    Just moved into our new place and I noticed a leak and had to stop the dishwasher before going to bed. I’ve been so stressed about it and other things related to the move, so I barely slept all night. In fact, I watched this video at 4:30 am! After watching the video, I opened the dishwasher to look at the gasket, and found a bottom screw sticking out right where the leak was. I screwed it back in and ran it. No more leaks! This literally took five seconds and saved me a few days/weeks worth of headaches waiting for someone else to fix the dishwasher. Thank you thank you thank you! I’m gonna go back to sleep now! Haha

    My whirlpool gold series 2013 dishwasher was leaking bottom of door. Leak used to start about 5 to 10 minutes after the cycle used to start. Source of leak turned out to be rubber gasket of heat vent that is on top left corner. It was accessible after removing door cover and opening the vent. Had hard water deposited on gasket. Cleaning with vinegar and giving a nice coat of vaseline before putting all together back resolved the issue.

    Hey GREAT video!!!! Our dishwasher was leaking this morning; I suspected that it was the gasket however it still looked in good shape. After cleaning the debris and scum off the rubber, it was still leaking. My wife was looking at new dishwashing machines online. ANYWAY, I watched your video and saw that you recommended inspecting the SCREWS on the sides of the door. The lower screws were loose and sticking out. I used my screwdriver with the appropriate star bit and screwed them down again. NO LEAKING! THANKS! I guess after being used everyday for the past several years the screws got loose. If you think about it thats a pretty sturdy machine since its being used almost every single day.

    So my problem was not the gasket. My dishwasher was leaking from the bottom of the door around the middle. I checked the gasket, arm movement, float switch, water level and screw tightness on the doors but nothing seemed out of order. I removed the lower arm assembly and exposed the mounting plate (6-8 screws in a circle under the arm assembly) and discovered that the screws facing the door were loose. This was allowing water to bypass the lower wash arms and push the water over the lower housing of the door. Pretty simple fix, but just a bear to find.

      I've changed the gasket, no success, and the seal at the bottom which was a lot of work... No success. Do you have a vid on your method? Or photo to show the area to check?

    • @insquirrel
      @insquirrel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you've changed the door gasket, and ruled out everything else, remove the inner door panel and find the ventilation strip! There is a foam gasket that was the culprit for me. I'm shocked at how few people mention this in their posts. Peel off the gasket and reglue it with B7000 or something similar. My Maytag wad dripping water every cycle - sometimes only a few drips, but sometimes as much as a liter, which was getting worse over time. As soon as I reglued the foam seal on the black vent piece, my dishwasher completely stopped dripping and is BONE DRY. You are welcome!

      Mine has a similar leak. I’ll look for any loose screws. When I feel under the door, the insulation behind the outer skin is wet and dripping.

    • @insquirrel
      @insquirrel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@b16crxtcheck the ventilation opening. Peel away the foam gasket and reseal it with flexible waterproof glue, like B7000.

    Unusual Cause of Door leak! I chased this door leak problem for a long time.
    At the end of the cycle, the DW was fully drained but would slowly drip during wash cycle. I inspected for all the usual listed problems. Checked sprayer arms for possible cracks, checked fill valve, replaced main door gasket, bottom door gasket and float; didn't cure the problem. As a last resort, I went under house and found a a drooping ABS plastic drain pipe. The pipe is 2" dia. and had a 2" droop that meant the line would still drain but slowly, thus backing up slightly on the fill and drain cycles. I reset the slope on the ABS drain pipe and for 9 months, no more dripping on floor. I do keep a "Leak Squeek" (from Amazon; no batteries and low profile) alarm on the floor just in case.

    I had same issues, same Parts shotgun, Ended up finding the lower sprayer bar had split along the sonic weld and was sending water sideways at such pressure to overcome the door gasket/pan lip.

  • @John-yu5je
    @John-yu5je 9 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    When replacing the door gasket, it is always good to replace the lower door gasket as well. In fact, if there is a corner leak, with all due respect to your video, the lower door gasket is most likely the cause before the door gasket. There are videos on this but basically open the door, remove the screws holding the front panel, close the door and remove the front panel. Open the door and remove the old gasket, note the groves so you will install the new one correctly, and go ahead and install it. Slide the front panel back in, open the door and put the 4 screws back in. Replacing both will insure a tight seal all around! That's all there is to it!

