A couple of weeks ago we thought the 542bhp Jaguar F-Type AWD might just have enough power to de-throne the internet's darling Nissan GT-R. It didn't.
We've gone away scratched our heads and decided this time to play a wildcard, with the Juke-R 2.0.
Disatisfied with the 485bhp V6 in the original Juke-R, Nissan has this time used a Nismo engine from the GT-R production line and bolted it in to this 2.0, meaning it now produces the same 591bhp and 485lb ft of torque as the GT-R Nismo. This is your pound for pound fight of the year.
In the right corner, at the helm of the Juke-R 2.0 we have Matt Prior, and in the left corner, none other than Jann Mardenborough, Nissans GT Academy winner.

MP: Hello welcome to Silverstone. This is quite organised isn’t it? This is one of our drag races we do. You might remember a couple of weeks ago we did one between a Jaguar all-wheel-drive F-Type and a Nissan GT-R, and the GT-R won. We thought, well, we should come back when we think we might have something that might beat the GT-R. So we've come back. There's another GT-R here, although it is a GT-R Nismo, so it’s got 600bhp. But to try and beat it, I’ve got a Juke-R 2.0, which is basically another GT-R. Basically, it's got a GT-R engine, GT-R drivetrain in a Juke style body. Driving the Nissan Nismo is former GT academy winner, LMP2 racer, GP3 driver, podium finisher at Le Mans, Jann Mardenborough. The loveliest man in motor racing. Driving the Juke car will be me. Now we’ve both got ballast of a passenger and because they're a little bit worried about the transmission of this 600bhp car, we are doing a sort of rolling start. But anyway I'll get lidded up and we will see which one is faster. MP: Oh, windows gone up over there. It’s getting serious. Right. JM: But off-the-line I had him, and I thought it was fine, and then I looked and he was alongside. JM: Wow that’s much quicker than I, much closer than I thought it would be. TD2: That was bloody closer than I thought. We were, alright, a tad quicker on the start at go. Got a slight jump. We pulled away, I reckon half a car, then he overtook us. MP: I reckon it’s when the aero kicks in. He just starts to come back. MP: Second run then and I’m one-nil down already, but I’m not going to let Mardenborough’s mind games get the better of me. MP: The Juke-R is off to a better start again. It really does have exceptional traction. And this time it holds it all the way to the end. Stick that in your buttery biscuit base. TD1: Ar mate, once it gets going it really starts reeling it in. I think it’s because it’s short wheelbase, it’s just better initially off the line. TD2: We were rolling a tad quicker and when you went go, yeah defiantly we are way ahead on reaction and we got half a car straight away. We were pulling away a little bit until probably fifth gear and then he really seemed to come back at us. TD1: We were talking fractions anyway. It’s like that. JM: It does lag as well, so you like pull it and nothing happens and he’s gone. So you lose. As soon as he says go, I’m on it. MP: Run three then, and let’s see if we can finally put the GT-R to bed. MP: We’re off to a slightly better start, and I’m maintaining it. This is unusual. Oh no, here he comes now. JM: Did they catch up in the end though? MP: On run three, Mardenborough gets a better start and even the Juke’s superior traction can’t overcome the GT-R Nismo. By the end it pulls out a narrow victory, showing that even a lightly modified GT-R can't beat a GT-R. MP: So there we go. Two-one to the GT-R Nismo in the end. But I will tell you what I think is interesting. I think the engine response on the Juke-R is sharper because he gets away even, when Jann gets a bit of a jump on me. He didn’t jump the start but he got a jump on me on the final run. That comes back at low speed, very quickly. Only above fourth gear when the better aerodynamics of that, CD 0.37 and that’s 0.44, that that really pulls away. It's close but GT-R wins again. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

Juke R got standard GTR AWD, Nismo got re-tuned AWD for more RWD biased and less traction control kicks in. Not a surprising result in a 5kph roll start

Laurynas S. The Juke is slow in corners and probably dose not brake as good as gtr. Audi RS 6 avant would be better.
The reason why the Nismo was slighter slower off the line is because it has slightly larger turbos which spools up slower which is also why it starts going faster at the end. In a rolling start a smaller turbo has faster acceleration but slower top end. A bigger turbo has slower acceleration but faster top end.
I thought they had the same engine and drivetrain..

I didn't know anything about the Juke when my wife settled on buying one. We are in America and she comes from England and so she will only drive manuals, so when on the search for the next car, it has to be a manual. Anyway, our most recent buy for her, she settled on a 2013 Juke NisMo 6 speed manual. I was well shocked at the power it has.

I dont think the Juke has superior traction as they stated. The GTR has a lower C/G with the same drivetrain. It should have better traction. My guess is that the Juke R 2.0 is a tad lighter so it runs up faster, but once aerodynamics matters it gets beat on the top end.
911 Turbo S eats GTRs for lunch at a circuit or a drag race (idle or rolling start)

PinoyShuffle Nismo is meant for track, and the standard GT-R has a much more older platform.
***** 50k is 1/3 the price of the GT-R and 1/4 of the Turbo S, so yeah, it's quite a lot actually. The 911 Turbo S is 33% more expensive than the GT-R Nismo
***** Nope. The base GT-R (Premium) costs 50% what the Turbo S does so you can still have 2 GT-R for that price, and i think they're about as fast on a track.
2nd race proves my point. he was spot on. Car left very close on the go, and won, barely. A 1 second delay is car lengths.
I don't know why but damn the juke is good looking. I mean the gtr is more good looking but in my opinion I like the jukes looks as well. Don't call me blind or anything caus that's just my opinion. So😄😊😊

TONY Um, yeah - about that. You may want to go and read Car Throttle's article which highlights that this time was achieved by a Nismo that was fettled with and not off-the-showroom-floor spec.
DrewsTurbo Hello Drees, I have read that article, not very trusty. For example, The 918 set the time using a non-standard fixed roof with no upholstery and no roof light. It was allegedly fitted for safety reasons and did a lap record. So other brands including Nissan GTR have fitted too, but the engine and engineering are there, along with the achievement, this is what matter. Nissan is also provider of motors for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) LMP2 sport cars, you should see that championship, it's very very exiting.

