Well from their perspective, Kojima was always taking WAY too long to make games (especially on this one) and spent WAY too much money (especially on this one), so in the end they got fed up and did what they did. Then they saw "oh shit, this is making us a boat load of money but we have fucked our relationship with Kojima, how can we get more cash? SPIN OFF!"
I am going to play Konami’s take, what if you had a very talented game Director (Kojima) and you gave him a budget and a deadline to finish the game. And that Director after missing the deadline would come back to you and tell you it is now going to cost triple and I am going to take also triple the estimated deadline, you agree because the guy is a genius. Then the next deadline arrives and guess what the game isn’t ready and he is asking for more money and more time..And then you see that he barely works, he arrives late, leaves early. Would you still be happy? Well that is exactly what happened with the Phantom Pain it went way over its budget and way over its deadline (and still was unfinished). Hiring Kiefer Sutherland to voice act, a famous model to play the role of Quiet, purchasing all the music rights for all those cassette tapes with 80’s music, all those were unnecessary and expensive decisions Kojima took, making a massive 100 hour game was also his decision (most fans would have been ok with a 30-40 hour campaign).. Then you as a company realize that at the same time a division of your company is making mobile games that are infinitely more cheap, faster to develop and more profitable? What do you do? I respect Kojima and really like all the MGS games he developed, but somewhere along the lines he forgot the business side of video games. It looks like he is doing it again with Dead Stranding, I am sure he is way over budget and way delayed, yes that game is going to be a masterpiece, but I don’t know if it will make a profit for Sony after all, other than good PR in saying that Playstation has exclusive Kojima games..
Yeah, I agree with this. It definetly should have just been a standalone IP. They just needed to remove the annoying ass robot voices, actually add parries/dodges and whatever to the melee system (because FOX was designed for guns), make all the weapons actually viable, and reduce the grind and microtransactions. Really not that much.

Dominic Altamura I second this man's statement. MGS5 did not have the best story, but it was still nothing but fun. While the story was not MGS level, it was still somewhat acceptable, though some see it as mediocre, but that's all made up by how fun the gameplay actually was, and the freedom you're given with tackling objectives. Survive does not have that. If a game has a bad story, it still needs to be fun with it's gameplay. If it's gameplay is bad, it needs a good story. Survive has a mediocre story with mediocre gameplay, and to most people, that would mean it's mediocre.

fcfdroid I would normally not boycott buying a companies games but the fact that they really don't care for their greatest asset (kojima) and they throw a franchise into a very different genre is not how you keep your consumers. You can't just do something like this to get more players without losing your current playerbase. And at this point I fear that they lost more than they gained. And 10$ a save slot is nothing but a fucking insult. That's not ok. That's not fucking ok. There was a reason why hideo kojima was so important to this franchise. Companies just don't see their developers the same way anymore. It's just fucking sad now.

Except for additonal FOB bases in MGS:TPP but that didnt effect the game overall since additional FOB's only mattered in the late game if you were going to craft every single weapon/item available f.e. which buy that point you could buy the FOB Slots easily with ingame currency. So what exactly are you referring to?

Max Pain as good as Rising was I guess it was maybe abit rough and rushed in some places, but considering that that Platinum only had about a year to make the game, after Kojima reached out to them to resurrect it, I'd say it's pretty impressive. Also, just imagine what they could do with a proper development time. But ofcourse that's not going to happen and it's bullshit! I heard as well Survive's sales, on release, was 85% less than Rising figures so clearly Konami are idiots for not backing Platinum and going for this cheap knock off
Nailed it, As a MGS fan since I played MGS1 on demo disc from my game informer magazine (yes they used to package demo discs in gaming mags back in the day) I was hooked to it like white on rice. In fact, I still play MGS3 on my pspvita when I'm watching tv with the fam and not on the xbox. So it definitely pisses me off they used the success of MGS and shuffled out a shitty game with the title to make us fans think it's the next one coming out. Sad that they did this to one of the best gaming series in all of gaming history.

