The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is a hell of a thing. Even beyond its 592-horsepower, supercharged, 5.0-liter V8 engine, the Project 8 is an incredibly rewarding car to drive fast -- playful yet precise, and a delight to toss around.
But I'll be honest: I kind of hate the way it looks. I know the huge, carbon-fiber rear wing is functional, but it just reminds me of something a teenager would slap on the back of a heavily modified Mitsubishi Lancer. Worse yet, the pouncing cat graphics along the side are just plain terrible.
This new Touring version that Jaguar announced Wednesday, however, is much more my style. In the same way that I'd much rather have a Porsche 911 GT3 Touring than the standard, fixed-wing version, this more restrained Project 8 packs all the same punch without so much visual assault. The big rear wing is jettisoned in favor of a small lip spoiler, and the stupid graphics are gone (though Jaguar says they can be added back on, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of this car). Valencia Orange and Velocity Blue body colors carry over from the non-Touring Project 8, but I'd much rather spec mine in the available British Racing Green or Corris Grey.
Inside, Jaguar says, all Project 8 Touring models use a four-seat cabin specification. That might make a difference to European customers, who can option the regular Project 8 with a two-seat setup. Here in the US, however, all of our Project 8 cars already come with back seats, so it doesn't make too much of a difference.
Even so, the Project 8's interior is pretty disappointing. Aside from a pair of excellent front sport seats, the dashboard, door panels and center console have been borrowed wholesale from the standard, pre-face-lift XE. They're not great to look at or touch, and the infotainment tech found in the center stack leaves a lot to be desired.
But it's not like you're buying a Project 8 for its interior refinement, anyway. And if this new Touring spec is your jam, you'd better act fast -- Jaguar is only planning to sell 15 of these cars worldwide. That'll make the Touring a superlimited version of an already rare car, and it definitely won't be cheap, either. After all, the standard Project 8 costs just shy of $200,000, which is a lot to pay for an XE sedan, with or without that big wing.

Conceptually sure. But they were rubbish for the most part. Theres a reason people stopped buying them apart from hardcore HSV fans. The german AMG's/M's/RS were much better with smaller engines producing so much more power
People stopped buying here in oz because GM pulled the pin....no more Holden
@@graemewilson1400 and they pulled the pin because no one was buying. The decrease in demand is what caused that. More people were buying the 6 cylinder due to a combination of price and not giving a crap about a V8 that Holden realised that most people don't want or care about a V8.
The hsv will always be a uniquely Australian interpretation of European muscle. It was a flawed car in many ways but it had a charm.

The fastest car 4 door sedan ever lapped the Nurburgring until now, even the 2021 Porsche Panamera hasn't broken the lap record yet.
Oh I absolutely love the style of this car! If I could afford one, I’d go for the all-out Track Package with the cage in place of the rear seat!
That blue Touring one is gorgeous. What a car! Price point too high, but this can be the beginning for Jaguar, hopefully they can mass produce a car like this in the near future at an M5 price point
For people saying. Why is the wheel on the left. It's actually because most tracks are clockwise. So it actually makes perfect sense

I understand that that V8 would fit in the std car as it was always packaged for the petrol V6, which has the same package space as the V8.

If you really want a Jag, which has 4 doors and the V8,
spend 90k on an XJR 575. Same engine(a little less tuned), more luxury and save 60k.

Both great cars but it’s complete apples and oranges. The xjr575 is a 760/alpina b7/s63 competitor for fast long-distance travel. The closest competitor the Project 8 in actuality is a GT3 RS, and the lap times reflect it. It’s setup for handling and raw performance not as a comfort barge.
Really beautiful, the front end is the favorite of mine. But for the price I'll take 911 gt3

I kind of like the wing. I know it’s a bit in your face, and flashy - but it reminds me of other great cars that had wings like the Ford Escort Cosworth and some of the Mercedes Black Series cars. It’s good there’s the Touring spec now for the wallflowers out there!

With only 300 available I would think they would sell out pretty fast. We may think 150k is a lot, but to the monied class, it is small change. The LHD is a shame, but it is likely a problem with the steering box on the left because the front diff is on the right and something is preventing them being swapped. Merc and Bmw had this problem for decades with 4matic and Xdrive only being available in lhd markets.
I'm just glad that some lucky people will get to drive these cars before they're extinct.
I don't think they will go extinct; they may become very expensive. Check out the Callum Aston Martin Vanquish. You'll see what I mean.
the m4 gts sold nearly for about the same price but had a measling 500hp straight 6 that needed water. This car is so much more interesting. To drive, I'd take it way over a Panamera turbo or AMG GT63s. To own, I wouldn't own any of them
The M4 GTS was a complete fail reviewer's didn't like it at all plus it was far too expensive

Lovely - an option they perhaps should have offered all along. Shame that they didn’t take the opportunity to fit the new XE interior while they were at it. Hey ho, I’m sure that V8 makes up for it!
They would have actually sold some if they offered it in RHD... Just don't get why they didn't. Also there's no XE R or SVR to sort of filter up/down to this.

i would go for the Jag anyday , rare & exclusive , you see Audi's on every street all over the country & they all look much the same , they also depreciate badly due to so many cars available on the used market , the XE is likely to hold its value much better as only 300 will be made.

I think the argument for the Project 8 is still a bit stretched - but you summed it up well: it is a freak car. Some people will love it but it is difficult to recommend it.

I'm guessing they are struggling to sell all 300 of them that they removed the wing, made news about it to remind people this car exist. Shame really, it's more of a 5th car, because I would go for a GT3 Touring at the money.
boy638 your probs right, shame as that engine will soon be phased out and it’s a good looking car, make it cheaper and right hand drive to compete with the RS models and M cars
Unfortunately since the project 8s are so scarce in number, most of them will be collection cars and just sit in a rich person garage collecting dust and driven only 1 or 2 hundred miles per year

And the Jag is like 2.5x more expensive. They did a head to head. Do you know what that is? They drove both and preferred the Alfa. Because it's a better car to drive overall. Never said it was faster than a freaking $185,000+ bespoke automobile. Not to mention the Alfa is absolutely beautiful and the Jag just brutish and slab-sided. You get the Jag.

This Jaguar is about 8 years too late to the party. It should have been around when M, RS, and AMGs were one upping each other with big V8s...With all these emissions restrictions this jaguar seems out of place.
They made 500 and sold 500. It worked just fine.