    Door screws tight. But noticed door gasket did not quite reach as far down as it could. As I was wiping it clean with a paper towel, it stretched downward on its own so I encouraged it to go to the very end.
    Am running another test. This time on the “pots and pans” cycle since that pushes more water into the dishwasher.🙏🏽
    Prayer answered with a “Yes”! 😃 Water now stays inside the dishwasher, even when full if the maximum amount of water (regulated as it should be).

    I bought and returned 2 door gaskets. The new ones are TOO STIFF and TOO FAT to fit in the groove. HERE IS HOW I FIXED THE SUMBITCH: The old gasket was fine except for the bottom 1-2 inches on both ends. They split and deformed to the point where they no longer sealed. I removed the whole seal, doubled it in half and cut it into TWO equal lengths. CUT OFF the 1-2 inches from the ends that are deformed. Reinstall the seals, but now leave a gap at the TOP where the latch is. Take the deformed pieces you cut off and place them in the groove at the TOP where the latch is. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

    • @user-fq7tv2lo6e
      @user-fq7tv2lo6e 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good thinking sir, just tried it so far so good (instead of cutting off both bottom 1-2 inches, cut seal in half and just flip seal around and let deformed pieces meet up in middle, leaves only one gap at top)

    • @BenPeckover
      @BenPeckover 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Why not cut it in half and put the cut end on the opposite sides so the deformed bits meet in the middle at the top where the latch is?

    Great video! I ran into an issue with the door not latching after installing the new gasket. Make sure you have the gasket pushed in all the way. I also had to ‘lean’ on the door a bit until it finally grabbed and latched closed. I’m guessing the new gasket needs to be worn in a tiny bit before fitting?

    The door gasket on my Kitchenaid dishwasher has what appear to be bespoke "shoes" on each end, where the bottom of the door at the hinge makes contact and seals. The "shoe" on the right side deteriorated, becoming hard and crumbly, and appears to have disintegrated: A large chunk evidently separated and ended life in the chopper. Does this generic, cut-it-with-a-pair-of-scissors gasket material really do the trick and provide a tight seal on each end? I am dubious.

    So on the new gasket it looks like you install it with the bell facing inwards?

    Very helpful, thank you! I will order a gasket and give it a try but my question is regarding the door screws. If I tighten them the leaking stops for a while but always comes back. Today I took the screws right out to have a look and they are just screwing into a hole in metal with no nut on the back so they just basically just spin and spin. Is there a way to secure them so they stay tight without a nut?

      Fill the hole with some silicone or epoxy, but make sure to give it time to set up, at least 24 hours, maybe 48. (Think "chemical weld". Ask at Auto Zone.) Squished it in the hole, screw the screws into it, let it set up about and hour, then snug the screws a bit, then let it set up for the rest of the time on the package directions.

    There are 2 gaskets to dishwashers.
    A foam around the door, and a plastic one on bottom of door.
    And the plastic one on bottom of door is the one that breaks most as the door closes chipping it and 99% why leaks at the door not the foam one shown in video.
    The bottom door plastic one you have to take the front door apart and pull it out front the bottom of the door then snap new one into specific groves. Videos don't show this gasket as is harder to do than just a foam in door gasket.

    Edit: I was totally putting it in wrong.
    I ordered a new gasket for my washing machine and an attempting to install it now. The gasket isn't sticking in place, no matter how hard I push it in or how many times I go over it. I am 99% sure this is the correct gasket for my machine. I used the whirlpool item number to order it off of amazon. Any thoughts?

    I fixed my leak by replacing the spray arm! Remove the spray arm. Use a garden hose to flow water into it and see if water sprays out the sides due to the seam failing. My spray arm went go bad after 8 years. Note: Do not purchase the lowest priced gasket. It was too stiff and the door would not stay shut. I had to clamp the door to keep it shut. It did not fix the leak. That is when I found the leaking spray arm.

    Is there a replacement gasket for a far more reasonable cost? the price of $35 to $58 is outrageous for this piece of rubber.

      It is so nice of you to let them know!!! Even after 4 years!!!
      Lol, I hope that person wasn't waiting by their computer and holding their breath!...
      I am picturing a 4 year old skeleton, in front of a dim screen... a mouse sitting high on its skull, lit up by the cold, bluish screen light, its own huge shadow, oppressive, behind it... on the desk, a cup of coffee frozen in time...

    what if there is no leak on the outside? I have this E1 error and my machine won't start. It happened again a few months ago, just once ..

    It’s easier if you use a debit or credit card to push it in.