Because the game is horrible. There’s so many other games that do what Metal Gear Survive did, and they do it 20 times better. The point where it was really frustrating is when they marketed this game in the Metal Gear series, because this game should not have the name Metal Gear and it doesn’t deserve to have the name Metal Gear in the title. The gameplay is horrible, boring, unfun, and repetitive. Not to mention they’re selling you another save slot for $10, something that should come with the game free. I could go out, get Skyrim per-owned for the 360, and Fallout 3 pre-owned, amazing games, and still have at least $3 left.

When I play a very good game I'll maybe play it 2 or 3 times through. But metal Gear it differs, mgs (psx) I stopped counting around 30 times but I did play through way more times like 100 times. Last time was a few weeks ago. And the rest of the games at least 5 times each beside mgs 5. Even mgs rising was fun. But Konami ripped it out, and they don't even care. That's what's bothering me.

AC was a cool game. But wasn't Brotherhood like the second or third in that series? Kojima has being a gaming god since he was given the reigns to the FIRST Metal Gear back in 1987. 30 years ago.

It mixes a lot of elements from Darksiders, WoW, and Elder scrolls to name a few. Good story, beautiful scenery and a fantastic/engaging combat style. like this so they see it, please!!!

You don’t even get other saves in MGSV, i had to delete my save to restart in order to enjoy the content since post-game is a boring wasteland. Plus the seperate character slots pool your resouces; if you have 2 characters in Survive you can be earning twice the resources.

The sad part is that people still defend it. They excuse the microtransactions by saying they existed in MGSV as well. I mean how does that make it right? They are willing to put up with slow, clunky, generic, boring gameplay just because it says Metal Gear on it. They ignore the fact that they converted a stealth game into a survival action game without changing the mechanics almost at all. It's sad.

