    I’ve had mine for over a year… put over 3k miles on it, most of them rally miles. It’s a beast. As quick as anything else on the rally and I can carry all their luggage too. If the real purpose of a car is to transport people and their belongings from point A to point B, nothing does that better than the P8.

      @Jesus fast and curvy and over 600 miles on a weekend with a bunch of other cars. We have 3300 miles on it and I’m about to have to replace the Cup2 tires.. we reviewed it on our channel about a year ago.

      @Jesus Rally as in a "bike rally" I think. Basically an organised excuse to drive around a bunch and get together for a beer and a chat after.

      @@DanLMH fair enough… but this year I put 1k on the XKR-S GT, 7k on the new R8V10, 5k on the 911 4S, 10k on the SQ5, 20k on the new Denali. Ohhh 200 on the Etype but that doesn’t count because it is never running. Lol… why save them for the next guy!

    I’m a huge fan of the ajv8. Sold my f-type r and ordered a new f-pace svr for new dad duties. The reason it’s lhd is because of where jag mount the front diff. Yes the 6 and 8 short blocks are same size, that was a fun debate on the jag forums many moons ago, but you cannot buy a rhd v6 awd either. I only wish jag had waited for the xe facelift before doing this special edition, then I’d be buying one out of EU. The recent facelifts of xe and xf, but especially f-pace, catapult this brand into a different league now and a true, and in some ways better, rival to the ubiquitous Germans. Also you actually want a torque converter auto in a positive displacement supercharged engine due to how the engine makes power off idle, dct’s by design are more laggy off the line and best suited to NA or turbo engines

      As someone who is (potentially) looking at a used XE S (with the V6) I've noticed there is one with awd currently on autotrader. Are you saying that is a listing mistake by the dealer? I did wonder, as I've been browsing for a while and never noticed any others with awd!

      How is the f-pace SVR like? I've got an RSQ3 right now but was looking at it as a potential replacement in a year of twos time. There's also the macan GTS which looks interesting.

    Thank you for this review! I agree with almost what you said. I am not a JAG man In general, but I do own a project eight that I bought in July 2021. In fact, I bought the last brand-new, previously untitled Project 8 in the United States that were still in a dealers showroom. Overall, the car is amazing. What makes an amazing is driving dynamics, suspension set up the amazing exterior styling. As far as your initial question regarding how it compares to a GT3, I guess it depends on which specifications and generation of GT3 you are talking about. To me, it is definitely better than the 991.1 GT3. It is not as good as the 991.2 GT3RS what is it is definitely a lot more special as far as the rarity of the car. I own a 991.2 GT3 touring and I believe there’s a two cars of probably on par overall and, the Jaguars definitely a lot more stable at higher speeds because my Porsche does not have a wing.. On track, I can tell you that last fall, we took my jaguar in by GT4 PDK car to ROEBLING Rd., Raceway in Georgia and every single one of us was faster in the Jaguar than the GT4 on Michelin CUP2 tires. finally, I recently became a proud owner of a brand new M5CS. BMW is clearly faster, especially at higher speeds. However, due to its smaller size, more aggressive and more meaty tire sizes in the back and a more track suspension set up, jaguar definitely feels more nimble and more special. Jaguar is definitely the best sedan I’ve ever owned and in my little collection, it falls behind only the magnificent 997.2 GT3RS, the Scuderia, and the STO. I would rate just above the 991.2 GT3 TOURING and my Heritage GT350R.

    The LHD Problem isnt really a problem. I have driven my LHD BMW for 6 years in the UK. After a while you can even use it to your advantage. The Meridian is amazing in the P8. It is bespoke to the P8, much better than in the Fpace SVR for instance. These are the two points I have to disagree but the rest of this video is great! Well done! Love my P8 and enjoy it every time i drive. Not many cars around that make you smile as much as this one

    I am the guy that invited David out in my 7 & 8, which then made him empty his car fund. I can’t understand why people get so hung up about sitting on left, I soon adjust my driving style to suit and just get on with it, if I could use it as my daily drive I would, but it’s not so good on a biulding site with the carbon bits. I have taken my 8 on to the track and it certainly holds its own and in the hands of a professional driver it’s something to behold. But having spent the weekend getting the car ready to drive off to Italy, I know I will get a really smug feeling when I exit the shuttle and the signs say remember to drive on the left!

    • @colin5577
      @colin5577 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. Lived in Germany for 8 years and now much prefer driving from the left hand seat. If you fly, this is the PIC seat as well, so the right hand seat really is the second best spot. MY problem with the 8 and 9 is that they’re automatics - sitting on the left doesn’t bother me at all. In the 8’s case, for that engine, chassis and those looks, I could probably maybe possibly in a weak moment even accept the gearbox.

    Top stuff again James. I agree with you, had Jaguar been bold enough and sunk the money into making a RHD version, they would have sold double what they did without much worry. I've always been gobsmacked my Harry M's lovely purple example, and I so fervently wish more examples of this jaw dropping, horizon assaulting machine had made it to market. One of those genuinely seminal moments in Jaguar's production life.

