how intelligent these whales are.
Yes, but not in the boats :)
Well birds will do the same if you start feeding them

Cunning Cheating Whales... catch your own meals...
And I better hear no complaints...
This is their territory, not ours...
I'm pretty sure when there aren't documentary cameras filming them, they use the harpoons meant for the tuna to let them know they aren't welcome.
In the Mediterranean highly unlikely.
T Breezy Sounds more like US type of behavior...
T Breezy maybe if your livelihood depended on the tuna, you might not be so self righteous
Thunderous bs. You just made that up 🤪🤣🤣🤣
I doubt they are killing whales. Whales are smart and care a lot about their families. If they killed a few, the whales would probably weigh the risk and go elsewhere. They captured a couple and killed one in the NW US many years ago and the whales still stay away from that spot.
Orcas be like "So long and thanks for all the fish!"
Orca are beautiful and brilliant ❤️❤️❤️
Really suprised that the fishermen dont just shoot the competition. Maybe when cameras are not on, they do.
they should shoot them with bullets made of salt
No, if they started to fuck with the orcas, the orcas would start fucking with them back
to think if we started shooting orcas they would probably attack us back and orcas are smart and strong creatures
Orcas are nothing if we harpoon them and pollute their oceans.
Yeah, shoot these damn bastards.
Score for the Orcas!!👍
This Dude is the Best. Great Voice.
They should make a deal, fishermens have to say don't touch our fish and we will give you all what fish has inside body and that be win win solution for both sides 🤷♂️
Always the same with BBC Earth: right at the moment the action starts, the camera cuts away or everything gets blurry and frantic. Give me good amateur footage.
@The fastest milkman in the West The BBC cut footage in a fancy way, I find this way of editing wildlife a pretty tired concept these days. Raw footage, without jump all the cuts or an overly indulgent narrative, creates a more representative depiction of wildlife, in my opinion. Thoughts? (I'm not trying to undermine the skill and investment involved in obtaining the raw footage, obviously).
@@erinquinn215 Give us an example of something more modern that's better then.
I personally can't even think of anything that even comes close to the BBC's work. And I hate the BBC.
Greats and good job Orcas.... Human at home!!!! 😁😁😁👍
Poor Giant Blue-Finned Tunas.
Yeah... that's what I say every time I make tuna salad. LOL 😂
Randy Waller Canned tuna is actually albacore because the meat is white but whatever
While hoisting.the fish, you slide an aluminum shell down the line, open toward the fish on one end and having a crossmember guide on the end toward the boat. It meets the fish on the way up and protects it from whale bites.
The orcas are beautiful and amazing Whales.
Those goddamn sea-pandas!!
Nerdy Tyrd hahahahahaha
Having a squad of boats for deep sea fishing would be make the experience a lot more friendly 😂
so smart... jack move
I wish I could be there to watch the Orcas
Might as well leave the tuna alone.
Fisherman: Hold my beer we got a giant blue fin tuna!
Orca: 🤫 Yes. Yes we do.
Tuna = chicken of the sea
Killer whale = thug of the sea
...TO THIS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whales are gangsta until the japanese boats show up
I like my tuna seasoned with whale spit!
These whales probably came from Japan escaping the country
Humans we are pirates..Killer whales hold my Ocean..😂😂😂
The orca be like: *prenk*
Easily fixed with a cone on the line to "Shroud" the catch.
A bluefin can be 3 meter long...
The depth of the ocean is terrifying, watching that concrete sink gave me butterflies.
The fisherman: damn whale
What u dont see on screen, fisherman: Get the harpoon
Killer whale: "THAT'S MY FISH PUNK!"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Is this where Sirena tuna comes from? If so I am honoured to be eating the same food as these great mammals. They really combine their mass and strength to take down all sorts of different prey. And they are cheeky and thieving when they can be, like humans.
Why doesn't someone make a device they can throw in the water to simulate the sound of the winch at incremental distances away from the actual catch to draw them away and distract them?
Cause the whales eat the tuna not the winch
I like that idea...it would have to be more than just sound though....smell and non sound vibration also attracts the Orcas...