ok i have the game and did way more research into the game beyond what blind hating bias reviewers have to say, heres what the game gives you, your microtransactions are for those who are impatient, the game literally GIVES you the currency youre saying you have to buy with real money, its just a matter of saving the money up, (does this defend the price of the slots NO but your getting free game money from the GAME, 2nd the save slots as people keep talking about are NOT save slots theyre more like face file slots, every "save slot" as people like to call them share the same world and item system, all youre literally paying for is to change a face or the gender, but if you make a 2nd 3rd or 4th toon, then they get to use what 1 has! does THIS defend the price of the slots NO, could the slots be cheaper for what they actually give you yes, but alas they arent saves in the typical sense that anything 2 3 or 4 gets they only keep it, all toons share everything, how do i know this, i have and play the game and did A LOT of research
I think you summed it up just right. Nothing Konami has done is fair. It feels like we’re going through another 80’s style Atari gaming crash where devs are so eager to slap out any game to keep those microtransaction profits rolling in that they don’t stop and think about the long term effect this will have such as consumer trust of the dev company.
Maybe because it's online only, it has a $10 "DLC" for save files (of all things), it's yet ANOTHER zombie game, & it has not a damned thing to do with the Metal Gear series no matter what the title says. It's quite a lot to do with metal gear to be fair, all its assets are from metal gear. You can't get more metal gear than that. It's like a community mod for metal gear solid 5 lmao.
Maybe Metal Gear Survive is what MGSV was going to be, filled with microtransactions pouring out the seams and Kojima quit with Konami after not allowing the game to be made with Konamis vision of monetization, and as a result, MGSV titled The Phantom Pain symbolises his departure, he left the body of what was Metal Gear, but the soul, Kojima, is no longer around and that's why the game gets so much flak.
Chris Burns you do realize that phantom pain has worse micro transactions. TPP has micro transactions that made the multiplayer pay to win by buying more bases. Survive charges for a save slot yeah but you can get every skill tree and weapon on a single save. The rest are just boosters that barely affect the game or cosmetic items that are useless.
BIgfastcal That may be the case, but look at when those systems were implemented in MGSV, yes there were Motherbase Coins you could purchase day one I believe, but it wasn't even affecting gameplay the slightest. Survive takes the word microtransaction by the scruff of the neck at knife point and tries to get away with as much as possible. Survive is probably what Konami originally invisioned MGSV to be, and since Kojimas departure, they've monetized the game for speeding up development of in-game items with coins and have given the option of "insurance" for FOB's. Konami doesn't care.
Ive played the game 50+ hours and have never felt pressured in the slightest to buy any sort of micro transaction. They're totally optional and only help you progress slightly faster in an already stupid fast progression system.
It may sound strange but i play MGSurvive and i really enjoy it alot - taking what was really good from MGSV and putting it in survival genre plays great. Im having a blast with it, expecially in coop mission with my friends There is alot of solid new mechanic suited for survival game, with a great base from MGSV Im not gonna convience anyone to like or not like it - people are different and like different things, but Id say if you like survival games - MGSurvive is great title As for microtransactions - only thing you can buy is boosters - which is pretty common everywere around, so im quite suprised why people are suprised As for dreaded "paying for saves" - these are character slots - just to be exact, and dont follow certain headlines like bunch of sheeps - i agree its always a bad move, but i never felt nessecity to create another character since you can freely swap classes/gear on one you have. And - just to be fair - many other games have paid character slots
I've been a Metal Gear fan for years and loved MGS5. I was not looking forward to this game, the beta was confusing and I didn't like it. Then somebody told me about the single player campaign and that the game had a very addictive and rewarding loop. Decided to try it out and take it for what it is, and I haven't been this captivated by a game since Bloodborne probably. The game honestly deserves a chance. While the criticisms of it 'not being Metal Gear' and the microtransactions added by Pachinkonami are of course valid, I feel these reviewers just saw the possibility of TH-cam money rolling in by ripping this game a new one as soon as it came out. I didn't expect it to be good either but it's pretty obvious they didn't even give it a chance. The FOX engine and its performance are still marvelous, it just plays so well and the game really nails the survival part for me. It honestly deserves a chance, it's brilliant at what it is, and this is coming from someone who expected never to pick up the game.
The continued distancing and disrespecting of Kojima does not help that fact either. Konami's behavior means that whatever they release NEEDS to be stellar, and not something that's just phoning it in with crap design, reused assets, and awful microtransactions.
Hmmm.. as a lover of the series, I'd say it's because it is the same engine, same skin, and basically boils down to being a mod. Confusing asf in the Beta as well. I want to love it, but it's making that tough.
I like the game, just wish there's more content. Maybe bigger map and missions to clear all the fog or wanderer hordes (like days gone) in the world and have secret happy ending in the end. Or building a better base until it became sort of castle or mother base type.
I like how you said "MG:survive was born into a time where Konamis hate was at it's peak" because I can assure you with utmost certainty that this game would have been praised to heaven if they simply wrote "Hideo Kojima" on it. Well, the game would have been also much different if it was actually directed by Kojima so take it or leave it. as someone that actually played the game for more than 6 hours, something very VERY little people can say that think they can make a full review about this game, especially judging by the playtime on stream-reviews I honestly have to admit: I had a pretty good time, not a 10/10 time but certainly not a I want to hang myself time. First things first: I wish I could have played it without having to give konami any money, really, I'm all on board with burning those cunts down BUT as a fan of coop games or PvE type of farming games (Warframe, Path of Exile, Payday 2) I wanted to give it a shot ... and of course because I'm a dirty Metal gear fanboy. For everyone that says "zombies don't belong in the metal gear universe or a metal gear that isn't a stealth game shouldn't exist"; keep in mind that we also live in a timeline where METAL GEAR REVENGANCE and METAL GEAR ACID 1 and 2 exist. I swear to god if they would have released the fucking card game right now instead of survive, that would have been a fucking suicide. Well, turned out those games recieved pretty good feedback so why can't Survive do so too ? So yeah, I would like to drop a "proper review" but who tf would care about that on 1. a youtube comment and 2. on a video that is already sets the mood for anything regarding Survive. For a standalone game, all events outside game itself it is close to a 7/10. With a very rough introduction to the game that made 80 % of players hit the refund button faster than the triangle at the tourture scene in Peace walker the game later offers some interesting things to play around with. In mid to late game, you see no one playing this meele type of fence poking because, you figured, it's really fucking boring. So like any PvE coop game, the game later becomes all about tactical controlling the enemys with all the tools you have but ALSO like many PvE games, those things will sometimes end up in "this is the best and most effective strategy, everything else is gimmicky" but for everyone that plays PvE coop game, that shouldn't be something new. I can see that if you are a pure Story driven player, this sounds more than awful and I can completely feel you with that but also remember that not everyone was so receptive with Revengance suddenly being a Arcade action fighting game for the same reason and I feel that if kojima wouldn't have stepped in to help finish the game it might have ended just like Survive. Also the writing in survive is dead end horrible, even Matthew Mercers voice couldn't save those garbage dialoges that sound like a fanfiction for some generic ass anime. I feel like everything else I say from here on doesn't matter that much so yeah, my conclusion: Survives Timeline is very unfortunate because I could see that this game could have had a odd place in this universe but Konami just choked it before it even got to breath. I would welcome Metal gear spin-offs because the world past Metal gear solid 2 has some nasty good potential especially in story but with Survive, Konami showed us that this will never be the case. I will not bury the Metal gear series with Survive but salute it with the same tear that I shed for the Bosses undeserved death.