  • @R04drunner1

    Stunning car.
    You are right, as a qualified IAM Roadsmart Masters with Distinction, I would position the car using SVS priority:
    1) Safety
    2) Visibility
    3) Stability
    So, basically, on an open left hand bend with no traffic behind, I would be towards the right hand side of the road. But on a blind left hand bend, I would be just left of the centre line.
    Driving a left hand drive car in the UK would definitely be a positioning challenge. On the other hand, it would make it a doddle to do a visual check down the nearside of the car in front. Always handy when looking for an overtake immediately after the aforementioned left hand bend! 😁

    Thanks for a great review, there is not much good video about on the Project 8 and it has obviously attracted quite a few owners! I bought mine earlier in the year and I love it. It replaced a Giulia Qadrifoglio and it is a much better developed car. Day one with the Giulia and I was already writing a list of things that needed improving (exhaust, crap Pirelli track tyres, fix the brake feel problem etc.) My list for the Project 8 is precisely zero. Because it is not turbocharged the engine has a level of get up and go at any speed that the Ferrari derived engine in the Giulia simply can't match. It also handles better and gives you a greater level of confidence on road because of the 4WD and bespoke suspension. Most cars have now done somewhere around 2,000 to 4,000 miles at the moment and are selling at auction for around £100K or £115-£120K through a dealer. Future values? Just remember Jaguar built 75 D Types in total in the 1950s and had a hard time selling all of them! The Project 8 is truly one of the last great V8s and I plan to keep mine for a long time.

    Yes. The V6 may be a 90º but don't forget that the V8 is about a third longer and has been shoehorned as far back in the body as possible. That can quite clearly make RHD production too difficult to be worthwhile. There is a long list of cars that never had RHD/LHD versions, like the MG MGB GT V8, or that came much later when sales were guaranteed, like the Audi Quattro.

    Off the back of you mentioning it. For advanced driving educational information from an ex-police trainer, I'd recommend Reg Local here on TH-cam. IAM and RoSPA courses are available for official more personalised training for those in the UK, and passing gains the official recognition from some insurance companies that you drive to a higher standard and therefore safer than most drivers (cheaper insurance).

    I agree Jay I wouldn’t buy one because it’s left hand drive. It comes across to me as complacency and I don’t want anything about my car to be complacent from the manufacturer. Gives me that same vibes as when VAG cars have other VAG group logos on them. Or the supra with bmw everything.

  • @jonfrank2566
    @jonfrank2566 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I think there were 2 other reasons it didn't sell. There was never an M3/RS4/C63 version of the XE so this car represented a huge leap over the standard car which a lot of people found difficult to get their heads around. Would you buy a £150k version of a Vauxhall Insignia no matter how good it was ? And the decals were awful. I know they were a no cost delete option, but gave the whole project a Max Power whiff about it.... Not sure it would sell even now. Certainly current second hand values are nothing special. When a car is perceived as "failing" it takes a long time for market sentiment to change usually. Look how long it took for XJ220 values to rise.....

    • @tavirosu25
      @tavirosu25 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also you could have gotten an XF-R (same V8 with 50-70hp less) in a bigger sedan for half the price than this. And LHD/RHD version and w/e options you want. So basicly only a Jag die hard fan would have ever purchased this and with no RHD...almost no british one wanted it.

  • @geraint8989
    @geraint8989 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the point is that people who have a Harry-sized collection of cars can enjoy each one because each car need only meet a narrow scope of needs. In that scenario, drive the P8 only when LHD isn’t a problem. Simples.
    But the contradiction here is that those 4 comfy seats and a boot WOULD have invited those people who are willing to spend £150k on something monstrous, as perhaps 1 of their 3 cars, but only if it is a potential daily. And LHD is not a daily for most people.

    I don't really understand why they keep saying they had such a hard time fitting the V8 in this car when their V6 is already pretty much the same dimensions as the V8, it's just missing all the internals for the two extra cylinders.
    Seems to me like they just wanted an excuse to make a highly modified sports car and went a little crazy with it, but as a result the finished product is so expensive that it's commercially pointless. A rather Italian thing to do ironically. Maybe they went down the limited production bedroom poster car route instead of a less modified M3 rival because they were afraid they couldn't compete with the Germans head to head?
    Shame really because I would have rather liked a V8 XE, a supercharged V8 would be a more interesting alternative to an M3, or even a C63 now that AMG has gone turbo. But for this kind of money no thank you, even a Giulia is fantastic value for money by comparison.

    To the question: "If this car would have the steer on the right side, I might buy it, but I won't. But maybe I'm wrong", the answer is "Yes, you're wrong". I drive a Suzuki Cappuccino here in the Netherlands, with the steer on the "wrong" side. But it doesn't matter. The trick Í've learned to get it close to the right side of the road is to focus on the slot between the bonnet and the right panel and let it sync with the road's sideline.