I love the GT-R, I just bought a 2015 Premium but the saddest thing about this video is that Nissan wouldn't allow either car to use launch control.

I stand corrected, for a part. Standard GTR is 92.000€, and that accelerates as fast as the Nismo. The biggest difference is track tuning.

Kind of funny thinking that a standard 350Z and even a 370Z is slower than that big oafish crossover, but it's interesting to see that the most exotic cars aren't the deal anymore to get a fast and efficient car these days.
Juke wins for me because is has major sleeper status! I'd have it in standard silver, smaller wheels with a diesel badge on the boot ;)

The gear ratio in the upper gears is to long in the juke, make it shorter because of the more on air resistance and it will be faster than the GT-R Nismo.
I think we saw everything worth seeing after the first run .

Afyer 3 launches the ECU puts the car into limp mode so you have wait a while before doing another one.
Plus, rolling launches are a better way of comparing acceleration alone - it eliminates clutch release, ecu delay and reduces tire relevance

I don't think it's a fair race!! Cause the rolling start isn't set at a specific speed so whichever car is going slightly faster then it'll definitely win especially if the GT-R does that!
The test is a bit pointless though guys. It's not a drag car. It's one of the most nimble machines around. Even though the 0-60 time suggests it's a drag car it's more evident that the acceleration is more for supporting the cars corner entry and exit speed. Just 2 pence
If it were my money, I'd buy a Focus ST before I buy the Juke R. If it were someone else's money, I would sell the Juke R so it would be my money.

Engine revs at 4000rpm and serious boost before take off.
Trust me when I tell you that launch mode in GT-R has to be experienced to be believed, no matter how many videos you've seen!
Right... I have a Fiesta ST150 and i was doing 40mph on a 40mph road.. And at the time Nismo wasn't something i knew about but one of these came racing past me sounding like a dam Focus RS. I'd of loved to of captured my facial raction when the Juke RS went past me thinkin it was a normal Juke with an exhaust system LOOOOL!

I think if the Juke were also kept in automatic, it would have turned out differently. It may be that the difference in shift times was the decider.

I really wish they would have Gave the Jukes a real AWD System, Or at least a Manual AWD Option, Because the cars are so Tune-able.. And it really sucks because The CVT's can't handle More that 240/250 WT, and The Front Wheel Manuals just stand still Spinning the wheels Dangerously through every gear, Once you take them over 300/320 WT!! The car is catch 22.. I Own one. I wish someone could find a Kit to turn the AWD CVT's into AWD Manual's that can handle above 400 WT.. But seriously these cars are scary once you get near 275 Wheel, they are all over the road. Coil over's fix that up until 300/320 WT, but above that and you are back all over the place and standing still spinning wheels..

Go to 6:30 he shifts with his fingers in the juke, pretty sure the computer knows when to shift better than you.. and as soon as he shifts, probably too early, the gtr goes ahead.
everyone knows boost pretty much drops off at 6200 rpm. why you reving to 7K for?

Supcharged The car will want to stay stationary while the tyres let go underneath causing wheel spin, light weight allowed the tyres to rotate as well as the cars chassis to move as well, just saying.
***** They really don't go over the specs for the cars well. What is the weight of the Juke? power to weight ratio? Torque to weight ration. If they are similar, then the Juke may have an advantage based on its design....

Well - the real kicker is, that Autocar is not trusting the drivetrain/clutch of the cars! Every the performance car undergoes normal drag-race-tests. But Nissan get's a creeping start, because they had quite some problems with the clutch before. Hahaha- lame... I would take a Porsche!

Malc180s I guess the transmission is also from the GT-R - and really it should definitely be able to do several launches, without anything breaking. I thought we are in the 21st century?!
Dominik MJ Okay the thing is, while the GT-R IS OF COURSE capable of launch control, it is NOT RECOMMENDED to do with your car by Nissan. If you use launch control before the car goes through a rigorous "breaking in" routine that is set by Nissan, you are breaking the cars warranty, and yes, the amount of launch controls used by the car are tracked on its internals, and sometimes is used to evaluate a used GT-R value. It is known to destroy the clutch and transmission on the earlier models because of how brutal it is. I would imagine that it is even worse on the Juke-R, and Nissan didn't want any problems with their what is probably their only lab rat Juke-R.

But this is exactly what I am talking about. Nissan is not recommending to use the launch control, despite the fact, that they are building it in! Other manufacturers have no problem at all, that you are using their cars features.

Do you realize how many bets you could win with that little thing?
The GT-R Nismo is a gigantic rip off compared to the standard GT-R. It's only a fraction faster in a straight line and on a track not that much quicker to justify the additional charge. For the remaining money you could either get a AMS Alpha 10 package for additional straight line performance or tune it for the race track although the GT-R is too heavy to be a real track car in my opinion.
Nice one Nissan, completely piss off all the people who spent a fortune on your GT-R flagship with a "joke" car which turns out to be more desirable than said expensive flagship.