This is my honest opinion and I can agree the beta did give some really good hope for it. But really I just think people are mostly mad due to that it has nothing to do with the actual series of metal gear and it's being its own thing, I think its an interesting idea on the take of it it has some standard elements for survival and some different ones that most survival games might not have. Overall I think its a decent game but would be even better if it had no microtransactions.

Think of it this way: if it didn't have the Metal Gear name on it, they wouldn't cover it because it would just be a nameless, boring game. If it was either a great game or an awful game they'd cover it whether or not it was a Metal Gear game, but in its current state, it's neither. It's just a boring, painfully average zombie game that, if it had not had the name of Metal Gear tacked onto it, wouldn't have been interesting enough for them to make a video on because the video would likely be boring too (there would be almost nothing to talk about). At least that's my interpretation.

Seeing all this happen to a game series that honestly means so much to me is heart breaking. Well from their perspective, Kojima was always taking WAY too long to make games (especially on this one) and spent WAY too much money (especially on this one), so in the end they got fed up and did what they did.
Then they saw "oh shit, this is making us a boat load of money but we have fucked our relationship with Kojima, how can we get more cash? SPIN OFF!"
I am going to play Konami’s take, what if you had a very talented game Director (Kojima) and you gave him a budget and a deadline to finish the game. And that Director after missing the deadline would come back to you and tell you it is now going to cost triple and I am going to take also triple the estimated deadline, you agree because the guy is a genius. Then the next deadline arrives and guess what the game isn’t ready and he is asking for more money and more time..And then you see that he barely works, he arrives late, leaves early. Would you still be happy? Well that is exactly what happened with the Phantom Pain it went way over its budget and way over its deadline (and still was unfinished). Hiring Kiefer Sutherland to voice act, a famous model to play the role of Quiet, purchasing all the music rights for all those cassette tapes with 80’s music, all those were unnecessary and expensive decisions Kojima took, making a massive 100 hour game was also his decision (most fans would have been ok with a 30-40 hour campaign).. Then you as a company realize that at the same time a division of your company is making mobile games that are infinitely more cheap, faster to develop and more profitable? What do you do? I respect Kojima and really like all the MGS games he developed, but somewhere along the lines he forgot the business side of video games. It looks like he is doing it again with Dead Stranding, I am sure he is way over budget and way delayed, yes that game is going to be a masterpiece, but I don’t know if it will make a profit for Sony after all, other than good PR in saying that Playstation has exclusive Kojima games..

