honestly, i barely read mangas. i never found it that much interesting, but the way you explain with the edting and all makes it so much more interesting and i find it much more enjoyable watching this way
I'd say the one thing the manga did superior to the anime was Cabba vs. Vegeta in their base forms. Cabba was putting on quite a good show here before their hair changed color! The anime reasoning for Goku quitting against Hit as a way to stick it to the gods for being pawns in their petty game felt far more refreshing (along with that Goku told Beerus that even if he hadn't stepped out of the ring; his body was on the verge of giving out due to Kaio-Ken Blue) than him simply doing it just to see Monaka fight. Yeah, it still seems like a Goku thing to do. However, I think the anime wins out. Kaio-Ken Blue Times 10 was THE defining moment that brought fans into Super. After two arcs retelling the films, it was finally time to show fans that Super was NOT to be slept on!
I agree, Goku fight with Hit was much better in anime and he had much better reason to surrender. I also don't like that Piccolo speech "I'm not Namekian, I'm reincarnation of demon king Piccolo". In DBZ he learned that he is not demon but Namekian and accepted that fact. So why would he forget about this and call himself a demon again in tournament? Didn't make any sense.

Damn I missed the premiere but so glad you finally covered this arc, I like this version better because of the use of SSG against Hit whereas the anime just forgot about SSG until ToP and SSG is my favorite Super form along with UI Omen. And I love how they actually explained why Vegeta lost to Hit outside of Goku being better
I personally prefer the manga events for this arc, although I just wished it was less rushed and that it had some of the anime exclusive moments in it (like Frost's fake benefactor facade, Magetta's extended fight, Monaka's extra scenes, the "pawns" narrative or Champa's comical arrival at the start). I also wouldn't mind if they somehow incorporated those filler episodes with the baseball match (finding a way to also have Frost and Hit somehow) and Beerus in the Monaka costume, but these omissions I understand.
I had just got into Dragonball recently and as of a few minutes ago the creator of dragon ball, Toriyama has passed :(, I hope he will rest in peace knowing he has changed so many lives, Thank you so much
Vegeta character development in terms of Goku is none existing, the only thing he cares about is being stronger than Goku, even during the moro arc, Namek literally disappears but one of Vegeta's biggest worries is to surpasse Goku. The ending of the Buu saga meant nothing
It's good that you can find a balance between the two. The anime for me in this arc was undoubtably more hype, but as you said, I do like some aspects of the manga as well. Most people shut down after they don't see SSBKK. LOL