Survive does not have that. If a game has a bad story, it still needs to be fun with it's gameplay. If it's gameplay is bad, it needs a good story. Survive has a mediocre story with mediocre gameplay, and to most people, that would mean it's mediocre.

fcfdroid I would normally not boycott buying a companies games but the fact that they really don't care for their greatest asset (kojima) and they throw a franchise into a very different genre is not how you keep your consumers. Max Pain as good as Rising was I guess it was maybe abit rough and rushed in some places, but considering that that Platinum only had about a year to make the game, after Kojima reached out to them to resurrect it, I'd say it's pretty impressive. Also, just imagine what they could do with a proper development time. But ofcourse that's not going to happen and it's bullshit! I heard as well Survive's sales, on release, was 85% less than Rising figures so clearly Konami are idiots for not backing Platinum and going for this cheap knock off

Nailed it, As a MGS fan since I played MGS1 on demo disc from my game informer magazine (yes they used to package demo discs in gaming mags back in the day) I was hooked to it like white on rice. In fact, I still play MGS3 on my pspvita when I'm watching tv with the fam and not on the xbox. So it definitely pisses me off they used the success of MGS and shuffled out a shitty game with the title to make us fans think it's the next one coming out. Sad that they did this to one of the best gaming series in all of gaming history.

Because the game is horrible. There’s so many other games that do what Metal Gear Survive did, and they do it 20 times better. The point where it was really frustrating is when they marketed this game in the Metal Gear series, because this game should not have the name Metal Gear and it doesn’t deserve to have the name Metal Gear in the title. The gameplay is horrible, boring, unfun, and repetitive. Not to mention they’re selling you another save slot for $10, something that should come with the game free. I could go out, get Skyrim per-owned for the 360, and Fallout 3 pre-owned, amazing games, and still have at least $3 left.

Me and a friend of mine playED metal gear since 1998, that's 20 years today. This franchise is a peace of my heart and I played like 10 000 hours or so. When I play a very good game I'll maybe play it 2 or 3 times through. But metal Gear it differs, mgs (psx) I stopped counting around 30 times but I did play through way more times like 100 times. Last time was a few weeks ago. And the rest of the games at least 5 times each beside mgs 5. Even mgs rising was fun. But Konami ripped it out, and they don't even care. That's what's bothering me.

You don’t even get other saves in MGSV, i had to delete my save to restart in order to enjoy the content since post-game is a boring wasteland. Plus the seperate character slots pool your resouces; if you have 2 characters in Survive you can be earning twice the resources.

Because its a bad game, because they sell you 10 dollar save slots, Because its an extremely boring game, Because the story is so bad its funny, Because it was marketed almost like the game would be a fun multiplayer experience which it isn’t the beta was all the multiplayer, i could go on but I shouldn’t have to
The sad part is that people still defend it. They excuse the microtransactions by saying they existed in MGSV as well. I mean how does that make it right? They are willing to put up with slow, clunky, generic, boring gameplay just because it says Metal Gear on it. They ignore the fact that they converted a stealth game into a survival action game without changing the mechanics almost at all. It's sad.

ok i have the game and did way more research into the game beyond what blind hating bias reviewers have to say, heres what the game gives you, your microtransactions are for those who are impatient, the game literally GIVES you the currency youre saying you have to buy with real money, its just a matter of saving the money up, (does this defend the price of the slots NO but your getting free game money from the GAME, 2nd the save slots as people keep talking about are NOT save slots theyre more like face file slots, every "save slot" as people like to call them share the same world and item system, all youre literally paying for is to change a face or the gender, but if you make a 2nd 3rd or 4th toon, then they get to use what 1 has! does THIS defend the price of the slots NO, could the slots be cheaper for what they actually give you yes, but alas they arent saves in the typical sense that anything 2 3 or 4 gets they only keep it, all toons share everything, how do i know this, i have and play the game and did A LOT of research

It feels like we’re going through another 80’s style Atari gaming crash where devs are so eager to slap out any game to keep those microtransaction profits rolling in that they don’t stop and think about the long term effect this will have such as consumer trust of the dev company.
Maybe because it's online only, it has a $10 "DLC" for save files (of all things), it's yet ANOTHER zombie game, & it has not a damned thing to do with the Metal Gear series no matter what the title says. (And this is coming from someone who doesn't even play the Metal Gear games & yet I know that the latter is the main reason for the hate!). And now you will probably have that hashtag FOREVER!...

It's quite a lot to do with metal gear to be fair, all its assets are from metal gear. You can't get more metal gear than that. It's like a community mod for metal gear solid 5 lmao.
Maybe Metal Gear Survive is what MGSV was going to be, filled with microtransactions pouring out the seams and Kojima quit with Konami after not allowing the game to be made with Konamis vision of monetization, and as a result, MGSV titled The Phantom Pain symbolises his departure, he left the body of what was Metal Gear, but the soul, Kojima, is no longer around and that's why the game gets so much flak.
Chris Burns you do realize that phantom pain has worse micro transactions. TPP has micro transactions that made the multiplayer pay to win by buying more bases. Survive charges for a save slot yeah but you can get every skill tree and weapon on a single save. The rest are just boosters that barely affect the game or cosmetic items that are useless.
BIgfastcal That may be the case, but look at when those systems were implemented in MGSV, yes there were Motherbase Coins you could purchase day one I believe, but it wasn't even affecting gameplay the slightest. Survive takes the word microtransaction by the scruff of the neck at knife point and tries to get away with as much as possible. Survive is probably what Konami originally invisioned MGSV to be, and since Kojimas departure, they've monetized the game for speeding up development of in-game items with coins and have given the option of "insurance" for FOB's. Konami doesn't care.
Ive played the game 50+ hours and have never felt pressured in the slightest to buy any sort of micro transaction. They're totally optional and only help you progress slightly faster in an already stupid fast progression system.
As a Konami fan since the late 80's, this pains me. In the 90's, Konami and Capcom ruled. I'll stick with Capcom then.

It may sound strange but i play MGSurvive and i really enjoy it alot - taking what was really good from MGSV and putting it in survival genre plays great.

There is alot of solid new mechanic suited for survival game, with a great base from MGSV
Im not gonna convience anyone to like or not like it - people are different and like different things, but Id say if you like survival games - MGSurvive is great title
As for microtransactions - only thing you can buy is boosters - which is pretty common everywere around, so im quite suprised why people are suprised
As for dreaded "paying for saves" - these are character slots - just to be exact, and dont follow certain headlines like bunch of sheeps - i agree its always a bad move, but i never felt nessecity to create another character since you can freely swap classes/gear on one you have. And - just to be fair - many other games have paid character slots
They turned one of the greatest franchises into a below average generic zombie survival game.

I've been a Metal Gear fan for years and loved MGS5. I was not looking forward to this game, the beta was confusing and I didn't like it. Then somebody told me about the single player campaign and that the game had a very addictive and rewarding loop. Decided to try it out and take it for what it is, and I haven't been this captivated by a game since Bloodborne probably. The game honestly deserves a chance. While the criticisms of it 'not being Metal Gear' and the microtransactions added by Pachinkonami are of course valid, I feel these reviewers just saw the possibility of TH-cam money rolling in by ripping this game a new one as soon as it came out. I didn't expect it to be good either but it's pretty obvious they didn't even give it a chance. The FOX engine and its performance are still marvelous, it just plays so well and the game really nails the survival part for me. It honestly deserves a chance, it's brilliant at what it is, and this is coming from someone who expected never to pick up the game.

The continued distancing and disrespecting of Kojima does not help that fact either. Konami's behavior means that whatever they release NEEDS to be stellar, and not something that's just phoning it in with crap design, reused assets, and awful microtransactions.
Hmmm.. as a lover of the series, I'd say it's because it is the same engine, same skin, and basically boils down to being a mod. Confusing asf in the Beta as well. I want to love it, but it's making that tough.
I like the game, just wish there's more content. Maybe bigger map and missions to clear all the fog or wanderer hordes (like days gone) in the world and have secret happy ending in the end. Or building a better base until it became sort of castle or mother base type.
I like how you said "MG:survive was born into a time where Konamis hate was at it's peak" because I can assure you with utmost certainty that this game would have been praised to heaven if they simply wrote "Hideo Kojima" on it. Well, the game would have been also much different if it was actually directed by Kojima so take it or leave it.
as someone that actually played the game for more than 6 hours, something very VERY little people can say that think they can make a full review about this game, especially judging by the playtime on stream-reviews I honestly have to admit: I had a pretty good time, not a 10/10 time but certainly not a I want to hang myself time.
First things first: I wish I could have played it without having to give konami any money, really, I'm all on board with burning those cunts down BUT as a fan of coop games or PvE type of farming games (Warframe, Path of Exile, Payday 2) I wanted to give it a shot ... and of course because I'm a dirty Metal gear fanboy.
For everyone that says "zombies don't belong in the metal gear universe or a metal gear that isn't a stealth game shouldn't exist"; keep in mind that we also live in a timeline where METAL GEAR REVENGANCE and METAL GEAR ACID 1 and 2 exist. I swear to god if they would have released the fucking card game right now instead of survive, that would have been a fucking suicide. Well, turned out those games recieved pretty good feedback so why can't Survive do so too ?
So yeah, I would like to drop a "proper review" but who tf would care about that on 1. a youtube comment and 2. on a video that is already sets the mood for anything regarding Survive.
For a standalone game, all events outside game itself it is close to a 7/10. With a very rough introduction to the game that made 80 % of players hit the refund button faster than the triangle at the tourture scene in Peace walker the game later offers some interesting things to play around with. In mid to late game, you see no one playing this meele type of fence poking because, you figured, it's really fucking boring. So like any PvE coop game, the game later becomes all about tactical controlling the enemys with all the tools you have but ALSO like many PvE games, those things will sometimes end up in "this is the best and most effective strategy, everything else is gimmicky" but for everyone that plays PvE coop game, that shouldn't be something new.
I can see that if you are a pure Story driven player, this sounds more than awful and I can completely feel you with that but also remember that not everyone was so receptive with Revengance suddenly being a Arcade action fighting game for the same reason and I feel that if kojima wouldn't have stepped in to help finish the game it might have ended just like Survive.
Also the writing in survive is dead end horrible, even Matthew Mercers voice couldn't save those garbage dialoges that sound like a fanfiction for some generic ass anime.
I feel like everything else I say from here on doesn't matter that much so yeah, my conclusion: Survives Timeline is very unfortunate because I could see that this game could have had a odd place in this universe but Konami just choked it before it even got to breath. I would welcome Metal gear spin-offs because the world past Metal gear solid 2 has some nasty good potential especially in story but with Survive, Konami showed us that this will never be the case.
I will not bury the Metal gear series with Survive but salute it with the same tear that I shed for the Bosses undeserved death.

I still think about this game a lot to this day with 492 hours in and my opinion changed quite a lot in retrospec (to the positive infact beucase once the smoke settles you realize that wasn't a PR suicide but rather a faint attempt to do metal gear without it's soul (kojima)

This is my honest opinion and I can agree the beta did give some really good hope for it. But really I just think people are mostly mad due to that it has nothing to do with the actual series of metal gear and it's being its own thing, I think its an interesting idea on the take of it it has some standard elements for survival and some different ones that most survival games might not have. Overall I think its a decent game but would be even better if it had no microtransactions.

I hate when people use the word milk when it comes to money and games. Think of it this way: if it didn't have the Metal Gear name on it, they wouldn't cover it because it would just be a nameless, boring game. If it was either a great game or an awful game they'd cover it whether or not it was a Metal Gear game, but in its current state, it's neither. It's just a boring, painfully average zombie game that, if it had not had the name of Metal Gear tacked onto it, wouldn't have been interesting enough for them to make a video on because the video would likely be boring too (there would be almost nothing to talk about). At least that's my interpretation.
I think it means the the game is so mediocre, that the only noteworthy thing about it is that it is a metal gear game. as in, without the name, it isn't worth your time to play or even consider.

Seeing all this happen to a game series that honestly means so much to me is heart breaking. I'm sorry if it seems silly to get emotional over a game but...I hated seeing the MGS franchise go out the way it did. Phantom Pain is good no doubt but...it doesn't feel...true? At least I can say I enjoyed the ride, from the PS1 all the way to the PS4, thanks Kojima for making me have such a great time. Konami? I hope you hurt bad for doing this, a good reputation is worth more then gold, remember that.
